Light EvolvesA conceptual project before the time of LED lighting, when CFL lights were trying to get into the market. The concept was to play on the idea of light evolving from its primitive “fire” source into incandescent lights and then into the new CFL bulb.

Williamsburg CandlesA conceptual project for low-budget candles to be made more appealing to customers. Using the majority of each surface to show a pleasant photo symbolizes the candle’s scent and helps reinforce the candle is full of this great smell.

The ISO/OSI model divides the network communications process into 7 layers across network architecture. Layers 7 through 4 relate to end-to-end communications between data source and destinations. Layers 3 through 1 pertain to communications between network devices. Layer Zero, the proposed infrastructure layer for the ISO/OSI Network model, addresses the critical need for superior physical infrastructure support in the data center.

By recognizing the importance of the underlying infrastructure layer and emphasizing best practices in pathway and physical support design, a new level of stability can be created for the network.

Layer Zero solutions encompass the entire physical infrastructure that supports your network, including racks, cabinets and pathways. Additionally, Ortronics® Layer Zero solutions include Mighty Mo® Air Control containment products, designed to bring additional protection and performance benefi ts to the network.

He Might Be GiantThis was a redesign of a multi-page article about Shepard Fairey, the man behind the iconic Andre the Giant campaign and the “Obama - Hope” poster. Shepard has been an inspiration of mine for many years.

GIANT

nce a renegade who slapped up absurdisy, anticonsumerist propaganda in the dark of night, artist Shepard Fairey is now an emisary for the same corporations he once skewered. Shepard Fairey barely breaks stride

as he slaps a sticker on an electrical box. Then another one on a newspaper rack. A street sign. A bus bench. A few people who recognize the 29-year-old Fairey warmly greet and cheer him as though he were a celebrity. But most of the passersby in Silver Lake, a hip but seedy neighborhood that separates Hollywood from downtown Los Angeles, barely pay any attention. It’s only afterward that his small, glossy one- and two- color graphics catch their eye. The most striking has the word “OBEY” in heavy capital letters beside a tightly cropped face with a vacant, but ominous, stare.

The face is a stark, fl at, stylized image rendered in sinewy blobs with the symmetry and fl avor of a Rorschach blot. And in fact, it’s intended to be open to individual, often confl icting, interpretations. It could be taken as an Orwellian threat, an underground cult, or a sneaky sales ploy. Anyone who recognizes the face as that of the late obey giant, a seven-foot-four, 520 pound pro wrestler, might think it has something to do with the recent upsurge in popularity of the World Wrestling Federation. But the actual meaning has been evolving for over a decade, even for its creator.

The picture shown on the left was created by John Fern.

Designing K-12This was an old article which I wrote about the issues with the “No Child Left Behind Act” of 2001. The bill would have crippled the arts departments across the country. That bill has since been replaced in 2015.

Imagine yourself sitting in the middle of a mall. Whether it is a large commercialized mall or a mini strip mall, stop and take the time to think. Is there anything in your sight that was not, in some way, designed? Everything has to be designed before it becomes created. From the simple straw that you sip in your McDonald’s cup to the entire mall and all its levels and stores, it was all designed first. Now imagine a world were no one designed anything or planned anything out because no one knew what to do, and the few that did know were busy designing something else. Hard to believe? With the knew No Child Left Behind Act

Artie ShawA personal identity project of the great band leader and clarinet player Artie Shaw. The oval resembles the spotlight he was in when performing and the black and white colors were reminiscent of the era.

Tiny Leaf BrewingThis was a personal logo project of my own. Since I’ve been homebrewing for years, I thought it may be neccessary to brand the beers I produce. Like my personal design logo, the name of this revolves around my last name.

12.12.12This video was a contest entry for a local event to win a wedding through the town of Geneva, IL. The parameters were tight and did not allow any copywrighted material, logos and even some locations. Thinking creatively, we chose a silent movie theme for the video.
