Training is a key feature of the Future Jobs Fund programme. All the partners in the project will have a role to play in providing a ‘guided’ learning experience for candidates to ensure they have the personal, professional and vocational skills required to be effective in their work. More importantly our role is to ensure that every candidate involved leaves the project with a new set of skills - skills that help them to find a long-term place in a highly competitive labour market.

We must therefore nurture and develop their confidence, characteristics and skills in a variety of areas. These will include: -• Social Skills i.e. lifestyle management• Employability Skills i.e. communication/time-management• Basic/Key Skills i.e. numeracy and literacy• Technical Skills i.e. sport-specific coaching qualifications

and CPD• Generic Skills i.e. First Aid, Health and Safety training.

In addition, deploying managers will also be offered free training in Coach Management, will be supported by our training provider, Sport Structures, and receive day-to-day support from our professional team at Sport Hampshire & IOW and Hampshire County Council.

Note: Deploying managers should not book individual training opportunities without prior communication with the FJF Project Manager. Any costs incurred from training booked without prior agreement with the Project Manager will be at the deployers own financial risk.

The Training ScheduleTraining will be organised in blocks wherever possible. This is designed to aid coordination and planning for the project, the candidates and deploying managers. However, some aspects of the training will be specific to individual candidates and deployers, based on sport-specific requirements, the settings in which coaching takes place and the individual needs of each candidate.

The first block of training is scheduled to take place in mid-late November 2010.

Mentoring will take place at the start of the project (during the first training block), at a midway point during which candidates will be brought together to review progress to date and at the end of the project or when a candidate is preparing to leave the project. Mentoring will form a key part of training journey, helping candidates to recognise the impact of formal, informal and non-formal training and personal development. The mentoring process if designed to ensure that candidates understand their strengths and weaknesses as employees, but more importantly as confident and competent individuals.

Sport Hampshire & IOW will work in conjunction with deployers and Sports Structures to identify specific training courses and ensure candidates have information in relation to booking, attendance and completion of courses.

Training Costs and ExpensesWe invest approximately £1k per candidate in training. We also have a small pot of funding towards training travel expenses. All training delivered by the project will be covered within this budget. If

deployers wish to invest in additional training courses, then we encourage this, though, we may not be able to contribute towards costs. Please consult the Project Manager, CJ Lee, before agreeing any additional

training with candidates.

Exit Interviews and Employability Training

Employability training will be an ongoing theme of the training journey. Each and everyday candidates will be learning about the skills required to be effective in the work place and develop skills that will make them

more competitive in the employment marketplace. However, we plan to ensure that these skills are not overlooked and therefore will ensure all candidates receive and exit interview and some CV and interview

skills training. Deployers will play a pivotal role in the exit interview process, focussing candidates on their strengths and weaknesses and providing candidates with references to support them in the future

employment.
