HOW DID YOU ATTRACT/ADDRESS YOUR AUDIENCE?EVALUATION QUESTION 5

TARGET AUDIENCEAs stated in the previous question, the target audience of my

music magazine is generally young adults aged 16-25 both male and female, therefore I had to make sure that the final product I created was suitable for this demographic and would address

them. Other magazine I looked at such as NME, Q and NYLON also target a similar audience, therefore I researched the ways

they addressed their audiences to help me.

MODELSOne way I addressed the younger audience was through the

models I used throughout my magazine. The cover model is a girl of similar age to the people who would be reading the magazine

(16-25) and therefore the audience are able to relate. Also, because my magazine is targeted at both males and females I

made sure to include images of male artists on the contents page so that I did not limit the demographic to just females.

COLOUR SCHEMEThe colour scheme of my magazine also reflects the fact that this

is a unisex magazine. The shades of red I used were not too feminine or vibrant and the blacks and grey provided a suitable

balance for the red, which would attract both males and females, unlike a magazine such as NYLON which is clearly aimed at just

females through the bright, vibrant colours used throughout.

PHOTOGRAPHYEven though the cover model is female I did not want this to limit the demographic to just females, therefore I made sure the mise en scene and overall look of the artist was not overly feminine. I achieved this through the costume of the model; she is wearing

suspenders and denim jeans, which are stereotypically quite masculine, yet I kept some femininity through the red nail polish

and jewellery she is wearing (visible on the cover image).

MUSIC GENRE

I wanted to have quite a wide, mainstream audience and did not want to create a magazine that was aimed at people who like just one specific genre of music, therefore it was important to include various different

genres of music, especially on the front cover, as this is the first thing the consumers would see. Therefore, I used the results from the

questionnaire I created to discover the most popular genres of music for younger people (Alternative and R&B) used that as a basis for what type of content to include. As you can see on the cover I have featured a wide range of artists and bands from Bon Iver, an indie folk band to Lana Del

Rey who is a much more mainstream artist.
