Focus for the year ahead
In Year 6, the dedication to your child’s education at home,
as well as in school is of paramount importance. As towards the
end of Year 6, your child will be taking part in the National tests which are set by the
Government, to assess your child’s progress and attainment in Reading and Numeracy. These
tests are important for your child. Therefore, it is imperative that together we give your
child the best opportunity for the next stage in their education. We do ask that at home
your child completes homework consistently. This is a challenge for all children, but teaches
them essential skills to prepare them for the Secondary School and beyond. If your child
works hard at school and at home, together we will be able to give your child the best
possible chance to succeed to their full potential.
Attendance in school will lead to success this year. If your child is ill, we ask that they catch
up on the work missed as extra homework, as they will not have a chance to revisit missed
work during the school day.
Although this year is full of challenges, some quite difficult, there are so many positives and
rewards for hard work when we get to the Summer Term. There is our exciting residential
trip, prom celebrations, other trips out and many more exciting rewards in return for your
child’s hard work.

P.E. Kit P.E. is a compulsory part of the curriculum
and a chart is used to record those who do
not participate / forget their kit. It is
important that a proper school P.E. kit
(black shorts, white top & trainers) are
brought to school every Friday. If a kit is
not brought then the office rings home to
see if a kit can be brought in. Alternatively
a shared school kit will be provided.
Times Tables Rock Stars This year, the children have been
taking part in short times tables
activities online, Could you please
encourage this practice at home so
that children can continue to build on
improving their knowledge of
multiplication tables. Please ask for
your child’s login details if required.
The year ahead
I hope everyone has an
enjoyable summer break.
September will be the start of
a very exciting and busy year
for the children which will be
jam packed with lots of
interesting and fun activities.
Year 6 will begin the Autumn
term by learning about the
changing state of materials
including solids, liquids and
gases in our interesting theme
called ‘Potions’. We aim to
create our own cupcake
recipes and designs, with a
view to selling these just
before/after the half term
holiday. I look forward to
getting to know the children
better and I am sure that
they are going to be very
successful at all we try to
achieve.

After School Clubs During the Autumn term there will
be a wide variety of different after
school activities available to the
pupils in year 6. A good range of
indoor and outdoor clubs mean that
the children have plenty of
opportunities for developing skills
further.
