The Continuing Education and Training Division of Harford Community College is pleased to offer a wide variety of courses to children and their families, including our popular full-day summer programs Discovering College and Kids On Campus. In addition to our exhilarating full-day science programs, we also offer other exciting full-day programs including Art On Parade, Live On Stage, TV Production, Camp Invention®, and Fantasy Biz Camp.

Many wonderful educational opportunities are planned especially for you and your children, from preschool through young adult. Register early to avoid the disappointment of having a course canceled or filled.

General Information: 443-412-2376Course Cancellation PolicyThe College reserves the right to cancel any class when there is insufficient enrollment. If we must cancel a class, you will be notified by mail, telephone, or at the first class meeting.

Refunds and WithdrawalsIf the College cancels a class, 100% of the tuition and fees will be refunded by mail. Allow six weeks from the date of cancellation to receive the refund.

To withdraw from a noncredit class, call or stop by the Continuing Education and Training Office in Edgewood Hall to complete a withdrawal form. The withdrawal becomes effective the day you contact the office. Book returns must be accompanied by a copy of the withdrawal form.

If you withdraw before the first class meeting, the College will refund 100% of the tuition and fees. If you withdraw before the second class meeting, the College will refund 50% of the tuition but no course fees. There will be no refunds after the second class meeting, and no official withdrawal is necessary.

Schedule of ClassesDespite our best efforts, occasionally an error may occur in a course description, tuition, course fee, or other entry in the Schedule of Classes. In the event of a printing error, the College reserves the right to apply the correct information.

The College reserves the right to change or cancel individual courses, programs, schedules, and/or fees.

Visitors PolicyAll persons attending classes must be officially registered for those classes. Any visitors (including children) other than those with bona fide academic, educational, and/or approved business with the College, are not to be in offices, labs, classrooms, break rooms, work areas, or hallways. Children (ages 12 and under) are not to be left unattended at any time, under any circumstances.

In enrolling in Harford Community College, students accept and agree to abide by the policies and regulations of HCC including those in the Student Code of Conduct, the Drug and Alcohol Policy, and the Computer Use Policy. Students should understand that violation of these regulations would subject them to the penalties and sanctions contained in these policies,

How to RegisterOnline: To register online visit www.harford.edu/resource/solar and click on the SOLAR link found at the bottom of the page for complete instructions on how to register and make payment. If you are a new HCC student, you must click on the “Continuing Education Noncredit online application” link in order to complete the online application process before registering. For questions about the online application process, registration, and/or payment, call 443-412-2376.

In Person: Students may register in person Monday through Thursday, 7:30 AM to 7:00 PM, and Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM in Edgewood Hall. Payment by check, money order or credit card (Discover, MasterCard, American Express or VISA) is required at the time of registration. Cash cannot be accepted. For your convenience, a registration form can be found in the back of this booklet. Mail In: Complete a registration form (found in the back of this booklet) and mail with full payment of tuition and fees. Payment may be made by check, money order, or credit card (call 443-412-2376 to provide credit card payment information). Please include your Student ID number on the check or money order. No confirmation is sent. Attend the first session unless the College notifies you that the course has been canceled.

NOTE: Out-of-county residents (except senior adults, disabled retired students, and students receiving a Maryland National Guard member tuition waiver) pay a $5 surcharge per course for each noncredit course that charges tuition. Get Ahead of the Curve - AlgebraFor students enrolled in Algebra in the fall. Review mathematics fundamentals in preparation for Algebra I. Topics include whole number concepts, fractions, decimals and percents, ratios, proportion, and signed numbers. Parents are welcome to stay. There will be assignments to be completed at home. Get ready for fall now!

Ready to ReadIs your child ready and willing to read? Join us for a fun-filled reading adventure for children who already recognize the upper and lower case letters of the alphabet. Reading skills will be taught through song, sight, and phonic recognition. Techniques and ideas will be provided for practice at home. Class size is limited so register early. The instructor has over 35 years teaching experience in the public schools.

Arts/Crafts

Adventures in ArtEnjoy a variety of visual arts activities and meet new artist friends from throughout the county. Drawing, painting, and other art mediums will be explored. A student art show will be held on the last day. Children with no art background are welcome, as are those with art experience. Art supplies provided.

Boat Building

Teen Boat BuildingAssemble your very own double-paddle canoe in one week. Glue, nail, and paint precut parts of your canoe. A small boat water safety class will be conducted during the week. BIG HAIR is coming to HCC! Come and be a part of an original show composed, performed and staged by the students based on the Broadway hit, Hair Spray! Students will create their own characters and sing great 60’s and musical theatre melodies while working to create their own version of the show from scratch. Gain hands-on experience in the art of singing, speaking, character building, stage makeup, and costuming with a final performance tying all aspects together at the end of the week. Our teacher, Jennifer Haney, received her MA in Music History from Webster University in St. Louis. Jennifer was a Rotary International Ambassadorial Scholar to England where she studied music. After singing with the International Opera Festival di Roma and other companies in Europe, Jennifer returned to the U.S. where she has been honored as the recipient of a 2013 Peabody Energy “Leader in Education” award.

Discovering College is a two-week program held on the Harford Community College campus. Classes focus on art, academics, and athletics for students who are entering grades 4 - 8.

Each session meets Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with drop-off and pick-up at Edgewood Hall. Lunch and most supplies are included.

Follow these easy steps to register for Kids on Campus1. Complete the Course Selection. Signs and Symptoms of a ConcussionA concussion is a type of brain injury that changes the way the brain normally works. Even what seems to be a mild bump to the head can be serious.
