International Day
May 2010
While waiting for our professional photo, we took a quick one of us.
After the flag ceremony, we went straight to the FAT for our Grade 1 musical performance.
We were super eager to get on the stage and shine!
We sang a song from Chile and it was called “Pavo, Pavo!” which means “Turkey, Turkey!” We learned spanish for this song.
It was a really busy day. After our performance, we went up to the library to learn research skills with our librarian Ms. Pierce.
We used an index card to help us find a book about the country we were researching.
We split into groups depending on what we were researching. First we had to find our book. When we found our book, we showed Ms. Shortridge.
We were researching the Philippines.
We were researching the United Kingdom!
Ms. Pierce and Ms. Shortridge helped us if we couldn’t find a book for our country.
We wanted to choose books that we could understand and that had many facts that we could share also things we
didn’t know!
We wrote things about our country. I wrote
that Korea is popular because Korea is nice!
Australia is not such a polluted country. It is also a continent. There is a huge orange rock there (Ayers
Rock).
I found out it was an island.
I learned that the Northern lights
come from space.
I found out that people who live in England
like fish n’ chips.
I learned that Iceland has
very little people who
live there and they sell lots
of apples.
In the Philippines, homes are
sometimes made of bamboo.
Bettina, Eloise, Asha and Azfil made a map of what they thought the world looked like.
This is what Johanna, Gaby, Tony and Sam thought the world looked like. We tried to figure out where to put each piece and how they fit together.
We said that the biggest continent was Asia.
Grace, Aditya, Sirpi and YeWon thought the world looked like this.
The world has 7 continents which are: Asia, Australia, Europe, Africa, South America, North America and Antartica.
Philip, Myne and Marin thought the world looked like this. Who do you think is right?
When we had lunch, we tried food from all over the world. We really enjoyed the Anzac biscuits, sushi and seaweed, the PBJ sandwiches, and the scones! It was a lunch full of YUM YUM foods!
