THE GAYTHE GAYĀĀ OR UNIVERSAL OR UNIVERSAL ŚŚRRĀĀDDHA DDHA
Commencement ... śrāddha bhūmau gayāṁ dhyātvā dhyātvā devaṁ gadādharam | sva-pitṛn manasā dhyātvā tataḥ śrāddhaṁ samācaret ||
Having imagined that the place of performance of the obsequial rite is Gaya, having worshipped the Lord Gadadhara, and having mentally invoked the manes one should perform the rite.
namo brahmaṇya devāya go-brāhmaṇa hitāya ca | jagad-hitāya kṛṣṇāya govindāya namo namah ||
Salutations to the most adorable Lord of the Universe; Krsna who is beneficient to the spiritually-‐minded and the whole world.
namo namaste govinda purāṇa puruṣottama | idaṁ śrāddhaṁ hṛṣīkeśa rakṣatām sarvato diśaḥ ||
I offer my obeisance to the Ancient Primeval Lord Govinda. O Master-‐of-‐the-‐senses please protect this obsequial rite in all directions.
Rakṣa dīpa sthāpanam
! Light the Rakṣa-dīpam
bho dīpa brahma rūpas tvaṁ karma-sākṣī hyavighna-kṛta | yāvat karma samāptiḥ syāt tāvat tvam susthiro bhava ||
Śānti pāṭhaḥ
! Think of yourself, your loved ones and all beings and wish them well.
bha draṁ karṇe bhiḥ śṛṇu yāma devā bha draṁ pa śyemākṣibhi r-yaja trāḥ sthi rair-aṅga is-tuṣṭu vāguṁ sa sta nūbhiḥ vyaśe ma de vahi ta ṁ yadāyu ḥ sva sti na indro vṛddhaśra vāḥ | sva sti na ḥ pūṣā vi śvave dāḥ | sva sti na s tārkṣyo ari ṣṭanemiḥ | sva sti no bṛha spati r dadhātu ||
dyauś śānti r a ntari kṣa gu ṁ śānti ḥ pṟthi vī śānti r āpa śānti r oṣa dhaya śānti ḥ | vana spata ya śānti r viśve de vāś śānti r brahma śānti s sarva guṁ śānti ś śānti r e va śānti s sā mā śānti r edhi ||

Govinda, Govinda, Govinda, with the permission of the Supreme Being Lord Vishnu, in this period during the second half of the life-‐span of the demiurge Brahma, during the aeon of the White Boar, during the universal rule of Vaivasvata Manu in the 28th period, during the first quarter of the age of Kali, on the planet Earth in land south of mount Meru, in the Golden Land before all the devas and brahmins, in the year .................... of the 60 year Jovian cycle, in the .................. solstice, during the .................. season, in the month of ...................... in the .................. fortnight, on the .................. lunar day, on a .............. day under the constellation of .................... with auspicious conjunctions, and all the planets being benevolently disposed, with the sanction of the Supreme Lord, and as service to Him, I shall perform the Universal Obsequial rite in order to uplift all those of our family who have died and not yet achieved liberation.
Samaṣṭi (Communal)
pitṛṇāṁ bāndhavānāṁ mitrāṇāṁ ca saṁbhāvita pretatva nāśana pūrvaka mukti prāpti kāmaḥ gayā śrāddham ahaṁ adya kariṣye || In order to obviate any possibility of my friends or kinsfolk becoming hungry ghosts and in order to facilitate their attainment of liberation I perform this Obsequial rite.
Specific viśeṣa rūpeṇa nimna ulekhānāṁ vyaktyānām uddiśya śrāddham vayam kariṣyāmaha And specifically for the following mentioned individuals we offer this obsequial rite:—
tad aṅgatvena antaḥkaraṇa śuddhyartham, śarīra śuddhyartham, sarvopakaraṇa śuddhyartham, karma-pātra sādhanaṁ kariṣye.
Karma-pātra sādhanam
! Place a vessel filled with water upon a pile of rice, add parimala dravya, and a flower, decorate the four sides with sandal paste and kumkum. Cover the mouth of the vessel with the right hand or show the ankusha mudra.

