Welcome to Aunt Velda’s farm, Flat Stanley. I live a few miles outside of San Antonio in a very small town called Quihi (kweehee). The town is very old and was settled by people from Alsace-Lorraine which is in France on the border with Germany.
This is the old Quihi General Store. It was built in the 1850’s from stone. The road next to the farm and the store was once used by General Santa Ana’s men. General Santa Ana was the commander of the Mexican forces at the Battle of the Alamo. Aunt Velda is going to take you to the Alamo.
Can you see the rock and wood the old store is made from?
Come on in Flat Stanley!
We’d better get to work! There is a lot of work to do on the farm! Good job Flat Stanley! Thanks for feeding Cousin, the outdoor cat.
The onions in the garden need to be weeded and watered. Good job Flat Stanley!
Flat Stanley helps Aunt Velda repair the windmill. Good job Flat Stanley!
Windmills were used to pump water for people and animals before electricity was available.
The tractor is used to make work easier on the farm. We need to hitch up the wagon. Good job Flat Stanley!
Mr. Rooster looks hungry. Can you hear him crow? He wakes us up in the morning.
Mr. Rooster eats cracked corn. Good job Flat Stanley!
Lupe the pig eats pig feed. He lives in the pen next to the horse, Little Chick. The feed is in the shed. You sure are a great helper. Good job Flat Stanley!
Watch out Flat Stanley! The wind will blow your cowboy hat away!
Little Chick eats hay. And grass. The hay goes in the manger in the barn. Good job Flat Stanley!
Our trip to San Antonio was fun. We walked along the San Antonio River and saw the boats float under the bridge.
Flat Stanley waved at the people on the boat. Good job Flat Stanley!
Wow! The Alamo. The Alamo is an important place to all Texans. Col. William Barrett Travis, Davy Crockett, Jim Bowie and 184 defenders lost their lives in the fight for Texas independence from Mexico.
Thank you for visiting me in Texas, Flat Stanley. I hope you come back for another visit soon! There is always work to do on the farm.
