is most commonly used) by doing the following:
1. Study lecture notes on Heat Treatment (covered today, Friday, Jan.
30)
2. Read section 5.11 in the textbook (page 236-245)
3. Watch the following video (click on the link below):
Steel Heat Treatment: Elements of Tempering, Normalizing, and
Annealing
(an old but very informative movie, 14 min)
Answer the following questions:
Q1. What is a TTT or IT diagram for ferrous alloys? How is it
constructed and used?
Q2. What is the difference between tempering, normalizing and
annealing process for steel in terms of
a. Function (or objective: why is it used)
b. How is the treatment performed (temperature range, cooling
environment, etc)
c. Resulting microstructure of the treated steel
