Philippine Airlines has announced plans to launch flights to New Zea-land from 01 Dec, operating four flights a week ex Auckland to Ma-nila, via Cairns. The service will introduce 64,500 seats per year on the Manila route. The move will also make the carrier the only airline to offer a year-round direct service ex New Zealand to Cairns (as Air New Zealand currently operates a seasonal direct service).Auckland Airport general manager aeronautical commercial Norris Cart-er says in 2014 14,240 Kiwis travelled to the Philippines and he expects the new air capacity will raise awareness of the destination and drive more traf-fic. Kiwi travel to the Philippines has ‘been growing impressively’ at 11.6% a year over the past five years, he says.

... CNS OpportunityCarter says the Aussie stopover is good news for Kiwis wanting to travel to Cairns, the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef, as it increases the frequency of flights. Tourism and Events Queensland New Zealand manager Sally Holyer agrees, saying the additional capacity into Cairns is welcomed. She says the region is popular with New Zealanders, with around 39000 Kiwis visiting each year. PR president and chief operating of-ficer Jaime Bautista says the carriers new route will stimulate passenger traffic along three travel streams – Manila and Cairns, Manila and Auck-land, as well as Cairns and Auckland. Plus, he says, the new service will be a ‘convenient link’ for the close to 40,000 Filipinos residing in New Zealand. The flights are subject to regulatory approval and fares will be released soon. See philippineairlines.com

... Fun In The PhilippinesThe Philippine Department of Tour-ism has launched an ‘It’s More Fun in the Philippines’ marketing campaign, hoping to attract more visitors to the destination this year. The initia-tive includes a website which covers its popular destinations, activities, and information such as how to get around, visa policies and more. See itsmorefuninthephilippines.com

NZ Clip Barrels AlongAir New Zealand’s latest inflight safe-ty video Surfing Safari has attracted almost four million online viewers in its first week, says the carrier. The clip has already clocked up close to three million views on YouTube, an additional 570,000 Facebook views, plus almost 200,000 on Chinese site Youku.com Not surprisingly the carrier has called the response ‘ex-tremely positive’. Meanwhile At DLDelta Air Lines’ has joined the fray with a new safety video, featuring a mash-up of some of the Internet’s most-loved memes such as Keyboard Cat, Dramatic Chipmunk, Screaming Goat, Annoying Orange and more. DL’s says the memes and cameos taps into the zeitgeist as the latest way of capturing its customers’ attention for its most important safety presenta-tion. CLICK HERE

China Forwards Up 60%Chinese forward flight bookings to New Zealand for Apr-Sep are up 60% on the same period in 2014,shows GfK Forward Keys data; while it says travel to Australia was flat during the same period. The company is attrib-uting the spike in demand for New Zealand in part to the reality show ‘Papa when shall we travel far’ which recently featured Aotearoa. Chinese travel to the Oceania region grew at 22.2% Apr 2014-Mar 2015, faster than other APAC regions, adds GfK.

More Kiosks For MIAMiami International Airport has con-tracted SITA to add 44 self-service passport control kiosks, bringing the number to 80, to help accelerate the customs and immigration process. MIA was one of the first US airports to automate the arrival process in 2013. The airport says this has reduced the wait time ‘as much as 40% for US citizens’ and can also be used by pas-sengers from Canada or any of the 38 visa waiver countries, including US lawful permanent residents. SITA’s APC kiosks are already in use in MIA’s North and South terminals, and the additional units will be installed in the North, South and Central terminals.

Kiwis have fallen in love with Kimberley Coastal Cruising, and this in turn is driving increased de-mand for land-based travel across the region, says APT. In particular, the destination has become increasingly popular with Kiwis over the past six months, with itineraries ‘selling really well’. APT New Zealand national sales man-ager Anne Waterhouse says a lot of past APT travellers are booking in for its Kimberley cruises, with many people attracted to the fact that it is close to home, there are warm tem-peratures throughout most of the year, and because APT offers a more ‘intimate boutique style of ship’. APT’s Kimberley portfolio gen-eral manager Rob Tandy predicts its Kimberley Coast Cruising 2016 brochure will sell out in a matter of months. “What is interesting to note is that guests are choosing to com-bine their cruises with our popular Kimberley land tours, spending lon-ger in the region in order to explore it in much more depth. In response, we have increased our land inven-tory by 30%. With an impressive waitlist already in place, we are expecting our Kimberley Cruise and

Land combos to be a hot seller for travel agents,” he says.

