1 Solution Information
This guide provides general information you need to use the solution "Getting Started with SAP Solution
Manager 72 - Design and Build in Your SAP S/4HANA Planning Phase."
SAP Solution Manager 7.2 is the most complete lifecycle management solution for SAP and non-SAP software.
It allows you to continuously protect your investments, leverage innovation, and achieve value from your SAP
solutions.
SAP Solution Manager 7.2 features:
Web-based solution documentation
Solution Manager Launchpad, based on SAP Fiori
Ready-made deployment best practices
Integrated Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN) graphical modeling
New project and release management capabilities
The goal is to provide a comprehensive design and build environment that allows you to even more efficiently
manage your existing SAP ERP solutions and implement the next-generation business suite from SAP: SAP
S/4HANA.
Best of all, through the power and flexibility of the SAP Cloud Appliance Library (SAP CAL) you can evaluate
these new capabilities and Best Practices content on your own, personal SAP Solution Manager 7.2 system with
a 30-day trial system at an affordable cost.
The purpose of this solution is to allow SAP customers and partners to evaluate SAP S/4HANA and SAP
Solution Manager solution package content in the new SAP Solution Manager 7.2 solution documentation UI. A
Corporate Solution has been created , that contains the Best Practice Package content for SAP S/4HANA in the
Import branch.
This SAP Solution Manager 7.2 solution also contains a sample SAP S/4HANA Simple Finance project in the
Project Management area. Note that no other SAP Solution Manager processes are configured.
The Project Management and Solution Documentation areas can be accessed from the Solution Manager
Launchpad, saved as a favorite in the SOLMAN sample user menu or via transaction code SM_WORKCENTER.
With Support Package 03 of SAP Solution Manager 7.2, it is now possible to easily import additional Best
Practice packages via the backend connection or by flat file using the Import option in Solution Administration
(transaction code SOL_ADM.) You also have the option of exporting solution documentation content to a .json
file format, make changes, and import into other SAP Solution Manager 7.2 systems.
Note:

S/4HANA Planning Phase
This SAP Solution Manager 7.2 system does not contain any sample projects in the SOLAR transactions, and it
is not possible to upload 7.1 solution documentation and perform content activation on this system. If you wish
to perform this operation, use the solution "SAP Solution Manager 7.2 SPS03 for Content Activation Evaluation
of a Customer's Own Documentation." That solution also has the SAP S/4HANA Best Practice content installed
as well.
Note: a dummy SAP S/4HANA system S4H has been defined in the Solution Manager Landscape Management
Database (LMDB) for demo purposes. If you plan to define a real S/4HANA managed system, you can remove
this placeholder system.

1.7 Post-Installation Steps
1.7.1 Connect to the SAP Solution Manager 7.2 Instance
As many of the SAP Solution Manager 7.2 key documentation and project management capabilities are
browser-based, customers have found it easier to access this system from the Windows Fronted via the .rdp
file accessed when you select the Connect option in your SAP CAL tenant.
To access, select Connect and double-click the .rdp file. Enter the master password when prompted.
You can now start the SAP GUI on the Windows Frontend desktop for the A4H system. When you access the
system via the Windows frontend, all browser-based applications will function properly right away.
If you elect to use a local SAP GUI on your own local computer, you will need to create a new SAP GUI entry
where the application server is the IP address of the SAP Solution Manager system, the instance is 00, and
the SID is A4H. If using your local system and accessing browser-based applications such as the new SAP
Solution Manager solution documentation, you will need to adjust your local hosts file, normally located at
C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc. Edit the file with Notepad as an administrator, and add an entry for your
fully qualified host name and the IP address. Save the hosts file without a file extension.
Note that if you work with more than one SAP Solution Manager 7.2 in SAP CAL system at the same time, you
will have to adjust the hosts file as you switch between systems if you use browser-based applications.
Customers have found that if this is the case, it's easier to access the systems using the Windows Frontend
option.
In addition, when using the SAP GUI from your own local computer, some web applications (such as SAP
Solution Manager 7.2's Solution Documentation UI) will require that you enable access to the necessary http
ports in your appliance properties, accessible from your SAP CAL tenant. You should also check if your local
IT department has enabled Direct Access on your local Windows system or any other secure client software
that could prevent you from access the SAP CAL system across the external Internet.
1.8.1 Connecting to the SAP Solution Manager Java system
For connecting to the SAP Solution Manager Java system, you will need a user in the A4H system's ABAP
stack with the role SAP_J2EE_ADMIN. You can use the SOLMAN_ADMIN user for this purpose.
1.8.2 Adding SAP Solution Manager to the SAP Management Console
To add the SAP Solution Manager 7.2 system to the SAP Management Console (SAPMMC), open the Console
from the desktop shortcut, and right-click on the 'SAP System". Choose "Properties", and then the "Fixed"
tab. Enter the SID A4H, and Hostname vhcala4hci 00 (keep space between hostname and instance) and
select Save.

