Communication on 6 strategic themes (Part 1) (Gas & Renewable Energies)
52
Background
• IGU is the global voice for the gas industry and will enhance the
involvement in external engagements
Action of every committee
• Every committee will support the promotion of the strategy of IGU
• put forward cooperative works of committees on priority strategic themes,
and promote the active cooperation on strategic themes.
Works of the R&D&I committee
• This committee will engage in three strategic themes (Gas and renewable
energies, Gas for transport, and energy Efficiency), and conduct
collaborative works like joint meetings
Example of the actual activity
• The first joint meeting on Gas & Renewable Energies has been held in
Malaysia under the management of Sustainability committee.

Works at the joint meeting
The SG3 of Sustainable committee led the discussion on “Gas &renewable
energy”, and some members from other committees like R&D&I joined it
Scope of the activity
• Potential of renewables and gas as long term option (up to 2050).
• Exploring the complementary role of renewables and gas.
• Technological disruption in renewables and to meet energy demand
Objective of the work
• 2 paged document will be prepared by next February. The document will
be used to propose an important message to other international
organizations like G20, WB, etc.
Homework of the R&D&I committee
• This committee shall provide a report of case study of technologies
(examples of technologies ) related to gas & renewables by November
• This issue will not be conducted through usual SG works, but a Taskforce
team.
