Have a safe and Merry
Christmas, may all your
wishes for 2014 come
true — take care
What a wonderful night we are going to have on Friday for our celebrated Christmas break up. The Ladies are serving a traditional Christmas Dinner of Roast Turkey & Pork with Roast Vegeta-bles followed by Plum Pudding & Custard. All for $8. The list has now been removed from the bar. The final number is 110. No late bookings will be taken.. The Christmas Raffle will also be drawn on the night. In addition the BOM are having a one off Christmas Members Draw on the night of $500. This will be drawn anytime between 5.30 & 7.30. Normal rules apply. You must be present to win it.— this is what belonging to a great club is all about.
It’s beginning to feel a lot like Christmas. The festive season is upon us and time seems to centre around shopping malls and indulgence. Alas we are all in the same boat.
Our Pennant season has gone over the 1/2 way mark, with one round left for the year. Over all we have performed most admirably compared to this time last year. One skipper from the 3rd side is so confident where Keilor will be at the end of the season he refers to the thirds as “Nebula” (full of stars). The first side is in 7th place, after getting off to a shaky start, back on the winning list but not moving up the ladder “yet” they can still make it. Our 2nd side is in 3rd position, and breathing down the team in 2nd spot. Our third side has jumped to second spot, after “hot” Lalor was trounced on Saturday. The Forth's who were in a relegation zone a few weeks ago, have de-cided to jump up the ladder. They are looking stronger with a few alterations made by selectors. The Fifth side is third on the ladder, just behind Buckley Park, and keen to overtake. Unfortu-nately our 6th side are struggling hard. They have little to fall back on but we all give them a pat of the back for “holding on”. Over all selectors are delighted at the half way mark of the season.
Our Top Mid Week Pennant Side is in a fabulous position and will be looking forward to playing in the finals. Alas the 2nd side is struggling hard, and will find it hard to leapfrog up the ladder. And the Open side “3” is cruising along on top of the ladder — don’t change a thing.
Off the greens another outstanding effort has been made in the kitchen. The Friday night meals, instigated by Glenda, Kaye and Mick. Also thanks go to Helen, Dianne, Bob and Allen and all the willing helpers who have helped provide meals for functions that benefit our club in many ways.

The much anticipated final of the Keilor Bowls Club Ladies Singles Championship event between Pat Del Re and June McInerney was played in rather cool weather.
June got away to a very good start leading 5 — 0 after two ends, but Pat fought back and actually took the lead 11 — 10.
The game was so close until June really hit her straps and took control, playing some superb draw bowls.
Congratulations to both ladies who bowled extremely well, June got the breaks and took advantage of them.
This game was much closer than the scores indicate 25 –16.
Well done to both girls on reaching the Finals and to June our congratulations for being the Ladies Singles Champion for Season 2013/14.
Thanks also goes to Maureen Sutton on making and Helen Duddington for umpiring her first Final.
Terry O’Brien celebrates a “hard day
at the office” after winning the Men’s
Singles Championship.
The match was played in perfect weather last Thursday, between Terry O’Brien and Neil Ste-phenson. Neil got a perfect start, leading 6-2 after three ends, however Terry fought back to level at 11 all. Neil lifted his game to lead 19-13 but again Terry fought back to tie the score at 23 each. On the last end Terry played his first bowl which normally would be a match winning bowl but not to be out done Neil outdrew Terry but again Terry played an absolute bomb which edged out Neil to hold 2 shots. Neil’s last two bowls just slid past for Terry to take the match 25-23. This was a very high standard game and congratulations must go to both players for put-ting on such terrific game.
The match was marked by Jim Knowles and umpired by Bob Duddington.

