Task Descriptions:
Students interning in the CFC supported schools will be working on two projects:
The first project will focus on designing and implementing an Information andCommunication Technology program (ICT) by involving resources available
within the schools (computers that are already in place) and from within the
community (e.g., undergraduate students with IT major to help teach and manage
ICT program at the schools). This program allows students the opportunity todevelop and carry out real educational experiment in the field.
The second project will focus on Teaching English as a Second Language andwill involve organizing and running workshops for English language teachers in
CFC and surrounding schools, developing training materials, or otherresponsibilities as agreed by Lehigh University faculty and CFC staff.
For students interning at the RUPP, the intended experience is (1) to contribute theirskills and knowledge in the education field (preferably comparative and international
education) through teaching and (2) to learn from local faculty with respects to content
and issues in higher education development in Cambodia. These two programscomplement each other to the greatest extent as one is aimed specifically for K-12
education and the other is for higher education, covering from the lowest to the highest
education levels in the Cambodian society.
For students interning at Documentation Center of Cambodia, the goal is to provide
students with another form of understanding of international educationgenocide and
human rights education in a war torn country. This center will provide students withcontextual specific knowledge in the Cambodian society with respect to the history and
its lasting effect on current generation of Cambodians whose main challenges are
restoring and improving human capital in the country. The intern students will work on asmall research project aiming to investigate the effects of formal genocide education (that
Cambodian high school students receive in school) and informal education (that they
receive from their parents at home via storytelling) on their academic aspirations and
achievement. In other words, the interns will examine how Cambodian students schoolperformance and aspirations are affected by their understanding of the history of
genocide received from both of these informal and formal sources of education. Students
will also engage in archival work to support the daily activities of the Documentation
Center.

Teaching Practicum and Cultural Immersion Program in China(Funded by The Freeman Foundation)
Seeking candidates for a 6-week (May 5 - June 15)program that provides students with an international immers
experience in which they will gain practical TESOL teaching experience abroad while being immersed in the Chine
language and culture. APPLY DIRECTLY THROUGH THE ESL DEPARTMENT!
Program Objectives:
Provide a teaching practicum experience specifically tailored to upper-class undergraduates with an interest teaching English as a Foreign Language (EFL) abroad or English as a Second Language (ESL) in the K-12 o
higher education setting within the US after graduation.
Allow students to apply the teaching methods and principles that they learn in ENGL 310 (Methods ofTeaching ESL/EFL) within an actual EFL classroom in collaboration with experienced cooperating Chinese
TESOL teachers in order to better understand the challenges and teaching approaches of the EFL language
classroom. Allow students to gain a profound understanding of a different culture and language and allow them to deve

) program where students will be gaining
experience with program development and evaluation, research and teaching.
Program Objectives: The goal of this project is to augment the classroom education currently available to students inenvironmental science or environmental studies with practical on-the-ground experience in sustainable development
projects. Students will hold internships with Costa Rican development and conservation NGOs that conduct projects
related to the protection of the natural environment. The sustainability of that environment is crucial to the ecotourism
strategy of sustainable development for which Costa Rica is well known .
Student Experience:
Interns will begin the program on the Lehigh
campus by participating in a series of modular bootcamp courses that will be conducted during the
preceding spring semester.
After arriving in Costa Rica, students will
spend approximately 5 weeks in internships with
NGOs focused on various aspects of forest
conservation related to sustainable development. The
specific internship(s) will be selected for each student
according to their particular interests and their Spanish
language proficiency (some will require a high level
of fluency while others may not). While the mission
statements are slightly different for each of our hostNGOs, all students will be involved in some aspect of
reforestation, which is critical to preserving
biodiversity in this region. They will also be involved
in ecological research to evaluate the extent of
existing forest fragmentation as well as evaluating the
success of past reforestation efforts. The last 2 weeks
of the internship program will be conducted at the
University of Georgias Costa Rica campus in San
Luis. In this element of the program, students will
work collectively and specifically on the study andestablishment of the Pjaro Campana Biological
Corridor (this experience overlaps with a 12-day
Environmental Community Service Project being
conducted by another population of Lehigh students).
