He was the Prime Minister of Assam pre independence, and became the chief minister after the independence. He was conferred with the title of Lokpriya by the then governor of Assam Jayram Das Doulatram. He was also conferred with Bharat Ratna the highest Civilian Award of India in 1999.Question 1+24/-18