kalaśasya mukhe viṣṇuḥ kaṇṭhe rudra samāśritaḥ | mūle tatra sthito brahmā madhye mātṛgaṇāḥ smṛtāḥ || kukṣau tu sāgara sarva sapta dvīpa vasundharā
The mouth of this vessel (representing the universe) is Vishnu, the neck is Rudra, the Base is Brahma, in the centre all the sounds of the letters reside. All the oceans are within your belly along with the seven continents.
ṛgvedo'tha yajur vedaḥ sāma vedo'hyatharvaṇaḥ | angaiśca sahitās sarve kalaśāmbu samāśritāḥ ||
The Rig, Yajur, Sama and Atharvana Vedas together with all their branches dwell within the waters.
gaṅge ca yamune caiva godāvarī sarasvatī | narmade sindhu kāveri jale'smin sannidhiṁ kuru ||
May the Divine streams of Light represented by the rivers Gange, Yamuna, Godavari, Sarasvati, Narmada, Sindhu and Kaveri be present in these waters.
puṣkarādyāni tīrthāni gaṅgādyās saritas tathā | āyantu loka śāntyārthaṁ durita kṣaya kārakāḥ ||
May all the sacred pools, and tanks along with the Ganga and other rivers and streams be present here to grant peace to the world and to erase my negative impressions.
! Recite the following mantras:—
yad de va deva heḍa na ṁ devāsaś-cakṛmā va yam | a gnir mā tasmād ena so viśvān muñca tvaguṁ ha saḥ || yadi divā yadi nakta m enāguṁsi cakṛmā va yam | vāyur mā tasmād ena so viśvān muñca tvaguṁ ha saḥ || yadi jāgrad yadi svapna enāguṁsi cakṛmā va yam | sūryo mā tasmād ena so viśvān muñca tvaguṁ ha saḥ ||

Aspersion
oṁ apavitraḥ pavitro vā sarvāvasthaṁ-gatopi vā | yas-smaret puṇḍarikākṣaṁ sa bāhyābhyantaraś-śuciḥ ||
Bhū-sahita Gadādhara Pūjā
! Invoke and worship the Lord in a Kalaśa or śāligrāma
śāntākāraṁ bhujaga-śayanaṁ padma-nābhaṁ sureśaṁ viśvādhāraṁ gagana-sadṛśaṁ megha-varṇaṁ śubhāṅgam | laksmī-kāntaṁ kamala-nayanaṁ yogibhir-dhyāna-gamyaṁ vande viṣṇuṁ bhava-bhaya-haraṁ sarva-lokaika-nātham ||

I offer my obeisance to Vishnu, who is the embodiment of peace, resting upon the serpent of Tine (Anantasesha). From His navel sprouts the lotus of cosmic manifestation. He is the Lord of the celestial beings. His form is the universe. He is like the sky and of the colour of clouds, auspicious of limbs. He is the Lord of the Goddess of Prosperity, His eyes are like lotuses, and He is realized by yogis through deep meditation. He is the remover of the fear of rebirth, He is the one Lord of the entire Universe.
ṛtaguṁ sa tyaṁ pa raṁ bra hma pu ruṣa ṁ kṛṣṇa piṅga lam | ūrdhvare taṁ vi rūpākṣa ṁ vi śvarūpāya vai namo namaḥ || The Supreme Brahman the Absolute Reality is a Being dark-‐blue and yellowish in color, absolutely chaste and possessing uncommon eyes; salutations to Him of the Universal-‐form.
dhyāyāmi sa ha sra śīrṣā puru ṣaḥ | sa hasrākṣaḥ sa hasra pāt | sa bhūmi ṁ vi śvato vṛtvā | atyatiṣṭhad daśāṅgu lam || 1 ||
āvāhayāmi puru ṣa e vedaguṁ sarvaṁ | yad bhūtaṁ yac ca bhavyam | u tāmṛta tva syeśānaḥ | ya d anne nā ti roha ti || 2 ||
āsanam samarpayāmi etāvān asya mahimā | ato jyāyāgu ś ca pūru ṣaḥ | pādo ’sya viśvā bhūtāni | tri pād a syām ṛta m di vi || 3 ||
pādyam samarpayāmi. tri pād ūrdhva udai t puru ṣaḥ | pādo ’sye hā’’bha vāt puna ḥ | tato viśva ṅ vya krāmat | sāśa nāna śa ne a bhi || 4 ||
arghyaṁ samarpayāmi tasmād vi rāḍ a jāyata | vi rājo adhi pūru ṣaḥ | sa jāto atya ricyata | pa ścād bhūmi m atho pu raḥ || 5 ||
ācamanam samarpayāmi yat puru ṣeṇa ha viṣā | de vā ya jñam ata nvata | va sa nto a syāsīd ājyam | grīṣma i dhmaś śa rad-ha viḥ || 6 ||
snānam snāpayāmi. sa ptāsyāsan pari dhāya ḥ | triḥ sa pta sa midha ḥ kṛtāḥ | de vā yad ya jñam tanvānāḥ | aba dhna n puru ṣam pa śum || 7 ||
vastram samarpayāmi tam ya jñam barhiṣi praukṣa n | puru ṣam jātam a gra taḥ | tena de vā aya janta | sādhyā ṛṣa yaś ca ye || 8 ||
upavitaṁ samarpayāmi tasmād ya jñāt sa rva huta ḥ | sambhṛtaṁ pṛṣad ājyam | pa ṣūguṁs tāggaś ca kre vāya vyān | āra ṇyān grāmyāśca ye || 9 ||
gandhaṁ samarpayāmi tasmād ya jñāt sa rva hu taḥ | ṛca ḥ sāmāni jajñire | chandāgu ṁsi jajñire tasmāt | yaju s tasmād ajāyata || 10 ||

