The Aim
The aim of the Scout Association of Australia is to encourage the physical, intellectual, emotional, social and spiritual development of young people so that they may take a constructive place in society as responsible citizens, and as members of their local, national and international communities.

The Principles
The Principles of Scouting as identified by the founder, Lord Baden-Powell, are that Scouts should serve God, act in consideration of the needs of others, and develop and use their abilities to the betterment of themselves, their families, and the community in which they live.

The Principles
The three Principles are represented by a code of conduct which characterises all members of the Movement, and are referred to as “Duty to God”, “Duty to Others” and “Duty to Self”.

• a conviction in the existence of God
• an active spiritual relationship
• developed (and continually developing) ways of doing their duty to their God

Religious ObligationThe privilege of Adult Leadership carries with it
an obligation to -• encourage spiritual growth of Scouts so they
may gain a deeper understanding of their duty to God as they progress through the Movement
• encourage regular use of carefully selected prayers for everyday Scouting occasions
• encourage (if a sponsored group) the members to attend religious instruction and observances as the sponsoring authority considers desirable

The Mission of Scouting is to contribute to the education of young people, through a value system based on the Scout Promise and Law, to help build a better world where people are self-fulfilled as individuals and play a constructive role in society.
