What’s HELIODISPLAY ?
Heliodisplay is a
technology used for
displaying images
in mid air.
In Heliodisplay, a projector focuses the image onto a layer of mist in mid-air.

Results in a two-dimensional display
that appears to float.
Similar to Conventional Rear Projection
technique.
No physical screen required.
History
Developed by Chad Dyner, CEO of IO2 technologies.
In 2005 US patent office granted Dyner patent for his product (HELIODISPLAY)
Dyner found IO2 technologies to commercialize Heliodisplay.

AIR
Functional Overview
Fine water vapour, suspended in mid
air to create nearly invisible screen.
This vapour curtain(screen) is
sandwiched between layers of clean
air to create an acceptable screen.

The vapour screen is a particle cloud
created by passing the surrounding air
through a heat pump which in turn
cools the air to a level below its dew
point.
These particle cloud consists of
individual micro-droplets, held together
by surface tension.
PRINCIPLE AND WORKING

6
Converts the imaging properties of the airso that the air is taken in, convertedinstantaneously, and then re-ejected out.
Creates a dynamic, non solid particlecloud by ejecting atomized condensatefrom air.
Base Unit :
Projector :
Projector projects the given input on the
newly created invisible screen.
Similar to rear view projector.
Higher quality image delivery output.

Extraction Device : Condensates the air.
Extraction storage : The extracted condensate
is stored in a storage vessel.
Particle cloud
Manufacture : alters the condensate by
mechanical, acoustical,
electrical or chemical
means, or a combination of
these.
Contd…
Particle cloud
delivery device : Ejects the microscopic particle
cloud ( Screen)
EMC system : Controller & sensor together.
adjusts screen density, Velocity,
Temperature, Humidity etc.
optional scan
converter : Converts signals from external
sources to the Processor.

Allows the image to serve as an input/output (I/O)
device .
Physical intrusion within the input detectable space
of particle cloud , such as a user's finger, a stylus or
another foreign object, is recognized as an input
instruction.
Reflected light scattered off the user's finger or other
input means is captured by optical sensor.
HELIOCAST :
Light beyond the frequency response bandwidth of
the sensor is ignored or minimized, for better Noise
immunity.
The space coordinate of intrusion in space where
the intrusion is lit by the functions as a mouse
cursor, analogous to a virtual touch-screen.
controller reads and interprets the highlighted input
data (coordinate) using blob recognition or gesture
recognition software at Processor.

KEY FEATURES
No chemical
additives needed.
Only plain tap water
is necessary.
Darker the ambience
brighter the image.
Do not use
holographic technique.
Contd...
Best visibility within the range.
No special glasses needed.

12
REQUIREMENTS
Voltage Input : 110V/60 Hz, or 220V/50Hz
Output size : 22" to 42"
Data Sources : PC,TV, DVD, HDTV, Video game
Connectors : VGA, RGB & USB
PC Specifications : at least Pentium III 400MHZ
25MB free disk space
Win2000/XP
Advantages
No screen is required to project images
Light weight and can be used/converted
into a furniture
No chemicals are used.
Nothing affects air quality projected.
Two-dimensional, but gives 3D looks.

Contd…
Heliodisplay does not create fog.
It causes no odour in the air.
can be seen up to 70 degrees off aspect
for a total viewing area of over 140
degrees.
No special glasses required to see the
display.
Heliodisplay system can be used in any
country, regardless of voltage
standards.
Translucency is controlled by the
Heliodisplay.

14
Disadvantages
Heliodisplay is very expensive
Viewing a Heliodisplay image in direct
sunlight is almost impossible
Screen is essentially air, so it can
become distorted with too much air
movement in the room.
Applications…
Advertising/promotion
9/16/2012
15
Video conferencing
Virtual surgery &
pre-operative planning
Engineering/architecture plans
Gaming/artwork
9/16/2012
16
E- Learning
Military training programs
Conclusion Heliodisplay has great potential and would
be ideal for collaborative work
Several other thin air-displays are
available but Heliodisplay outclasses
them, because of the attention it draws
and its maintainability, and as a result it
has more market value

17
Heliodisplay is still in the initial stages
and the flaws of cost and environment
of positioning will soon be overcome.
Its various applications such as in
advertising, a board room etc suggests
that its future scope is very bright.