puṣpaiḥ pūjayāmi. viṣṇu nāmavalli oṁ keśavāya namaḥ | nārāyaṇāya | mādhavāya | govindāya | viṣṇave | madhusūdanāya | trivikramāya | vāmanāya | śrīdharāya | hṛṣikeśāya | padmanābhāya | dāmodarāya | saṅkarṣaṇāya | vāsudevāya | pradyumnāya | aniruddhāya | puruṣottamāya | adhokṣajāya | nārasiṁhāya | acyutāya | janārdanāya | upendrāya | haraye | kṛṣṇāya || śrī devi nāmavalli

oṁ bhūmi-sahita śrī gadādharāya namaḥ nāna vidhāni parimala patra-puṣpāṇi samarpayāmi
tasmād aśva ayājanta | ye ke co bha yāda taḥ | gavo ha jajñire tasmāt | tasmāj jātā a jā vaya ḥ || 11 ||
dhūpaṁ aghrāpayāmi yat puru ṣaṁ vya dadhuḥ | ka ti dhā vya kalpayan | mukha ṁ kim a sya kau bāhū | kā vūrū pādā vucyete || 12 ||
dīpaṁ darśayāmi brāhma ṇo ’sya mukha m āsīt | bāhū rāja nya ḥ kṛtaḥ | ūrū tad a sya yad vaiśya ḥ | pa dbhyāguṁ śūdro a jāyata || 13 ||
naivedyaṁ nivedayāmi ca ndramā mana so jātaḥ | cakṣo s-sūryo ajāyata | mukhād indra ś cāgniś ca | prāṇād vāyur a jāyata || 14 ||
tāmbūlaṁ samarpayāmi nābhyā āsīd a ntari kṣam | śīrṣṇo dyauḥ samavartata | pa dbhyāṁ bhūmi r diśa ś śrotrāt | tathā lo kāguṁ a kalpayan || 15 ||
tad viṣṇo ḥ para maṁ pa dagm sadā paśyanti sūrayaḥ | di vīva cakṣu rātatam ||
tad viprāso vipa nyavo jāgṟvāgm saḥ sami ndhate | viṣṇo r yat para maṁ pa dam ||
nirājanam sandarśayāmi |

