The Genesis of EPMAThe Finit Solutions SeriesThe Finit Solutions Series
• As the Hyperion products were developed as separate software packages and the industry started developing the concepts of Performance Management, a need to integrate these products became apparentintegrate these products became apparent.
• Before EPMA there was BPMA. The Business Performance Management Architect was released in version 9.3 and is the basis of the current EPMA product.
• EPMA primarily focuses on metadata management but also provides additionalEPMA primarily focuses on metadata management but also provides additional functionality. EPMA attempts to provides a single point of process development and maintenance that crosses various EPM applications (HFM, Planning, etc). Some if these processes are:
– Metadata maintenance
– Application Maintenance and Deployment
– Data Synchronization
– Business Rules
– Automations (Batch Scripts)
• Currently EPMA has capabilities that allow for all of these processes to be handled

Data SynchronizationThe Finit Solutions SeriesThe Finit Solutions Series
• EPMA provides functionality that allows for:– Movement of data across Hyperion Applications. For example:
y
yp pp p• Product to Product (same products Like Planning ‐> Planning)
• One Product to Another (i.e HFM ‐> Planning, Planning ‐> Essbase)
– Creation of mappings and filters.
– Layout of data flow maps.
• EPMA does not provide functionality for range mapping, dynamic / wildcard mapping or ignore logic during data loadwildcard mapping or ignore logic during data load
• Data Synchronization does not allow you to do basic transformation during the load of a data or metadata file like gEssbase Administrations Services and FDM allows. For example; Merge fields, perform Find and Replace of characters during a load, etc

Mapping and FiltersThe Finit Solutions SeriesThe Finit Solutions Series
• When mapping two Essbase cubes or a Planning Application with an Essbase cube, EPMA basically builds a data export calculation
pp g
, y pscript using the filters in the source as the “Fix Statement” in the calc script.
When mapping applications that have different number of dimensions ensure the application is aggregated to the
i t l l Oth i i t d t ill bappropriate levels. Otherwise incorrect data will be transferred.
When creating mappings, keep Essbase calculation performance in mind.

– Training cost of going directly into EPMA might be lower as the same metadata and data load techniques are used across all the EPMA supported productsproducts
– Maintenance cost could be lower as the number of objects to maintain could be less.
If you start with EPMA applications will not need to be upgrade in the future– If you start with EPMA applications will not need to be upgrade in the future

• Am I an existing client? – What benefits do I get from upgrading my applications to EPMA?

application maintenance.

• Does EPMA support the functionality I need today?
– What benefits do I get from starting to use Calculation Manager?• Documentation features on the calculations• Documentation features on the calculations.
• Less reliance on rule maintenance in programming languages. This may lead to a greater ability for more users to build and understand the calculations.
– Should I upgrade some of the applications but not allpg pp• You can have a mix of EPMA and Classic applications as part of your overall solution.
• This is a good way of getting your support staff up to speed with EPMA functionality.
