1. Objectives
To determine the compensation fit for the graduates who are inducted in the organization after the
completion of the Integrated B. Tech MBA course.
2. MBA Course and Career Opportunities
Different business schools all through the world offer the MBA course. Aspirants can study the
program taking specializations of their preference. The different specializations in MBA course are
Marketing, Human Resource, Finance, Operations and Systems. A Bachelors’ degree is the pre-
requisite criterion to study the post graduation course in Business administration. In addition, they
have clear MBA entrance tests for getting admission for the course in well-reputed business schools.
Some of the entrance tests conducted for the purpose encompasses CAT, XAT and MAT. Aspirants
can pursue the program on a regular basis or as part time. However, they should study the MBA
course from an acknowledged institute for getting good employments. After completing the course,
they can search out for employments in Service industries, manufacturing companies, IT industries or
in banking sector. They can also expect jobs in multi-national conglomerations.
3. Integrated MBA
The Chairman of All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) Dr. SS Mantha has announced
that Indian colleges will be allowed to offer dual degree and integrated course in management and
engineering from the academic year 2012-13 onwards. The educationists have been waiting for such a
forward looking step from AICTE. Such programs are very common in United States of America and
United Kingdom. Many reputed American Universities such as Stanford University, Yale University,
Duke University, Cornell University, New York University, University of Pennsylvania, etc. offer
dual degree integrated programs particularly in management. Dual degree integrated programs such
as Technology and Management, Nursing and Healthcare Management, Law and Management, etc.

are common in foreign universities. Management education integrated with engineering, architecture
and pharmacy offer immense opportunities for the youth of our country. In fact the integrated dual
degree programs are not new to Indian education system. It is just that the AICTE has now opened it
for scaling up the programs due to the potential they offer.
a. Difference between a Joint Degree and a Dual Degree Programme
Universities offer ‘joint’ degrees, ‘double or dual’ degrees and ‘integrated’ programs. These
terms are often used interchangeably.
A ‘joint’ degree program is an outcome to an ‘integrated’ course of study. An integrated
study program envisages a curriculum that has been jointly designed by two (or more) higher
education institutions (sometimes from different countries) or disciplines and is regulated by a
specific set of guidelines. Students who choose the program undertake defined periods of
study in each institution or discipline in terms of duration and content. At the end of the
courses and after the relevant examinations, the students are awarded a single qualification
jointly signed by the academic authorities of both institutions and/or disciplines. The joint
degree programs usually do not offer exit option to earn a single degree as the program
content is interwoven. An example of this is integrated BBM – LLB degree. There are several
private and Government institutions offering Dual Degree and Integrated MBA programmes
in India and Abroad.
A ‘double or dual’ degree program has two possible outcomes to an ‘integrated’ course of
study. An integrated study program envisages a curriculum that has been jointly designed by
two (or more) higher education disciplines and is regulated by a specific set of guidelines.
Students who choose the program undertake defined periods of study in each discipline in
terms of duration and content. At the end of the courses and after the relevant examinations,
the students are awarded the both the qualifications (double or dual degree) by the institution.
An example of this is a student getting a BBA or B. Tech degree at the undergraduate level
and MBA degree at the postgraduate level by enrolling into dual degree programs. These
Tuesday, May 02, 2023 Page 4 of 43
programs are designed in such a way that a student can exit from the program at a predefined
stage and earn a degree.
b. Distinct features of these programs
i. award of suitable degree at the end of the exit period subject to qualifying in the
examinations
ii. flexibility to return to the institute to pursue the remaining part of the program
during the validity period of registration
iii. no requirement to go through any admission test for promotion from the
undergraduate level to postgraduate level
iv. completing the two qualifications in lesser time than it would take to earn two
degrees separately and
v. a saving on expenses in dual degree program as it costs less for the two
qualifications than it would to learn both degrees separately.
The aim of AICTE in making the latest announcement in starting flexible dual degree and integrated
courses in management is “to make higher education more industry-centric.” This is a step in positive
direction for an educational system which is suffering from inflexibility. The students would find it
interesting, practical and encouraging. The exit options with relevant qualification are what offer
value for the student.
For a country with largest young population with wide economic disparities, these flexibilities offer
opportunities from the weaker sections, both economically and otherwise, to plan and pursue higher
education in a phased manner. Thus the current directions of AICTE promote inclusiveness in higher
education which is the need of the hour.