Namaskāraḥ vedāham e taṁ puru ṣaṁ ma hāntam | ādi tya va rṇa ṁ tama sa s tu pāre | sarvāṇi rūpāṇi vi citya dhīra ḥ | nāmāni kṛtvā’bhi vada n yadāste || 16 ||
eko viṣṇur mahad bhūtaṁ pṛthak bhūtānyanekaśaḥ | trīnlokān vyāpya bhūtātmā bhuṅkte viśvabhuk avyayaḥ ||
There is only One Supreme All-‐pervading Lord of the Universe who dwells with the hearts of all beings, pervading all the three realms of existence, he remains, experiencing all through the individual jiva..
oṁ bhūmi-sahita śrī gadā-dharāya namaḥ
Stotram
avyakta-rūpo yo devā muṇḍa pṛṣṭhādīpa kṛtat | phalugu tīrthādi rūpeṇa taṁ namāmi gadādharam || 1 || vyaktarūpo hi yo devo janārdana svarūpataḥ | muṇḍa-pṛṣṭhe svayaṁ hyasti taṁ namāmi gadādharam || 2 || śīlāyāṁ brahma rūpiṇyāṁ sthitaṁ brahmādibhiḥ suraiḥ | pūjitaṁ satkṛtaṁ devais taṁ namāmi gadādharam || 3 || mahādevaṁ ca jagato vyaktasyaikaṁ hi kāraṇam | avyakta jñāna rūpaṁ taṁ namāmi gadādharam || 4 || yaṁ ca dṛṣṭā tathā dṛṣṭvā pūjayitvā praṇamya ca | śrāddhādau brahmalokāptis taṁ namāmi gadādharam || 5 || dehendriya mano vṛddhi prāṇāhaṅkāra varjitaṁ | jāgrat svapna vinirmuktaṁ namāmyādi gadādharam || 6 || nityānitya vinirmuktaṁ sāmānyānanda varjitaṁ | turīyaṁ jyotir ātmānaṁ taṁ namāmi gadādharam || 7 ||
Pitṛ Pūjā
oṁ pūrvokta guṇa viśeṣaṇa visiṣṭāyāṁ asyāṁ puṇya tithau — pitṛadīṇāṁ bāndhavānāṁ mitrāṇāṁ ca saṁbhāvita pretatva nāśana pūrvaka punar-āvṛtti rahita, śāśvata uttama-loka prāpti kāmaḥ mahālaya amavāsya śrāddham aham kariṣye || Today I will perform the Memorial rite in order to liberate all those of my ancestors, extended family and friends who may still be embodied as hungry ghosts, so that they may not be reborn but may attain Liberation from Samsara. ! Ācamanam, apasavyam, face the south:—

kavya-vāḍanalaḥ somo yamaścaivaryamā tathā | agniśvātta barhiṣadaḥ somapāḥ pitr-devatā || 1 ||
āgacchantu mahā-bhāgā yuṣmābhī rakṣitās-tviha | madīyāḥ pitaro ye ca kule jātāḥ sanāmayaḥ || 2 ||
teṣāṁ piṇḍa pradānāya āgatosmi gayām imām | te sarve tṛptim āyāntu śrāddhenānena śāśvatām || 3 ||
O revered and venerable progenitors of mine, of all the various classes, I invoke your presence along with the gods, Soma, Yama, Aryama and all the others. I have presented myself here [at Gaya] in order to make offerings for your benefit, may you all be satisfied with this rite. oṁ pitrādibhyo namaḥ | oṁ bāndhavādibhyo namaḥ | oṁ mitrādibhyo namaḥ ||
Invocation of Parents
! On two blades of darbha grass pour some water with sesame seeds after reciting the following invocations.
Mother
āgarbha jñāna paryantaṁ pālito’haṁ tvayā sadā | āvāhayāmi tvām ambāṁ darbha pṛṣṭhe tilodakaiḥ ||
Father
pitā me paramo dharmaḥ pitā me paramam tapaḥ | svargaḥ pitā me tat tṛptau tṛptam asty-akhilaṁ jagat || āvāhayāmi tvām pitṛu darbha pṛṣṭhe tilodakaiḥ ||
mātaraṁ pitaraṁ caiva sākṣāt pratyakṣa devatām | jananyā varddhito deho janakena prapoṣitaḥ | tasmāt krtajña bhāvena bhūyo bhūyo namāmyaham ||
Invocation of the ancestors

bandhu vargaṁ kule ye ca gatir-yeṣāṁ na vidyate | āvāhayiṣyetān sarvān darbha pṛṣṭhe tilodakaiḥ ||
With sesame seeds and water, I invoke on this darbha grass all those in my extended family who have not yet attained liberation.
pita pitāmahāścaiva tathaiva prapitāmahaḥ | mātā pitāmahī caiva tathaiva prapitāmahī || mātā-mahas tat-pitā ca pramātāmahākādayaḥ | teṣāṁ piṇḍo mayā data hyakṣayam upatiṣṭatu ||

