Abstract

TheCenterofExcellenceinRemoteSensingEducationandResearch(CERSER)onthecampusofElizabethCityStateUniversityisafoundingmemberofSGCIledbySanDiegoSupercomputingCenterandtheScienceGatewaysCommunityInstitute(SGCI).OneofthefiveareasofSGCIistheWorkforceDevelopmentledbyDr.LindaHayden.WorkforceDevelopmentaimstonurturethenextgenerationofgatewayusersanddevelopersandengagethepotentialofstudentsfromunderrepresentedgroups.

Abstract

Assciencetodaygrowsincreasinglycomputerbased,itposeschallengesandopportunitiesforresearchers.Scientistsandengineersareturningtogatewaystoallowthemtoanalyze,share,andunderstandlargevolumesofdatamoreeffectively.Theexistenceofscienceandengineeringgatewaysandthesophisticatedcyberinfrastructure(CI)toolstogethercansignificantlyimprovetheproductivityofresearchers.Mostimportantly,sciencegatewayscangiveuniformaccesstothecyberinfrastructurethatenablescutting-edgescience.

ThegoalofthewebdevelopmentteamwastoincreasetheinteractivityoftheSGCIYoungProfessionalssitetoattractpotentialmembersanddisseminateinformation.ThiswascompletedutilizingWordPressWidgetstoprovidegraphicalandinteractivecomponents.Bootstrapcomponents(HTML,CSS,andJavaScript)werealsoresearchedfortheirinclusionintothecurrentWordPressContentManagementSystem(CMS)andthefutureLiferay CMS.
