What is an essay?
Essay can be defined as:
A short piece of writing on a particular subject. A way to get students to look deeper at their own
ideas to a particular idea whether the topic is given or created by oneself.
A short piece of writing that test students skills in reading,analysis,persuasion and exposition.
The purpose of an essay
Simply to develop new ideas and concepts through writing.
3 steps of essay writing
What did you eat for breakfast, lunch and supper yesterday?
You ate because you wanted energy right? It is the same with essay writing. There are
three crucial steps that need to be done in order for the essay to be effective.

Three stages include introduction, body and conclusion. When you meet a friend for the first time what do you do? By telling them your name it means you are introducing yourself.
The 3 simple steps of an essay
An essay is divided into 3 sections
Introduction
Body
Conclusion

Lets start with an introductionIn an introduction you set the issue up by giving a very brief outline of what you are going to discuss in your essay.

ConclusionGive a summary of all the things that you have talked about in the whole essay. Do not introduce new ideas in this stage.
This means that altogether you have to write five paragraphs, so that we can have a full essay.

Types of essays

Descriptive essay
This is an essay whereby a student must describe a person ,place,object,emotion etc.
These are helpful for telling stories about an event or experience using imagery
Narrative essay
These types of essays are anecdotal,experential and personal, they allow the writer to make the essay to express themselves.
They tell a story, usually in a first person point of view.
Argumentative (persuasive)essay
This type of an essay is meant to persuade the reader into the writers standpoint on an issue.
They inform about an idea but they are for one side over another.they state and defend a claim
Expository essay
This is an essay whereby a student must research an idea, evaluate what they learned and make an argument of that idea.
