HISTORY OF THE INSTITUTION

As a step towards enabling more girls to obtain the benefits of higher education, Government Degree College for Women (GDCW) has the distinction of being the first College for Women in Medak District, one of the backward districts in Andhra Pradesh. It is Established in 1981. It was sanctioned by the former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi who contested from Medak parliamentary constituency in 1980. The college had its modest beginning in then existing sheds of the Basic Training Centre with 6 students, and 2 UG courses of study.

NAAC Accreditation:In recognition of its academic quality and excellence, the National Assessment

and Accreditation Council (NAAC), an autonomous institution of the University Grants Commission (UGC) has accredited the College with B grade in March, 2008.

To start two UG Programs B.Sc (MPC ) & B.Sc (BZC).

To organize seminars, workshops and skills oriented programs.

To continue to celebrate important national and international days.

To provide scope for field exposure.

It is planned to pursue for the regular teaching staff for BA Urdu Medium

To create excellent ambience for teaching and learning, to provide all round

development and to empower women.

To instill and develop discipline character and human values.

The College designed and executed activities that are planned for the accomplishment of the vision and mission. The academic work is well planned and well executed. Community and National Development programs are arranged by organizing awareness programs, Rallies and Clean and Green programs.Under Women Empowerment Committee

An awareness program on Anti-Trafficking was organized in collaboration with Prajwala an NGO Association on 26-11-2009.

On 07-03-2010 commerce students visited ALEAP and interacted with Smt.Purandeswari, Hon’ble Minister of state for Higher Education on the eve of International Women’s Day Centenary Celebrations.

On 08-03-2010 International Women’s day was celebrated. On this occasion Smt.Geerwani, Sr.Scientist, FRS enlightened the students regarding various problems faced by women in the society.

All the staff members were given opportunity to use computers with internet facilities which are made available in the Computer lab and JKC lab.

Members of alumni visited the college interacted with the students and shared their experiences

Being the first generation students no active participation of parents is expected. But counseling to parents was under taken at the time of admission.

36. Activities of the Guidance and counseling Cell

The college has set up a Career Guidance Cell and JKC, which will organize career guidance, awareness programs, workshops and personality development programs.

Each faculty member will act as a councilor to a class allotted to them, they are responsible to monitor the academic growth. Personal counseling is provided to the students.

The college has a Jawahar Knowledge Centre unit which provides placement services to students. Students are encouraged to attend job drives.

Necessary guidance and help is provided by the Department of Commerce in maintaining the accounts and IT related transactions.

Celebrating Communication Skills Day every year to give opportunity to students to enact communicative activities like Just a minute presentations, group discussions, debates, telling jokes, telephone conversations, tongue twisters etc

-Under DRC Faculty Exchange program guest lecturers are arranged in the college in science subjects and our faculty members delivered lectures at other institutions.

Dr.Ch.Nagamani, Lecturer in English delivered a lecture on soft skills at GDC, Sadashivpet.

Smt.A.Veera Papamamba, Lect. In Commerce delivered a lecture on capital gains at GDC, Sadashivpet.

Workshop on career guidance was organized in which MSME, Hyderabad Coordinator, Sri.Kiran Kumar was the resource person.