2 License
Free Trial License Agreement
This solution could be used as a trial for the configured free period. Note that you are not allowed to install
license keys under the Free Trial License Agreement.
SAP Product License Agreement
To use the instances created from this solution under your own SAP Product License Agreements, you have
to unlock the solution in SAP Cloud Appliance Library. The prerequisites are that you own the required SAP
Product licenses and that you purchase the SAP Cloud Appliance Library subscription package. For more
information, see Unlocking Solutions.
License Keys Installation
Once you create the solution instance in SAP Cloud Appliance Library, the SAP system will generate a
temporary license key that is sufficient for exploration purpose. Note that valid license is required to use the
solution instance after the expiration of the pre-installed temporary license.
In this case, the SAP Solution Manager 7.2 solution has two separate SAP HANA databases for the separate
ABAP and JAVA stack. Unlike SAP Solution Manager 7.1, the 7.2 version is no longer a dual-stack system.

3 Security Aspects
Be aware that creating your instances in the public zone of your cloud computing platform is convenient but
less secure. Ensure that only port 22 (SSH) is opened when working with Linux-based solutions and port 3389
(RDP) when working with Windows based solutions. In addition, we also recommend that you limit the access
to your instances by defining a specific IP range in the Access Points settings, using CIDR notation. The more
complex but secure alternative is to set up a virtual private cloud (VPC) with VPN access, which is described in
this tutorial on SCN.
The list below describes the ports opened for the security group formed by the server components of your
solution instance:
To access back-end servers on the operating system (OS) level, use the following information:
Protocol Port Description
SSH 22 Used for SSH connection to Linux-based servers
RDP 3389 Used for RDP connection to Windows based servers
You must change the initial user passwords provided by SAP when you log onto the system for the first time.
Note that when using HANA based appliances, HANA systems are not installed individually but cloned from
a template system. As a consequence of this cloning process, the existing root keys are cloned. For more
information, see this SAP Note 2134846 - HANA encryption key handling during system cloning.
For more information about security vulnerabilities, see this community page.
3.1 RFC Connections
In this SAP Solution Manager 7.2 system, a few RFC connections have been created for you:
Name Description
LMDB_SYNCDEST1 Automatically generated destination for content synchronization from the
local SLD to Landscape Management Database (LMDB).
OCDAPIS Connection to download SAP Best Practice content to the solution
documentation. Maintain your own S-user, proxy and certificate if you wish to
download additional packages to this system.
OCDSTORE Connection to download SAP Best Practice content to the solution
documentation. Maintain your own proxy if you wish to download additional
packages to this system.
SMPAUDWNLD Automatically generated destination to the SAP Support Portal, maintain
your own S-user credentials if you wish to enable this connection.

Getting Started with SAP Solution Manager 7.2 SPS03 - Design and Build in Your SAP
S/4HANA Planning Phase
Name Description
SM_S4HCLNT100_READ Sample READ RFC to simulate a managed system for the solution
documentation. This points back the SAP Solution Manager 7.2's hostname.
The solution documentation libraries have been populated from an SAP CAL
S/4HANA 1511 solution to show how object information can be collected from
managed systems. Since this is a standalone appliance, this RFC prevents
notifications that the managed system READ RFC is missing.
If you attach a your own managed S/4HANA system in SAP CAL to your
Solution Manager 7.2, this destination will be overwritten with a real one
pointing to the managed system as part of Managed System Configuration in
SOLMAN_SETUP.