... 2016 ItinerariesAPT offers Kimberley Coast Cruising aboard two vessels, its own small ship, the MS Caledonian Sky and the Oce-anic Discoverer. Both will operate full charters on the APT program in 2016, cruising the Kimberley coastline be-tween Broome and Darwin. The itin-eraries are fully inclusive and cover all sightseeing, APT’s bespoke ‘Signature Experiences’, park and cruise fees, ex-pert services of an expedition leader and team, an all-day drinks package on the MS Caledonian Sky or drinks with lunch and dinner on-board the Oceanic Discoverer cruise, transfers to and from the ship, meals and more. The lead-in is the 11-day Kimberley Coast Cruise ex Darwin via Selaru Is to Broome on the MS Caledonian Sky. Priced from AUD12795pp s/t, it fea-tures King George River and Falls, Jar Is, Naturalist Is, Montgomery Reef and more. See kimberleywilderness.co.nz

... Secure SalesTo help agents secure early sales for the first time ever, APT is offering a ‘Fly Free’ SuperDeal to the region on all cruise and land tour combina-tions, representing a saving of up to AUD2000 per couple. Cruise-only bookings qualify for a ‘Companion Fly Free’ offer. Availability is limited, T&C’s apply. The offers are valid until 31 Jul or until sold out.

Kimberley Cruise Demand Building

Disney Danube DemandClose to a month after announcing it will sail the Danube river in 2016, Adventures by Disney says bookings have been so popular it has added two new itineraries. The new departures are scheduled for 04 Aug 2016 and 15 Dec 2016. The river cruises are part of a new deal with AmaWaterways and will operate with AmaViola, which has been built with families in mind.

MSC American FocusMSC Cruises plans strengthen its focus on the North American mar-kets by deploying MSC Divina from Miami year-round in 2016. The ship will remain in the USA next summer (Northern Hemisphere) to sail 26 seven-night itineraries from Port-Miami to multiple Caribbean ports. These itineraries can now be com-bined into a 14-night voyage to the Bahamas, the Cayman Islands, Ja-maica, Mexico, Puerto Rico and St. Maarten. MSC Divina will be replaced by her sister ship MSC Fantasia on her Mediterranean itineraries to meet strong demand for the product there as well. She will sail Mediterranean cruises with seven ports in seven days from Genoa. MSC Fantasia’s initially scheduled itineraries in Northern Europe will be made available with the redeployment of MSC Musica in the region. Visit msccruises.com.au for more.

C’mon Y’all Houston Is CallingAir New Zealand celebrated the launch of its Houston fares yesterday by sending the trade a little souvenir from Texas—a cowboy hat. Familiar faces from across the trade were saying ‘giddy up’ to the launch of the competitively-priced NZ fares.1 The NZ team got into the spirit, with a little yeha—from left, NZ’s Karl Bradford, Rafael Sandoval, , Jenni Martin, Adele Barker, Brydie Hill, Antony Price, Rachel Pedder, Trusha Patel, Thomas Gentz, Hylda Bloomfield and Vivian Ye. In front, Sarah Turner and Andrew Forbes- Faulkner. 2 Did someone say cowboy? Flight Centre’s mischievous pair Roann Roberts and Jodie Burnard. 3 House of travel ‘hotties’ Dave Fordyce, Cullam Murchison, Jayne Thornley, Brent Thomas and Ken Freer try out the cowboy look for size. The conclusion—bigger than Texas!

P&O Cruises is revamping its on-board entertainment program to include top deck white parties. From Jun, four new party con-cepts will be rolled out across the fleet. Included will be Bian-co, the P&O White Party, which will feature smoke cannons, a snow finale, white cocktails, live music and white dress code. Along with a DJ, there will also be a selfie wall, complete with selfie sticks of course, so partygoers can capture memories of the night.

As part of the revamped entertain-ment line-up, cocktail nights will take on a new look with Gatsby-themed evenings, plus there will also be a retro Back to School party in the nightclub, afternoon Vegas parties and a new stage show, Off the Charts.
