Free Airport Pick-Up Sarnia, Chris Hadfield AirportFree airport pick-up will be available from August 25th to September 15th at the Sarnia (Chris Hadfield) airport. A staff member of Lambton College will be on hand to pick-up students from the airport. Please have the students send us their travel itinerary, so we can plan accordingly.

Toronto, Pearson AirportThere will be buses or vans, depending on the number of students that register for airport pick up, at the Toronto Pearson Airport on the following days: • Monday, August 29th • Wednesday, August 31st • Friday, September 2nd • Monday, September 5thA Lambton College representative will be located at the arrival area of terminal one from 6:30 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. with a Lambton College sign. The buses and/vans will be loaded at 7:15 p.m. and will depart from the Toronto airport at 7:30 p.m. sharp. All students who have registered for airport pick up need to be at the arrival area of terminal one by 7:15 p.m., otherwise, the students will miss their opportunity to board the bus and will be responsible for arranging their own transportation to Lambton College.

Free Shuttle ServiceFrom August 26th until September 9th ( 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily) Lambton College will be providing free shuttle services within Sarnia to aid our students with opening bank accounts, viewing accommodation, signing leases and other daily tasks that newly arrived students need to complete.

Free Temporary Accommodation Assistance (4 nights) Lambton College has set aside some temporary rooms in residence and we are also partnering with a local hotel to ensure that we can provide all new students with four nights of free accommodation assistance. We are certain that this will give students sufficient time to make informative decisions on their long term housing options and will also help alleviate some of the chaos of arriving in a new country. Also, it is important to note that this will only be offered for students arriving between August 25th and September 9th, as we will not have rooms available before or after this period of time.

Free Mattresses Based on a lottery system, Lambton College will be giving away 25 free mattresses to our international students in September.

Student Ambassadors Ambassadors will be available in our office and at residence to assist newly arriving students with an array of tasks which may consist of, searching for long term housing, opening bank accounts, setting up a mobile phone, buying used textbooks, bus schedules etc. In addition, they will be available to answer other questions which students may have about Lambton College or the city of Sarnia.

New Student Orientation Lambton College will be hosting an International Student Orientation week from August 29th to September 2nd, 2011. All international students will be enrolled in a Canadian Culture and You mandatory credit course which will commence during this week. However, we do realize that not all students will be able to be on campus for orientation week, but they will be responsible for catching up on the course content they have missed, which will not be unmanageable in any way. Since classes officially begin on August 29th, the last day to withdraw from classes, according to the ten day policy, will be on September 9th 2011. Over the next month or so, I will be sending out a detailed orientation schedule with a list of services we will be providing students during this week.

As you are aware, Lambton College strives to provide enhanced, unique, and ever evolving services to our international students. Therefore, our department continues to refine and enrich our welcome and support programs to meet the needs and better service our new and current international students. Likewise, this also reflects the ongoing commitment from Lambton College and the city of Sarnia to create an exceptional learning environment which incorporates and fosters the development of international students in our community. Our goal is to make the acclimatization period as comfortable as possible for newly arrived students, as we are fully cognizant of the challenges that culture shock presents in the first weeks of living in a foreign country. Below is an outline of some arrival and welcome services that we will be providing for the September 2011 intake.