Gandham amī vaḥ sakuṁkuma karpūra aguru caṁpaka padmaka miśra gandhāḥ ||
Puṣpāni imāni puṣpāni śrī tulasī dalāni ca || Dhūpam ghrāṇa tṛpti arthaṁ ayaṁ vo dhūpaḥ || Dīpam avalokana arthaṁ ayaṁ vo dīpaḥ || Sūtram ācchādana arthaṁ idaṁ vastram [ūrṇa-sūtraṁ darbhān vā] Akṣata śeṣa upacāra artham ime akṣatāḥ
oṁ devatābhyaḥ pitṛbhyaśca mahā yogibhya eva ca | namaḥ svadhāyai svāhāyai nityam eva namo namaḥ ||
Comprehensive Universal Libation
! Offer tilodakam x 3 from the pitru tīrtha on two blades of south-pointing darbha
ābrahma stambha paryantaṁ devaṛṣi pitṛ mānavāḥ | tṛpyantu bhūtānām sarve sarva loka-nivāsinām ||
atīta kula koṭināṁ sapta-dvīpa nivāsinām | ābrahma bhuvanāṁ lokān idam astu tilodakam || tṛpyata | tṛpyata | tṛpyata |
From Brahma down to a blade of grass, including, gods, sages and human beings may all beings be satisfied. To all those who were related to me, in millions of previous familial arrangements anywhere in the seven-‐fold universe, from the Brahma realm down to this world I offer this sesame and water.
Piṇḍa-dānam
! Sprinkle sesame seed & water on the leaf in front.
asmat kule mṛtā kule ye ca gatir-yeṣāṁ na vidyate | āvāhayiṣyetān sarvān darbha pṛṣṭhe tilodakaiḥ ||
With water and sesame seeds I invoke here on this sacred grass, all those of my extended family who have died and not yet attained liberation
! Offer a rice ball with each of the following verses.
bandhu vargaṁ kule ye ca gatir-yeṣāṁ na vidyate | teṣām uddharaṇārthāya imaṁ piṇḍaṁ dadāmyaham || 1 ||

I make this offering to uplift all those in my extended family and associates who are wandering about in spiritual confusion and have not yet attained liberation.
ajāta dantā ye kecid ye ca garbhe prapīḍitāḥ | teṣām uddharaṇārthāya imaṁ piṇḍaṁ dadāmyaham || 2 ||
I make this offering to uplift all those who died in infancy before teething & to those who were still-‐ born.
mahā roga prapīḍitānām sarveṣām ca ye mṛtāḥ | teṣām uddharaṇ-ārthāya imaṁ piṇḍaṁ dadāmyaham || 3 ||
I make this offering to uplift all those who died in great suffering from dreadful diseases.
agni-dagdhāśca ye kecin nāgnidagdhās tathāpare | vidyuc-caura-hatā ye ca tebhyaḥ piṇḍaṁ dadāmyaham || 4 ||
I make this offering for all those who were cremated or buried, and to those who were electrocuted or murdered by robbers.
udbandhana mṛtā ye ca viṣa śastra-hatāśca ye | ātmopaghātino ye ca tebhyaḥ piṇḍaṁ dadāmyaham || 5 ||
I make this offering for all those who were executed or committed suicide by hanging themselves or by other means, or who died by poison, or by weapons.
ātatāyinaiḥ hatānām sarveṣām vai prapīḍitām | teṣām uddharaṇārthāya imaṁ piṇḍaṁ dadāmyaham || 6 ||
I make this offering for the the upliftment all those who suffered greatly and were murdered by cruel oppressors.
araṇye karmani vane kṣudhayā tṛṣṇayā hatā | bhūta preta piśācādyais-tebhyaḥ piṇḍaṁ dadāmyaham || 7 ||
I make this offering for all those, who due to their karma, died alone from hunger and thirst in deserted places, or whose death was due to elementals or hungry ghosts.
rauravādi narakānām sarveṣām ca ye gatāḥ | teṣām uddharaṇārthāya imaṁ piṇḍaṁ dadāmyaham || 8 ||
I make this offering to uplift all those who have been consigned to the various hellish realms and states of being.
paśu yoniṁ gatā ye ca pakṣi kīṭa sarīsṛpāḥ | athavā vṛkṣa yonisthāḥ tebhyaḥ piṇḍaṁ dadāmyaham || 9 ||
I make this offering to uplift all those who have been born again as beasts, birds, worms, reptiles or trees.
aneka yātanā sāṁsthā preta-lokañca ye gatā | teṣām uddharaṇārthāya imaṁ piṇḍaṁ dadāmyaham || 10 ||
I make this offering to uplift all those who are now in various states of intense suffering in the realm of hungry ghosts.

