GeneralGuidelinesforDilutingEssentialOils

Qualityessentialoilsshouldalwaysbeinadarkamberglassbottlewithaplasticinsert,calledanorificereducer,intheneckofthebottle.Thereducerlimitstheamountofoilthatcomesoutandmakesiteasiertocountdrops.ThedarkglasshelpskeeptheEOfromdegradingfromoverexposuretolight.AsessentialoilspurchasedinEuropehavesmallerreduceropeningsandthereforeproducesmallerdropsthanbottlessoldintheUS,moredropswillbeneededtogettoa1%dilution.Thefollowingisstandardizationofhowmanydropsareneededtoproduceanapproximate1%dilution:AmericanOrificeReducers:

5–6dropsper1ounceofcarrieroilEuropeanOrificeReducers:

9–10dropsper1ounceofcarrieroilCarrierOils:Useoilsthatareorganicandcoldpressedwithnoscent.SweetalmondoilApricotkerneloilGrapeseedoilJojobaoilAvocadooilWarningsandProperUsage:Essentialoilsshouldbeusedwiselyasjustbecausetheyarenaturaldoesn’tmeantheycan’tbetoxic.Becauseoftheirchemistry,manyEO’sareirritatingtotheskinandshouldthereforeneverbedirectlyappliedtotheskin.Adversereactionscanrangefromalittlerednessattheapplicationsiteto3rd-degreechemicalburnswithsomeseverereactionsresultingintoxicshockanddeath.