4. Why Integrated MBA?
In a recent research published by the University of Phoenix Research Institute, USA one of the key
skills required for future is multidisciplinary skills. To address and solve today’s multifaceted
problems we require multidisciplinary solutions. While throughout the 20th century, ever-greater
specialization was encouraged, it is expected that the next century will see multidisciplinary
approaches take center stage. A combination of engineering, architecture or pharmacy along with
management education would create a unique value for the individual which will provide long and
sustained career path and utility for the industry and the society. Even an integrated BBA-MBA
program would produce a more holistic manager as the student would soak in the principles and
practices of management over a long period and thus absorb theoretical knowledge and practices of
the profession with deeper understanding.
The current undergraduate education in engineering and technology, architecture, and pharmacy
primarily aim at imparting knowledge through classroom instructions, training and other modes of
teaching. Normally after completing the course, the student will acquire adequate theoretical and
practical knowledge in his/her branch of study. Further, he/she will be capable of applying the same
for the solution of real life problems and strive to develop/ upgrade it further through
higher/continuing education to reach the frontiers of knowledge in his/her field of specialization.
On the other hand, the 5-year Dual Degree Integrated programs in engineering and technology,
architecture, and pharmacy aim at the consolidation of the undergraduate programs with inputs of
Master’s level specialized courses and six months internship component in the industry in the form of
on-the-job training. Thus the Dual Degree Integrated programs offer higher value and are fast track
programs through which a student can get both B. Tech. and MBA degrees with a specialization in
the chosen function/sector in 5 years instead of 6 years required for the existing 4-year B. Tech and 2-
year MBA programs.

