ISRAEL AND PALESTINEThe War Between Culture & The Conflicts That Follow
WHERE IS ISRAEL AND PALESTINE? Middle East,
bordered by Egypt, Jordan and Syria.
Palestine is known as the Gaza Strip in bottom left corner of Israel.
WHY IS IT MAKING NEWS? In 1948, after the WWII was over, Britain
offered some land in Israel-Palestine to the United Nations for the creation of a Jewish state. The huge problem of this generous offer is that Israel Jews have taken over Palestine and practically pushed them out of their country. They have decided to start building a wall separating the two places. This wall is similar to the Berlin Wall in which it goes right through cites, building, and streets. In the beginning an estimated 750 000 Palestinians were forced into refugee camps. A recent estimate is that four million Palestinians are in refugee camps. This initiated the conflict that now rages between the two regions today, as Israel unjustly puts down Palestine over, and over.
The biggest reason why it got so much news, however, is the involvement of the U.S. and other countries.
The United States offered to help Israel-Palestine fix their problems by playing a role of ‘neutral negotiating’, however they see Palestinians as “leaderless, violent and unresponsive” . Besides the fact that the US is not in favour of Palestine, they consistently supply Israel with military support and weapons. This tips the scales of the conflict even more, giving Israel even more of an upper hand, thus stimulating the rest of the world to shout out about how unfair the conflict is.
WHAT ARE THE ISSUES REGARDING THESE EVENTS?
The major issues center around the brutal conflict that originated from the fight over the land between these two regions.
These issues ripple to the other countries that have taken sides in this civil conflict, such as how the U.S.A. took sides with the Israelis, giving them weaponry, and how the Turkish government sends food supplies to the refugees in the Gaza Strip. These alliances are able to provide a foundation for political tension between the U.S. And Turkey.
The civil rights act is also having the UN looking into the issue of the conflict, because of the treatment and health of the Palestinian people. This attracts the attention of the major world leaders.
WHO ARE THE PLAYERS INVOLVED? Israeli Prime Minister: Benjamin
Netanyahu President of Israel: Shimon Peres,
but holds barely any power Hamas leader: Khaled Mashaal President of Palestine: Mahmoud
Abbas [Abu Mazen] Leader of Fatah Tanzim: Marwan
Barghouti President of U.S.: Baroque
Obama President of Turkey: Abdullah Gül
TIME FRAME FOR THE CONFLICT: 1948-NOW!
The most impactful event of the past that started this conflict was Hitler’s rule of Germany and his extermination of the Jews. Now the Jewish community that has survived his attack seem to be taking their anger out on the Muslim peoples who resided in what they now call their own Jewish state.
