Let us teach your childto swim safe!
• Being alone is a contributing factor in many drownings — 74%occurs when the victim is an unsupervised child under 5 years ofage. It includes almost all bathtub and most backyard pooldrownings.
• Few drownings occur under lifeguard supervision - almost allwater related deaths in Ontario occur in situations notsupervised by lifeguards.
• Drowning is silent and a person can drown in as little as 30seconds. You will not hear a person call for help if they aredrowning.
• Always “swim with a buddy”. Don’t go in water alone, regardlessof your age and swimming ability.
• Play and swim at pool and waterfronts supervised by lifeguards.• If you find yourself needing help in the water, there will be a
friend, or parent or lifeguard who can assist you and call foremergency assistance if needed.
