JAM Our children’s church, entitled JAM (Jesus and Me) takes place immediately following the Children’s Moment on most Sunday mornings and the children are escorted out of the sanctuary to the waiting volunteer parents, all of whom are background checked. The Children’s Moment is listed in the bulletin and it will be noted if the children are going upstairs or staying in worship each Sunday. This ministry takes place on the 3rd floor in Room 304 and the volunteer parents will share a Bible Story with the children and then allow some play time. Parents are requested to pick their children up in Room 304 immediately following the end of our service.

Please keep the following member(s) of our church family in your prayers:

Amy Estey, rehab

Linda Honeyman, chemo

Larry Smallenbarger, home

From Earth To Heaven

Text by Music by

Samuel Francis Smith (1808-1895) Craig Courtney

Of harmless innocence.

The thoughtless tongue, that fills the world with sadness,

Then shall be employed in noblest praise.

Lover and friend, and all the dearly cherished of the heart,

Who long have rested in the tomb,

Shall come and join the choral strain.

From earth aroused,

The voice of harmony that flows so sweet around the throne,

Their tongues shall ever swell.

Then, then, there shall be peace, — a settled calm, a soft serenity,

More gently mild than earth.

With all its gorgeous scenes, can hope to bring a meet comparison.

And all that peace shall live and reign a long forever there,

Forever there!

And this eternity shall make that heaven, a heaven.

My Eternal King

Poem (anonymous) from 17th Century Latin Music by

Translated by Rev. Edward Caswell JANE MANTON MARSHALL

My God, I love Thee;

Not because I hope for heaven thereby,

Nor yet because who love Thee not

Must die eternally.

Thou, O my Jesus,

Thou didst me upon the cross embrace;

For me didst bear the nails and spear,

And manifold disgrace;

Why, then why, O blessed Jesus Christ,

Should I not love Thee well?

Not for the hope of winning heaven,

Or of escaping hell.

Not with the hope of gaining aught,

Not seeking a reward;

But as Thyself hast loved me,

O everlasting Lord!

Even so I love Thee, and will love,

And in Thy praise will sing;

Solely because Thou art my God,

And my Eternal King.

Jane Marshall (b.1924) has been known for many years for her anthems and for her choral conducting, which she

still teaches at Perkins School of Theology, SMU. Also a poet and hymn tune writer, she is represented in many

hymnals and served as a consultant to the committee preparing the 1989 United Methodist Hymnal. She is the

author of Grace, Noted, a collection of homilies, poems, and lectures.

Jane holds Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from Southern Methodist University, where she has also served

on the English, Music, and Seminary faculties. Her professional affiliations include membership in the Hymn

Society of America, Mu Phi Epsilon, Pi Kappa, Lambda, The American Guild of Organists, and Choristers Guild.

She has also served on the Board of Directors of Choristers Guild. (3/05)