asaṅkhya yātanā saṁsthā ye nītā yama-śāsanaiḥ | teṣām uddharaṇārthāya imaṁ piṇḍaṁ dadāmyaham || 11 ||
I make this offering to uplift all those who are being tormented in innumerable ways by the agents of Death.
jātyantara sahasreṣu bhramanti svena karmaṇā | mānuṣyaṁ durlabhaṁ yeṣāṁ tebhyaḥ piṇḍaṁ dadāmyaham || 12 ||
I make this offering for those to whom birth in a human form has become difficult of access, due to their own karma, and who are born and reborn in countless other species.
divyantarikṣa bhūmiṣṭhāḥ pitaro bāndhavādayaḥ | mṛtā asaṁskṛtā ye ca tebhyaḥ piṇḍaṁ dadāmyaham || 13 ||
I make this offering for those of my ancestors and extended family who are situated in the higher astral realms or upon the earth, who died without transformative rites.
ye me kule lupta piṇḍāḥ putra dāra vivarjitāḥ | kriyā-lopa-hatā ye ca jātyandhāḥ paṅgavas tathā || virūpā āma-garbhāśca jñātājñātāḥ kule mama | teṣāṁ piṇḍaṁ mayā dattam akṣayam upatiṣṭhatām || 14 ||
To all those who were my kinsfolk, to all those who have been deprived of the obsequial offerings, to those who had no spouses or offspring, to those who had died without any rites, and to those who were born blind, to those who were lame, to those who were deformed, and to those who died in the womb, for all these, whether known to me or not, I make these offerings for their benefit and upliftment.
bāndha-vargāśca ye kecin nāma gotra vivarjitāḥ | sva-gotre para-gotre vā gatir yeṣāṁ na vidyate | teṣām uddharaṇārthāya imaṁ piṇḍaṁ dadāmyaham || 15 ||
I make this offering to uplift all those of my kinsfolk whose names and clan are forgotten, whether they be of my immediate family or not.
mitrāṇāṁ sarve paśavaśca vṛkṣāḥ spṛṣṭāśca kṛtopakārāḥ | janmāntare ye mama saṅgatāśca tebhyaḥ piṇḍaṁ dadāmyaham || 16 ||
To all my friends, to all the animals and plants that touched my life and favoured me, to all those who were my companions throughout my myriad of births I make this offering.
Conclusion
ye kecit preta rūpeṇa vartante bāndhavo mama | te sarve tṛptim āyāntu piṇḍa dānena sarvadā || 1 ||
Let all those who are related to me in any way, and who are still earth-‐bound in the form of hungry ghosts; be satiated by these offerings.
ye bāndhavā'bāndhavā vā ye'nya janmani bāndhavāḥ | te sarve tṛptim āyāntu piṇḍa dānena sarvadā || 2 ||
Let all beings be satiated by these offerings, whether they be my kinsfolk or not, or whether they were kinsfolk in my previous births.

