The programmeAll over the world, the key to successful business is more and more based on the performance of your Human Resource or Human Capital. International organizations and their staff continually need to adapt to shifts in the external environment and have to feel ‘at home’ anywhere in the world. The pro-gramme is aimed at advancing the understanding of human behaviour in the workplace and the con- tribution of Human Resource (HR) policies and prac-tices to the effectiveness of organizations.
You will certainly have to understand your com- pany’s strategy to cope with the fast changing
new work environment on e.g. leadership, organisa- tion, human resource and advisory skills. During the fourth year students will complete an internship and
write their Bachelor thesis within an international orien-ted organisation.
Bachelor HRM: Short Degree ProgrammeSaxion’s Short Degree Programme Human Resource Management builds on the previous education of the student. Saxion offers the latest insights and knowledge in business (change) strategies, international HRM strate-gies, advanced intercultural communication techniques & skills and a thorough understanding of primary business processes. Students who enrol in the Short Degree Programme will either follow a one-year or a two-year programme depending on their previous education. Soft skillsSimply attending class and acquiring knowledge is not enough. The internationally operating HR specialist is expected to know how to share this knowledge with
environments. And within this dynamic and rapidly changing environment, your personal knowledge, skills, competences and understanding how to co-operate with business managers are extremely important to ensure the organizations, and human resource “ fit” to all internal and external changes.
The business can expect from you a thorough under-standing of business-oriented HR and an adequate translation of the international (corporate) strategy into relevant and modern HR policies and procedures. As you have profound knowledge of change processes you will be a well trained professional with a broad set of culturally adapted skills and demonstrate a professional approach as a sparring partner of the management.
Four, two or one year?Saxion University of Applied Sciences offers an interna-tional acknowledged four-year Bachelor programme and an international acknowledged Short Degree Pro-gramme HRM: a one- or two-year programme.
Bachelor IHRM: four year programme During the first year students get in depth knowledge of the relationship between human behaviour, work and organisations and human resource at organisations. During the second year the emphasis is on understan-ding human resource management in relation to busi-ness disciplines and principles. During the third year students will learn how to approach HR from a strategic angle and how to guide organisation through periods of change. Students will also learn the principles of the
others and use this knowledge in the world. A lot of at-tention is dedicated to the personal development of the student in this international setting. Multinational team building and acquiring a variety of communication skills by means of training sessions, like negotiating, influen-cing techniques, presentations, management skills and project-based working are part of the programme.
CoachingDuring your studies, you don’t have to do it all by yourself. A coach will help you find your way in the Netherlands and in our school. He will also supervise you in making sure you are successful in your studies and will take a look at your future career prospects to-gether with you. During project work and when writing your graduation thesis you are coached on content as well as on the process.
Practically orientedSaxion works with competence oriented and problem guided teaching. This means that in your studies theory and practical experience are merged together, when-ever possible. Practical cases follow the theory. Therefore, it is possible that you have to put yourself in the position of an HR assistant in the first year and several months later in the position of an HR advisor at a large international company or an HR organisational specialist for a multinational. You may also explore the differences between HR instruments in various coun-tries and develop a new training system. For a medium-sized company in a border town you may develop a protocol for an upcoming merger and advice how to handle differences in culture, whether or not to restruc-ture departments and how to adapt the payroll. Together with your team mates you report, advice and analyse, in which we can recognise the international operating HR business professional of the future. We support you with lectures, practical classes, seminars, (manage-ment) games and excursions. At the end of every period your knowledge is tested extensively.
Is global thinking just right for you? Would you like to learn more about the key to the success of an organization; the
Human Resources? Do you want to experience intercultural differences, work in an
organisation operating internationally and develop new approaches to HRM? Then the
Human Resource Management programme at Saxion University of Applied Sciences is an
excellent choice for you!
graduatedThis programme is offered in English and gives you
the possibility to study at a University which has won
its spurs internationally with high-profile education.
Typical for our programme is the immediate relation
between theory and practical experience. The In-
ternational Human Resource Management (IHRM)
programme forms an excellent basis for a career in an
international Human Resources business environment
in your home country or far abroad. You can continue
your education with a Master’s programme at a Dutch
or foreign university.

“Choosing Saxion to continue my education was one of the best decisions I have ever made. The design
of the courses at Saxion is focused on making student’s transition from an academic to a career path
as smooth as possible. In addition Saxion is a very international university. An important part is
the opportunity for extracurricular activities, such as forums and conferences. During my studies I
participated in an international forum held in the EU Parliament in Brussels, Belgium. In the program
we took workshops with actual EU parliament members. If I had to choose my university again,
I would definitely still choose to study at Saxion. To this day I still use knowledge acquired at Saxion.
I am currently operating my own international business and pursuing a master’s degree.”
