promisesonwhichtostandashewouldleadthepeopleofGod.Amidstallthedifficultiesandtrialshewouldface,GodtoldJoshuatobestrongandcourageous,forGodwouldbewithHimeverystepofthejourneyahead.WearealsointroducedtoRahab,theprostituteandthegreat‐great‐grandmotherofKingDavid.ShetookinthespiesJoshuasentandofferedthemhidingandprotectionfromthekingofJerichoandhismen.Inexchangeforthisactofgrace,sheaskedthatherfamilybepreservedoncetheIsraelitestookthecity.Herrequestwasgrantedand,inGod’ssovereignty,shebecamepartofthelineofKingDavidand,ultimately,Jesus.TheBottomLine:GodpromisestobewithHispeopletoday,strengtheningthemandgivingthemcourageinthemostdifficultoftimesandcircumstances.Questions:Whatdoesitmeantobecourageous?Whowascourageousinthisstory?HowdidGodblessthosewhotrustedinHisleadershipintheirlives?HowcanyoucourageouslyobeyGod?

PRAYo C.A.R.:TheCentralAfricanRepublicwasaFrenchcolonypriortoitsindependencein1960.Sinceitsindependence,

thenationhasbeenplaguedwithcorruption,misrule,andseveralpoliticalupheavals.TheC.A.R.isamongoneofthepoorestcountriesintheworlddespitebeingalandrichinagriculture,water,andmineralresources. Itissaidthat67%ofthepopulationlivesonlessthan1dollaraday.Asaresultofpoliticalandnationalturmoil,anestimated300,000CentralAfricanshavebeenforcedtofleetheirhomes:198,000havebeeninternallydisplacedwhiletheother102,000havefledtoneighboringcountries.However,theC.A.R.hasseensomeeconomicgrowthinrecentyearswithamorestablegovernmentsituation.TheC.A.R.hasalsoreceivedanincreaseinhumanitariananddevelopmentaidinrecentyears.

o Thename“Emmanuel”means‘Godwithus.’Thissonggivesusachancetoreflectonthisassuringandempoweringtruth.Inthefirstverse,werecognizeGod’sunchanginggraceandfavoratworkinourlives.Inthesecondverse,werealizethepromiseofChristinMatthew28,tobewithusalwaysaswefulfilltheGreatCommission.ThechorusandbridgearedeclarationsofHisunwaveringandfaithfulpresencewithus.
