WHEREThe Market is on Ionia Avenue just south of Wealthy Street, adjacent to US-131. Located at the southern edge of downtown Grand Rapids, the Market is built on a 3.5 acre parcel owned by the DDA. The site offers 200+ parking spaces and easy access to the Rapid fixed-route system, and Michigan’s first bus rapid transit system, the Silver Line.
THE CONCEPT
The Market is a mixed-use facility that brings together production, distribution, marketing, and education about local foods. The facility features a 24-vendor Market Hall, large outdoor market shed, 2 full-service restaurants, and other food production and distribution spaces. Unique features include a shared Incubator Kitchen program, rooftop greenhouses, a kid-friendly teaching kitchen, and special event/demonstration space for 175-250 guests. The Market is Gold LEED-certified, incorporating a number of innovative sustainability features, particularly around energy and recycling.