The Dual-Degree Integrated programs in Engineering, Architecture and Pharmacy with MBA lay
emphasis on academic and extra-curricular components designed for the integrated development of
engineering/technical professionals possessing managerial skills, human values and ethics. Almost all
students after graduation start their career in organizations where cooperative efforts and teamwork
are a must for the success in their career progress. Ethics, human values and discipline are of
paramount importance for meaningful cooperation and successful team efforts. The 5-year Dual
Degree Integrated Undergraduate-Master’s Degree programs lay equal emphasis on building the
theoretical foundations among the students along with industry relevant knowledge, skills and
attitudes. Cross-disciplinary exchange of knowledge is essential for industry. In the dual degree
integrated program in engineering and management, the curriculum at the undergraduate level would
be so structured that it offers enough flexibility to the students to tailor their learning process as per
their personal inclinations and the desired career objectives.
a. Integrated MBA: Saves Time
Integrated MBA is a good choice if the course is pursued from a reputed institution. The main
attraction of integrated MBA is that one year can be saved. Saving one year in studies is very
important in the present day world. In the present day world, time is money. Moreover,
joining work after completing the integrated MBA course will help gain one year of additional
experience, which is not possible for someone who completes the graduation and post
graduation through the regular scheme. If it is not an integrated course, the student will need
four years to complete the engineering course and another two years to complete the MBA
programme, thus making it six years to complete the post graduation. One year of additional
experience is crucial, as it will help in achieving a fast growth in career life.
b. Integrated MBA: Students will acquire managerial and technical skills
Another advantage with integrated MBA is that the student will be exposed to both
managerial and technical problems while pursuing the course. This gains increased
significance as most the companies look for students with management skills and technical
skills. So students from engineering background can get into management positions in
Tuesday, May 02, 2023 Page 7 of 43
companies which operate in various engineering fields. The curriculum of the integrated
course is designed in such a way that it covers all the engineering and managements subjects
in depth as covered by any graduates or postgraduates in their normal programmes.
The Dual Degree Integrated program lays emphasis on excellence and encourages the students in the
top talent pool of the country to opt for both Bachelor’s and Master’s education in
engineering/technology and management at one stretch. Such programs aim at emphasizing the
application of the basics fundamental to their discipline towards the solution of specific real world
problems. This will accelerate the capacity building exercise of the country and bridge the gap
between industry requirements and academic institutions.
5. The pros and cons of integrated B. Tech and MBA degree
The integrated course of B. Tech and MBA degree is a five year course. The candidates who are
interested in entering the management field can opt for this course. There are many institutes in India
where the candidate can take up this course.
The candidate can get admission in these courses though entrance exam. The eligibility for these
entrance exams is to pass higher secondary exam in 10 + 2 from any recognized board. There are
large numbers of opportunities for candidates after completing B. Tech. + M.B.A integrated course.
a. Pros of integrated B. Tech and M.B.A. degree
i. The aspirants who opt for MBA after B. Tech degree has to study four year B.
Tech course and then opt for 2 year MBA course. In this way the candidate will get
the degree only after 6 years of study where as a candidate opting for integrated
course has to study only for five years. The numbers of years spent for obtaining
M.B.A. is less in the integrated course.
Tuesday, May 02, 2023 Page 8 of 43
ii. The candidate can obtain the technical knowledge as well as managerial skill
together with this course. The candidate can shine in any industry by possessing
these two skills. This is an advantage in the case of this cross functional integrated
course as compared to integrated courses which are primarily in the same
functionality such as Integrated BBA + MBA or Integrated Law and the like.
iii. The person with dual degree can shine better as they can show both the technical
and managerial skills.
iv. The MBA degree will provides the engineers to work in a more organized way.
The candidates having dual degree will be having the knowledge of using the
management skills and technical knowhow.
v. The candidates who opt for integrated course can get both the degrees B. Tech and
M.B.A after clearing one entrance test. The candidates who study B. Tech first
have to appear for entrance test again to join MBA course.
vi. Dual degree holders are credentialed in two disciplines.
vii. Dual degree holders offer employers a range of management and training skills
and a breadth of domain-specific knowledge that can position them as an attractive
prospect and future leader in their profession.
viii. Dual degree holders have higher visibility in a pool of job candidates.
ix. A dual degree may boost leverage when it comes to negotiating salaries and
promotions as it offers two specialties and two skill sets.
x. A dual degree offers short and long-term career flexibility.
xi. Dual degree programs offer savings in time and expense.
Tuesday, May 02, 2023 Page 9 of 43
b. Cons of integrated B. Tech and M.B.A. degree
i. Some aspirants when appearing for entrance may not be having clear idea about
both the course. The candidates who have an interest in technical field after B.
Tech can opt for M. Tech course. But the candidates who have joined for
integrated course have to study for 5 years and then only they can join for M. Tech
course. This increases the course duration by one year.
ii. Students must have the passion in both disciplines to even consider taking on a
dual degree program.
iii. Dual programs are not always ranked equally for an institution. An MBA program
may be stronger than the second program undertaken, and vice versa.
iv. Internships for dual degree candidates can be difficult.
v. Dual degrees require additional time out of the work force, putting salary increases
and professional advancement on hold.
vi. Employers may not easily allow students to take a break to pursue a degree even if
the institute offers flexibility.
vii. Institutes have to acquire the expertise to place students with dual degrees as they
are used to cater to single degree holders.
6. Dual degree programs in India
India too has witnessed a surge in the number of integrated degree programs at the master’s and
doctoral levels in the recent past, primarily from private educational institutions. Such a change is
significant and noticeable. In a country that has the third largest education sector in the world, in
Tuesday, May 02, 2023 Page 10 of 43
terms of both student numbers and the overall number of institutions, variety in program offerings
and innovation are key for the success in higher education.
Birla Institute of Technology and Science (BITS), Pilani could be termed as the trend setter in the
dual degree integrated programs introducing them way back in 1971 with the objective of providing
maximum flexibility and lateral mobility. This has helped BITS to attract high caliber students into
its portals. For the Universities, dual degree integrated programs offer sustainable revenue
generation, too.
National Law School of India University offers integrated BA-LLB, B.Com-LLB, BBA-LLB
programs which have proved to be successful. In appreciation of these programs, industry employs
graduates of these colleges at attractive pay packages. Other reputed institutions such as Indian
Institute of Science, Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology, IIT-Madras, IIT-Kharagpur,
etc. are offering dual degree integrated programs.
IIM, Indore is the first among IIMs to offer a five-year integrated post-graduate program in
management to impart management skills to students at a very early stage. The program has a very
holistic multi-disciplinary approach toward course content. There are other private universities such
as Lovely Professional University, Amity University, Maharshi Dayanand University and
Kurukshetra University offering integrated BBA-MBA Programs. However there are no rankings
available for them.
The five year integrated B. Tech-MBA course is offered by many of the leading institutes in India.
The course is offered in almost all streams in engineering which includes Civil engineering,
Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electronics engineering, Computer Science and Engineering,
Mechanical engineering and many.
Universities / Institutes such as IIT Kharagpur, IIT Mumbai, NMIMS Deemed University,
University of Lucknow, VIT University Vellore, etc. offer integrated B. Tech-MBA programs.
Allahabad University has already announced its integrated programs. Many other universities are
expected to join the bandwagon.

