Thesis Statement Review
Begin with your topic.
Create a question.
Answer that question based on your research, and you have a thesis statement.
Bibliography Cards (Back)1. Prepare your note card. 2. On the back of the note card, in the top left corner,
write your topic. 3. Determine which source you will use.4. In the top right hand corner, write the number of the
source card. (for example, source card #1)5. Find a quote and write it on the back of your note
card. 6. In the bottom right hand corner, write the page
number in which the quote was found. 7. Turn to page 11 in your research packet for a model.

Parenthetical Citation 1. Locate and highlight one interesting quote and/or statistic that you would like to
incorporate into your introduction.
2. Identify whether the quote was retrieved from a book, encyclopedia, website, etc.
3. Decide if the quote/statistic will be a direct quote or paraphrased.
4. If it is a direct quote, rewrite the quote verbatim, but do not add a period. If you decide to paraphrase the quote, restate the quote in your own words, but do not add a period.
5. At the end of your quote, close the quotation marks, open the parenthesis, write the last name, add a comma, add the page number, close the parenthesis and add a period.
