What is FRP grating?

• Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic grating is a composite material used in a wide array of construction industries.

• It consists of a mixture of fiberglass and resin that is made into one-piece panels or can be custom made to fit the unique shape of a floor.

Molded FRP Grating

Molded FRP grating is made using a mold where the glass is layered. These floor grates are less expensive than pultruded FRP floor grating, but have a much higher resin content giving them more corrosion resistance, although they have less structural load capacity.

Molded Fiberglass grating is ideal for corrosive environments with a lot of foot traffic, including wastewater treatment plants, industrial and chemical plants, corrosive environments like marine or urban locations, power plants, etc.

Pultruded FRP Grating

• These fiberglass floor grates are created by pulling glass strands through a machine, which are then sealed together into the desired shape.

• Pultruded fiberglass grating comes in a wide variety of shapes, thicknesses, and cross bar assemblies, depending on the load requirements of the application

Pultruded Grating consists of a series of parallel bearing bars. The bearing bars typically have a ‘T’ or ‘I’ shaped profile. The closer the bearing bars are together, the stronger the grating.

Pultruded can only bear weight in the direction of the bearing bears, while moulded grating can support weight from any direction.

Benefits of FRP Grating

•  Low Maintenance Cost – the fiberglass and resin component make the product very hard wearing, reducing the need to maintain it.

• Impact Resistant – the flexibility and high strength to weight ratio of FRP allows for a greater load bearing capacity.

• Reduced Installation Time – compared to other products, due to it being lightweight, FRP is easy to install which minimizes  the overall cost of construction.

• Corrosion Resistant – because steel is particularly susceptible to damage from the elements, FRP grating is a cost effective alternative, particularly in corrosive environments.