8. Which course is better?
Each of these courses has their own uses and importance. Both the courses have their own uses and
are meant for two different types of people. Students who have completed their 12th and would like
to go for an MBA directly can go for an Integrated MBA course. Only those students who have
clarity on this need to go for this course else they can go for any other graduation and then think of
an MBA at a later stage. The students can select a course according to their preference and their
future plans.
India has more than 400 million Indians between the ages of six to 24, but only 10.4 million Indians
are enrolled in higher education. On the other hand, the industry has been complaining that the
average graduate is not suitable for employment due to lack of relevant skills and competencies. The
introduction of dual degree integrated management programs may provide an answer to
employability crisis in the graduate education, as management education focuses on skills that are
Tuesday, May 02, 2023 Page 13 of 43
relevant for industry which the engineering, architecture and pharmacy education have not delivered.
Integrated courses could well be the solution to for the talent shortage problems that industry is
facing for a longtime.

10. Factors of Comparison
Tuesday, May 02, 2023 Page 18 of 43
The following factors can be considered while deciding the pay scale of Management Trainees with
the educational background comprising of Integrated B. Tech and MBA benchmarked against those
with the educational background comprising of B. Tech followed by MBA degree:
a. University/School Ranking
The Schools offering Integrated B. Tech MBA programme to intermediates can be classified into
Premier/ Non Premier Institutes. Based on the ranking of the institute the pay should be offered to
the Management Trainee. In case of Management Trainees hired from same level of Institutes but
differing in degree, the Trainee with a separate B. Tech and MBA degree should be paid
marginally higher as compared to the Trainee with an Integrated B. Tech MBA degree.
Going by the placement records of one of the premier institutes of management in India, NMIMS
we see that the average compensation for the Batch of 2012 stood at INR 13.04 lakhs per annum
for students from Core MBA background while for their Integrated B. Tech MBA program the
average salary stood at 6.7 lakhs per annum. In this case the difference between the salaries of the
two students from the two programmes from the same institute is close to 50%. This can be:
Integrated B. Tech MBA programmes attributed to the following factors are relatively new in
India and the trend is picking up
The Integrated B. Tech MBA programme had been launched very recently as compared to the
already established Core MBA programme of NMIMS
The cost of education is lower in case of Integrated BTech MBA programme as compared to
the Core MBA Programme
The time spent in pursuing Integrated B Tech MBA curriculum is 1 Year less than the time
spent in pursuing equivalent separate degrees in B Tech and MBA

c. Location
The location of the Institute is also important which is imparting the dual degree to the
prospective hires. The locations can be graded in tiers according to the city/town in which
they are located. The importance is two folds:
Locations which are in tier2/tier3 cities can increase the cost per hire for the
organization
Moreover locations in cities which do not have many industries can lead to lack of
easy industry exposure to the students.
Thus location indirectly affects the compensation of prospective hires.