A few months ago I joined a project funded by Mazda to present an In-
troduction to Opera. Councils in Melbourne were contacted to provide
a choir of 400 members and luckily Brimbank Council took part in this
project.
Brimbank provided a rehearsal room at the VisyCares Hub in Sunshine
and every Thursday night we practiced. We worked hard with Dr Jona-
thon Welch and his team and after 6 weeks practice and rehearsal, the
members of the Brimbank choir sang at the Myer Music Bowl with prin-
ciple singers from Opera Australia and the Melbourne Symphony Or-
chestra in front of a crowd of thousands — who stayed regardless of the
rain showers.
People told me that they were brought to tears with the song “You’ll
Never Walk Alone” and audience members had their hairs stand on
their necks they were so amazed at the quality of our sound.
Even more amazing is that many of our choir had never sung before,
could not read music and some could not even speak or read English
fluently, yet we sang the great Opera Arias in Latin, Italian, French and
English.
Emma Pryse, Brimbank Council’s cultural officer, should be highly com-
mended for her role in the communications and management of this
project. Each member of the choir had Emma’s full support, she kept
us informed, sent emails detailing our music, organised refreshments
each week, copied music for us, organised transport and even provided
touching gifts such as giving everyone a beautifully handwritten floral
card congratulating us on our opening night.
We certainly had a once in a lifetime experience and created a memory
we will not soon forget!

Norma Hore recently caught up with Santa at The Footscray Market. The jolly old fellow was so keen to show off his bag of goodies, that included chop-sticks, in-cense, 2 minute noodles, chop-chop to-bacco and a variety of dates from Sudan. Just what Norma had anticipated.
Christmas reunion
No strangers to our club are popular couple
Susan and Shane Doyle who popped in and
wished all a Merry Christmas. Pat Black
was thrilled to see them and have a chat.
Gloria Norman posses the question
In a game played to the bell, the jack is rolled out of bounds as the bell rings. What should happen?
Answer The improperly delivered jack should be returned to be re-delivered by the opposing lead.
The end should be completed. Remember the start of play in any
end is the delivery of the jack by the first player to play in that end

Green Fingers, Morry Dunn and Alan Mansfield are doing a wonderful job keeping
our garden surrounds looking so nicely main-
tained.
The “budding” pair are busy each Monday
morning, with their sleeves rolled up, bringing
life and colour to our alluring club. A beer gar-
den would be a icon and a welcome addition
to the club. The boys have a plan.
Friday, 6th of December was a HUGE day of catering at Keilor Bowls Club.
Porter Davis Homes hosted 100 of their subbies and their employees to their Christmas Break Up held at KBC. Preparations were commenced a few days prior with our Social Committee decorating the club rooms for Christ-mas. Helen, Dianne and Pat were cooking two days prior to the event, and Bob and Allan supporting their better halves with odd jobs and tidying up around our Club.
And what a feast of finger food was provided!
There was a great variety with something for all tastes. Of course our bar was very well patronized with Steven Mar-tin, Allan Black and Ray Canny making sure that no-one was thirsty.
In the evening Keilor Downs Secondary College had a number of their staff at our Club for finger food and Twi-light Bowls and the Keilor members who came down for the weekly draw were surprised with finger food “on the house!”
These Fundraisers for our Club could not take place with-out a willing band of volunteers. Our thanks to the fol-lowing ladies for their work on the day - Joy Harmer, Julie Isergin, Margaret Bromley, Sandra Hamilton, Joan Wilson, Norma Hore, Lorraine Henneken, Ivy McLeod and Maureen Sutton.
All these members know how to make an extremely busy day lots of fun.
Our visitors certainly appreciated everyone’s efforts with a number of thanks and compliments expressed.
We were also fortunate to have donations/discounts from Mastercut Butchers, Assembly Drive, Tullamarine — Tay-lors Lakes Bakery and donations from Kayleen also a great long time supporter of our club.
Thank you all.
What a difference 6 months has made. The skeptics
who thought our No.2 green would struggle to come
up to scratch for the Pennant season when it was re-
surfaced in May, have been astonished by how good it
is. The credit must go to our Greens Director Arthur
Baker and Doug Agnew (G. K.). With the welcome
signs painted on the greens they look and play a treat.
Night out at
The Valley Last Friday night 83 people associated with
K.B.C. attended Moonee Valley night races.
Once again Cyd Wilson
lead the charge to the
oysters and prawns.
Dianne Marshall wasn’t
happy with the size of
the plate provided for
sweets and went in
search of a larger bowl .
. . she found one.
The winners were hard to find, however a few
struck it lucky. Joan Wilson had moderate
success compared to last years killing.
Cecile’s sister picked the right one and Marga-
ret Bromley (not known to be a punter) was
sorry she missed investing with Bill Vlahas.
Quote of the night “It doesn’t matter how low
the dollar goes, I will always bend down to
pick it up! “ Guess who?
All this added to the fun of the night — with
my big win at the chocolate machine.
