Overview of Topic SCC-02-2016-2017

Innovative nature-based solutions in cities

In the face of mass urbanisation, climate change mitigation and adaptationand the sustainable management of water resources are key challenges forcities in the 21st century. The H2020 topic SCC-02-2016-2017 invitesproposals from consortia to develop, demonstrate and deploy innovativenature-based solutions for cities, which should be co-designed, co-developed and co-implemented in a trans-disciplinary, multi-stakeholderand participatory context. These solutions should be embedded in anintegrated urban and land use planning as part of the intervention.Proposals should assess potential regulatory, economic, social and technicalbarriers; and develop methodologies for replication and up-scaling indifferent contexts.

Methodology

Stage 1: Mapping of research projects: The CORDIS database wassearched using pre-selected keywords across the full suite of FP7 andHorizon 2020 programmes and relevant projects identified

Stage 2: Mapping of key Institutes to receive water research funding:The research projects from Stage 1 were comprehensively searched todiscern whether there was evidence of research institutes involved inmultiple research projects. The top performing institutes involved inmultiple projects were identified.

Stage 3: Analysis of “networking” groups: A range of EU networkinggroups in the water research area were analysed as part of Stage 3 .Participants in networks which were also “top performing institutes” fromStage 2 were identified.