d. Admission Criteria/Procedures
Students pursuing traditional B Tech and MBA have to face the highly competitive admission
procedures twice. This calls for an additional investment of time and efforts on their parts.
Moreover the admission procedures to the tier1 institutes are very rigorous and only the very
capable students are able to qualify them.
e. Course Structure
One of the most important aspects of any course is its structure. The course structure should
be analyzed to make sure that it fulfills the needs for the curriculum and at the same time it is
in synchronization with Industry needs as well.
f. Industry Exposure during Summer Internship
The industry exposure during the courses is very crucial for the students overall development
and hands on experience in the industry.
Students pursuing traditional B Tech and MBA courses have exposure to internship broadly
three times:
2 month internship during their B Tech course which has to be completed in the
relevant industry depending on the branch of engineering
6 month internship which is primarily a project (research or otherwise) during the
last year of engineering which is pursued in the relevant industry
2 month internship in the relevant function to provide adequate industry exposure
during the MBA degree
Students pursuing Integrated MBA degree do not have exposure to such comprehensive
internships due to time constraints.
g. Cost of Education
The Cost of Education is an important parameter. Since this parameter decides the Return on
Investment for the students pursuing the course, this also sets the expectations for the students
for the compensation they will receive at the end of the degree.
Tuesday, May 02, 2023 Page 23 of 43
The cost of education is less in the case of Integrated B Tech MBA course as compared to
traditional B Tech and MBA courses. The students save on one year of education costs and at
the same time they also save on crucial year which can be utilized for additional experience
relative to their traditional MBA counterparts
h. Time
The time spent in pursuing the degree is also a relevant factor while deciding the
compensation of the candidate. Candidates who pursue the 5 year integrated B Tech MBA
course have spent one year less in education when compared to candidates who have pursued
traditional 4 year B Tech degree followed by 2 year MBA course. The Integrated MBA
candidates have one additional year at their disposal which can be utilized to earn Industry
experience which becomes really important in today’s competitive age.
Moreover the candidates pursuing Integrated MBA have also appeared for competitive exams
only once unlike the traditional degree candidates, who would have spent a considerable
amount of time and efforts in preparing for the same.
i. Average Experience
While hiring a candidate for a particular position his prior experience should also be
considered. In the case of a candidate who has completed the traditional B Tech and MBA
degree, he would have had the opportunity to have some work experience in the engineering
domain before switching over to the MBA Domain. This experience can also be made the
basis for paying the traditional degree candidate marginally higher as compared to his
integrated degree counterpart. The candidate who has pursued the integrated degree would not
be having any Industry exposure in the engineering domain except for the short stint during
the internship phase.
j. Industry Needs
o Course Structure
Tuesday, May 02, 2023 Page 24 of 43
It is imperative to check whether the course structure is in alignment with the need of
the organization. The analysis of the course structure of the various institutes offering
integrated degree reveals that it is on the same lines as the traditional B Tech and
MBA programmes.
The course structure should also be checked against the job description of the position
in question. For e.g. a sample job description for a management trainee is given in the
Appendix.
Apart from this emphasis should be laid on the following:
On campus activities: whether the college has clubs and committees which
gives the students a chance to be exposed to management problems on campus
itself plus it also provides an opportunity to demonstrate as well as cultivate the
very important qualities of teamwork and leadership.
Live projects: to give the students a hands on experience on industry problems
o Experience
If relevant experience or Industry exposure to the engineering field is required as a pre
requirement to the position of the management trainee then the traditional B Tech
MBA degree candidate should be paid marginally higher as compared to the integrated
degree one as the latter’s industry exposure is limited to the internship period and thus
the person would need additional trainings to become industry and position savvy.

o PPO/PPI Policy
The organization can also go for a trial approach where in the students pursuing
Integrated B Tech MBA degree can be hired as interns and their competency can be
judged during the period. The ones who exhibit suitable level of proficiency can be
given Pre placement offers according to the present grade structure of the organization.

11. Recommendation(s)
The compensation of the candidate can be decided by considering the various factors of comparison
(as discussed above). Weights can be assigned to the various factors of comparison and an
appropriate compensation can be designed.

a. The compensation of Integrated B Tech MBA graduates should primarily be decided on the
basis of the University Ranking/ Reputation and Quality of the institute from which the
individual has pursued the degree. As already discussed, the current compensation of such
individuals is much lower than their corresponding traditional B Tech and MBA counterparts
but this can be primarily attributed to the fact that the trend of Integrated B Tech MBA is new
to the country and as such there is less awareness and the courses are also not completely
evolved.
For instance, if there are two candidates one with Integrated B Tech MBA degree and the
other one with traditional course, the graduates should be compensated according to the
quality of their Institutes.
b. The most important factor is the course structure. It is imperative that the course structure as
well as the pedagogy of the institute should be thoroughly analyzed before hiring the
graduates from any program. Since the Integrated B Tech MBA course is new in India, it will
take some time before the course is evolved enough to reach a suitable level of quality. Hence
if the graduates from Integrated B Tech MBA course stream are hired from the premier
institutes, this will ensure to a certain level that the quality is ascertained.
c. The candidate’s industry exposure (during internship) should be analyzed. If the industry
exposure is at par with the traditional programme’s industry exposure then the candidate can
be compensated at the same level.
d. Admission Criteria of the course should be benchmarked against the admission criteria to the
premier institutes. Since the admission criteria to the premier institutes are very rigorous in
India, these bear a considerable reflection on the candidate’s ability.
e. The compensation of the candidate from integrated courses can also be benchmarked against
the compensation that other organizations have for candidates at the same level.
Tuesday, May 02, 2023 Page 28 of 43
f. Candidates pursuing Integrated Courses from institutes whose location are not very congenial
for obtaining good industry exposure for the student (or) increases the cost per hire for the
organization would be rated low in terms of compensation to the candidate.
g. The candidate can then be benchmarked on a scale of industry needs. First the course structure
can be analyzed based on the basis of standard (traditional) course structure then it can be
analyzed with respect to the job description. The candidate can also be judged on the basis of
average experience in the relevant field required for the position at hand. This can also be
done keeping the internship experience of the candidate at hand.
h. If all the above factors are satisfactory then while deciding compensation the cost of education
and the time spent for pursuing the course should also be taken into account. The
compensation should be directly proportional to both the above mentioned factors (given the
candidate is satisfactory in other aspects)

12. Alternative Recommendation(s)
a. Weighted Average Compensation
After thoroughly analyzing the present compensation level of the institutes that are offering integrated
B Tech and MBA courses, a framework for structuring the salary of the graduates of these institutes
can be drawn.

