1. Dog bites in Rubengera Health Center, Karongi District

Eleven  dog  bites  cases  were  reported  from  Rubengera  HC  of  Kibuye  District  Hospital  in  Karongi  district.    Eight  of  them  were  children  

aged  less  than  15  years  while  three  were  adults.  All  of  them  were  from  Rubengera  sector    and  were  transferred  to  the  district  hospital  for  post  exposure  prophylaxis.  The  bites  were  by  three  different  unknown  dogs,  one  of  which  was  later  killed  by  the  community.  

2. National upsurge

in malaria cases

There  has  been  a  steady  increase  in  

the  number  of  malaria  cases  reported  country-wide  during  the  last  12  weeks.  As  seen  in  figure  1,  the  number  of  all  ma-laria  cases  increased  from  14,747  in  week  32  (early  August)  to  54,424  in  week  43.  A  total  of  327,  814  cases  were  reported  during  the  12-­week  period.  Eight  districts  (figure  2)  accounted  for  50%  (164,833)  of  the  malaria  cases  reported  during  same    period.

COMPLETENESS AND TIMELI-NESS

- For Public Health Facilities Com-pleteness: 93.3% Timeliness: 71.5%

- For Privates Health Facilities Com-pleteness: 54.7 % Timeliness: 40.4 %

- Overall Completeness: 84.6 % Timeliness: 64.5 %

Poor reporting (low timeliness) cath-ment area: Ruhengeri, Gihundwe and Gakoma with 17.6%, 33.3 % and 33.3 % of timeliness respectively while the well reporting catchment area: Ngara-ma, Kinihira, Ruli, Rutongo, Bushenge and Muhororo hospitals each with 100 % timeliness.

• Flu syndrome: 19,428 cases

• Non-bloody Diarrhoea: 3,985 cases

Highlight of the week

Week 11 from 13rd to 19th March, 2017

Nyanza hospital, 2 cases from Kabusunzu HC of Muhima Hospital and one case each from Murunda hospital, Rambura HC of Shyira hospital, Ruhuha HC of Nyamata, Kinyababa HC of Butaro hospital, Remera mbogo HC of Rutongo hospital, Gihundwe HC, Nyamure HC of Nyanza hospital, Nyamiyaga HC of NYnaza hospital and Bubangu HC of Rutongo hospital.

• Meningoccoccal Miningitis: Two suspected case of Miningococcal meningitis were noti-fied one case each from Ngarama and Kibungo hospitals

• Dog bites (rabies exposure): 29 cases of dog bites (rabies exposure) were notified, 7 cases from Mugonero hospital, 5 cases from Cyanika HC of Kigeme hospital, 3 cases from Byumba Hospital, 3 cases from Kibilizi hospital, 2 cases from Kigeme hospital, 2 cases from Kibogora hospital, 2 cases from Gihundwe hospital, one case each from Kiziguro hospital, Murunda hospital, Kibuye hospital, Butaro hospital and Mubuga HC of Kigeme hospital.

• Typhoid fever: 14 suspected cases of Typhoid fever were notified including 6 cases from Butaro hospital, 4 cases from Mahama refugee camp, 3 cases from Byumba hospital and one case from CHUK.

Summary of deaths reported nationally: 6 deaths notified countrywide

Three deaths due to Malaria were notified one death each from Kibungo, Gitwe and Gihundwe Hospitals. Three deaths due to severe pneumonia under five years were noti-fied from Kibagabaga DH (2 deaths) and Cyarubare HC of Rwink-wavu hospital (one death).

Trend of four priority diseases with highest morbidity in 2017: The figures (on page 2) shows the cases of the highest morbidity through e-IDSR notifed during the first 11 weeks of 2017, those in-clude Malaria, Influenza like illness, Non blood diarrhea and severe pneumonia under five years.