sākṣiṇaḥ santu me devā brahmeśāna ādayas tathā | mayā gayāṁ samāsādya bāndhava niṣkṛtiḥ kṛtā || 3 ||
Let all the devas bear witness, let Brahma, Siva and others bear witness. We have come to perform the universal obsequial rites for all our kinsfolk.
āgato'haṁ gayāṁ deva pitṛ-kārye gadādhara | tan-me sākṣī bhavatv-adya anṛṇo'ham ṛṇa-trayāt || 4 ||
O Gadadhara, for performing the obsequial rites I have come. Be my witness today that I have discharged my duty to all the enlightened sages, the gods and my extended family.
Garuḍa Purāṇa 1.85.2-‐ 22 Prārthana
dātāro no 'bhivardhantāṁ vedās santatir eva na | śraddhā ca no mā vyapagāt bahu deyaṁ ca no astu || annaṁ ca no bahu bhaved atithīṁś ca labhemahi | yācitāraś ca nas santu mā ca yāciṣma kañcana || May our clan expand may our wellwishers increase. May our learning expand and our faith be not diminished. May we have many objects fit to be given, and much foodstuffs. May we receive many guests and may we have many petitioners. May we never need to petition any one, may this blessing be ours.
oṁ pramādāt kurvitam karma pracyavetādhvareṣu yat | smaraṇād eva tad viṣṇoḥ saṁpūrṇa syāt iti śrutiḥ ||
If inadvertently a slip occurs while one is performing a sacrifice, mere remembrance of Vishnu rectifies the fault. This is what is laid down by the Vedas.
prāyaścitta anya śeṣāṇi tapaḥ karmātma kāni vai | yāni teṣām aśeṣāṇāṁ kṛṣṇa anusmaraṇaṁ param ||
There is no other expiation in austerities and other actions whereby everything that is deficient becomes whole other than by the remembrance of the name of Krishna.
yasya smṛtyā ca nāmoktyā tapo yajña kriyādiṣu | nyūnam sampūrṇatām yāti sado vande tam acyutam ||
Through the remembrance or recitation of the name of Acyuta while performing any austerity, yajña or ritual, all imperfections therein are immediately corrected.
anena kṛtena gayā śrāddha karmaṇā bhagavan gadādharaḥ priyatāṁ na mama || oṁ tat sad brahmārpaṇam astu ||

svasti mantrārthāḥ satyās saphalās santu iti bhavanto mahānto anugṛhṇantu || 1 || tathāstu ! sarveṣāṁ saha-kuṭumbānām vedoktam dīrghaṁ āyuṣyaṁ bhūyāt iti bhavanto mahānto anugṛhṇantu || 2 || sarveṣāṁ pituḥ pratyābdika śrāddhe karmani mantra-lopa, tantra-lopa, kriya-lopa, śraddhā-lopa, niyama-lopa, sarvam yathā śāstra anuṣṭitam bhūyāt iti bhavanto mahānto anugṛhṇantu || 3 || sarveṣāṁ saha-kuṭumbānām gṛhe vasatāṁ dvipadāṁ catuṣpadāṁ nīroga śatāyuṣaṁ bhūyāditi bhavanto mahānto anugṛhṇantu || 4 || sarveṣāṁ saha-kuṭumbānām vidyamān aiśvarya dvāra itopyadhik aiśvarya avāpti, candra arkam vamśa abhivṛdhi uttarottara abhivṛdhiśca bhūyāsur iti bhavanto mahānto anugṛhṇantu || 5 || sarveṣāṁ saha-kuṭumbānām brahma-prajñā, śraddhā, medhā, vidyā, yaśo, varcaḥ āyuṣyam, balam, indriyam, tejo, annādyaṁ, dhanam, dhānyam, paśavaḥ sthairyaṁ siddhir lakṣmīḥ, satyam, tapo, dharma, kṣamā, vinayaḥ, pratiṣṭhā, śāntiḥ, śobhanam, sadguṇā ānando nityotsavo nityaśrī nityamangalaṁ, sarvam vardhamānam bhūyād iti bhavanto mahānto anugṛhṇantu || 6 || sarve janāḥ nīrogāḥ nir-upadravāḥ sad-ācāra-sampannā āḍhyā nirmatsara dayālavasca bhūyāsur iti bhavanto mahānto anugṛhṇantu || 7 ||