The following framework can be suggested for computing the salary structure of a new hire:
Figure 1 Salary Structuring Framework
Detailed Explanation
Detailed job profiling of the position at hand should be conducted. After analyzing the
KSA/KRA the skill set can be broadly categorized in to managerial and technical skills
needed
The percentage of technical/managerial skills required can be computed. The percentages can
serve as weights in the computation of final salary structuring for the candidates
Tuesday, May 02, 2023 Page 31 of 43
Salary structuring formula:
Salary structure (x) = W(t) * AS(t) + W(m) * AS(m) +/- BV
Where
X= Average Salary/ Salary’s lower limit/ Salary’s upper limit as the case may be
W(t)= Weight of the technical role
W(m)= Weight of the managerial role
AS(t)= Average Salary for the technical graduates (B Tech) in that particular institute
AS(m)= Average Salary for the managerial graduates (MBA) in that particular institute
BV= Buffer Value which may fluctuate according to the company policies, external factors
such as state of the economy or internal factors such as health of the organization.
b. Compensation based on the Institute of the candidate
Methodology
1. The Business Schools in India can be categorized into eight clusters with Institutes in cluster 1
deemed to be the best institutes in the country. The Clusters and the corresponding list of
institutes are provided in Appendix (b)
Tuesday, May 02, 2023 Page 32 of 43
2. The following framework can be used for computing the relative compensation of the
candidate based on the Institute ranking:
Figure 2: Framework for Compensation
Assumptions for the above methodology:
1. The candidates from Institutes that fall in the same cluster but have pursued different
programs will be compensated differently owing to the fact that Integrated B Tech MBA
programs are relatively a new phenomenon in the country. As such the curriculum and the
Tuesday, May 02, 2023 Page 33 of 43
Program structure of the Integrated B Tech MBA programs are evolving and would take some
time to be completely at par with the traditional programs.
Thus the candidates who have pursued Integrated MBA will be paid x% lower as compared to
the candidates who have pursued traditional MBA (considering that both the candidates fall in
the same cluster)
2. The candidates from different clusters (but who have pursued the same programs) will be
compensated on the basis of the ranking of the clusters. The candidate from one cluster will be
compensated y% lower as compared to the candidate in the immediately preceding cluster.
This is done as the clustering of the institutes has already been done keeping in mind the
quality of the institutes on various parameters.
Estimated Compensation
To estimate the compensation we can use the formula derived below on the basis of the methodology
given above.
Derivation of the formula:
Clusters
Traditional
MBA Integrated B Tech MBA
1 A A(1-x%)
2 A(1-y%) A(1-y%)(1-x%)
3 A(1-y%)^2 A(1-y%)^2(1-x%)^2
n A(1-y%)^(n-1) A(1-y%)^(n-1)(1-x%)^(n-1)
Compensation for Traditional MBA Graduate: A(1-y%)^(n-1)
Compensation for Integrated MBA Graduate: A(1-y%)^(n-1)(1-x%)^(n-1)
where:

A= Compensation of the candidate who has pursued Traditional MBA (B Tech background) from a
Cluster 1 Institute
X= is the percentage number by which the compensation of an Integrated MBA candidate is
decreased in comparison with the traditional MBA candidate falling in the same Cluster
Y= is the percentage by which the compensation of a candidate is decreased in comparison with a
candidate who has pursued a similar program (Integrated/Traditional) in a Cluster just preceding his
Cluster.
N= is the Cluster number

13. Conclusion
Tuesday, May 02, 2023 Page 36 of 43
The Integrated MBA Course is still in its nascent stages in India. The trend is picking up fast as it
provides the requisite skills in a shorter period of time as compared to the traditional B Tech and
MBA degree courses. The compensation of the graduates of the Integrated B Tech MBA course can
be decided based on the factors discussed above while giving adequate weights to the factors. The
most important factors would be the course structure, pedagogy and the industry preparedness of the
candidate. Keeping these in mind the compensation can be designed.
Once the course structure has been adequately evolved, the day is not far away when these Integrated
B Tech MBA programs will completely replace the combination of traditional B Tech MBA
programs.
