Human Skeletal System The framework of the human body
Slide 2
There are 206 individual bones in the human skeletal system.
The bone structures consist of long bones, short bones, flat bones,
irregular bones, sesamoid bones, and sutural bones. There are 22
bones in the head There are 33 bones in the spine. The thorax
(chest) has 12 pairs of ribs. Structure

1.The skeleton is divided into two portions: 1.Axial skeleton:
the bones of the skull, the vertebral column and the rib cage.
2.Appendicular skeleton: the bones of the upper and lower limps and
the bony girdles.
Slide 4
Skeleton is the framework of the human body that supports and
gives attachment to softer tissues. Skeleton in the skeletal system
helps to protect internal organs and the spinal cord. Larger bones
with red bone marrow help produce blood cells. Bone tissues provide
several minerals, such as Calcium and phosphorus, when needed.
Muscles are incorporated with bones, meaning that when the muscles
move your bones move. Yellow bone marrow is an important chemical
energy reserve. Function
Slide 5
Arthritis is inflammation on one or more joints. A joint is the
point where two bones meet. The cartilage, which protects the
joint, breaks down, causing the bones to rub against each other.
This process is very painful, causes swelling, and stiffness.
Arthritis is a common disease in the skeletal system. There are
hundreds of different types of arthritis. However, osteoarthritis
is the most common one. Arthritis

What can cause Arthritis
Slide 7
Osteoarthritis is caused by tearing on the joints. Aging is
said to be the primary cause for this disease. By age 70, almost
everyone has symptoms. Some graver than others. The main symptoms
are: 1. Stiffness in the joints 2. Pain in the joints
Osteoarthritis
Slide 8
Although osteoarthritis cannot be cured, the symptoms can be
controlled. Treatments for osteoarthritis are: 1. Surgery 2.
Medications 3. Exercise 4. Physical therapy 5. Injections Treatment

2.The skull is most complex part of the axial skeleton. 3.Bones are
dead, but in the body they are alive. 4.Your skeleton helps protect
your internal organs and bone tissues. 5. Your skeleton consists of
200 joints. 6.Your teeth are part of your skeletal system, but they
are not a BONE 7.The femur is the largest bone in your body and
about of your height. 8.The most broken bone is the collar bone.
9.The hyoid bone is the only bone that is not attached to any other
bones. 10.YOUR BONES ARE BEAUTIFUL!!! Fun Facts
