How We Made LogDog’s Traffic Explode By 700% Using Inbound Marketing & SEO
Long title but it’s straight to the point ;)
Once upon a time...A product named Logdog, It was a good product and was flourishing-ish.
Then LogDog was introduced to Ranky by a fellow startup who resided in the same startup hub and then the magic happened.
The Results - We like to start with dessertLike most startups, LogDog wanted an increase in traffic, which is exactly what gets Ranky’s engines running.

The Nitty GrittyWhile most of our actual steps taken remain confidential for our clients to enjoy, here are the main steps we took when approaching LogDog’s organic traffic. (hint: it’s more than just great SEOptimization)
Keyword ResearchThe basic step for every successful SEO challenge is the keyword research. We really focused on long-tail keywords.
Most startups are re-inventing industries and it’s hard to continuously focus on the same generic terms, so we focused on the long-tail keywords that we logically anticipated would drive LogDog more traffic.
We researched the industry, competitors and potential users and came up with a great keyword list. We used tools you can use too, like Ubersuggest for long-tail ideas and BuzzSumo for finding topics that already went viral in their industry.
Keyword Research continued...We were even confident enough to compete with Google on specific keywords. Who would’ve thought we could outrank Google on keywords such as “Gmail hacked” or “My Gmail was hacked?” For a few good months, we were #1 for those terms, with Google’s support forums just below us.

MetadataJust like other startups who never performed any type of SEO before, a lot of the Meta Titles and Descriptions were missing.
We used Webmaster Tools and Screaming Frog to extract pages that needed to be optimized using the Keyword research from step #1.
Internal LinksLink Optimization is usually something that requires an artist, as it is not an exact science. Each niche has its own “je ne sais quoi” when it comes to what it needs to succeed.
Links within the site should not only point to supporting articles off-site but also strong content that is internally linked. We optimized the content within LogDog’s website and blog, adding internal links which helped Google realize which pages are most important and the search terms they are focused on.
Link Profile OptimizationWhile we didn’t go out and “build links” like it’s 2013, we did find some high quality submissions sites that collect the best startups within different industries and got LogDog accepted there.
We made sure these submissions are relevant, have traffic (according to SimilarWeb) and a high domain authority (according to OpenSiteExplorer).
Blog OptimizationA large part of LogDog’s audience comes from their blog. Most clients don’t quite understand the significance that a blog can have on lead building, but a short explanation convinced LogDog to focus their blog on our long-tail keyword strategy.
When they want to write their own non-SEO posts (which is highly welcomed, as we are serious believers of real-company-stuff in a startup’s blog) we continue to tweak the content so it will be optimized and drive in as much organic traffic as possible.
RedditYeah, Reddit! We use Reddit all the time to get more eyeballs on our clients’ content, but in this case, the results went through the roof.
Our tip: be very very careful of Reddit admins. Don’t use Reddit for spamming backlinks back at your website; they’ll make you vanish into thin air. Instead, donate your time and efforts to the community as much as possible in order to gain karma points. You can then try to discuss your own content, but make sure it’s high quality content that benefits the communities.
QuoraWe found and answered the most followed questions that were relevant to Logdog’s expert team. The engagement was mind blowing.
The end of the year is usually the worst when it comes to traffic - but not with logdog
Product HuntMost of the Ranky team consists of veteran Product Hunters who have access to submit the best products they run into. But it’s up to the Product Hunt moderators to decide which products get listed on the homepage.
We helped LogDog get their foot in the door, as since they are indeed an awesome B2C app, they were spotted by one of Product Hunter's admins and were featured on the homepage!
Tooting our own horn here...Ever since Logdog has been with us:
Magic!
- The LogDog app has been download over 400,000 times in the Google Play Store alone.
- LogDog seeded another 3.5 million dollars from VCs.
