Energy Psychology Essentials™ Introduction

Background Some truly exciting new upgrades in the field of psychology have been unfolding over the last

couple of decades that are beginning to align psychology with the stunning discoveries that have

been made over the past 75 years in the field of quantum physics. Energy Psychology is among

such innovations leading the way into twenty-first century psychotherapy, appearing to provide

rapid, reliable and lasting intervention of a broadening range of psychological issues through

utilizing some of the principles of quantum physics.

Despite having been involved with integrative health and spiritual psychology since the mid 1970s,

I had to battle with the classically trained clinical psychologist part of me to put aside my great

reluctance and skepticism in order to attend my first Energy Psychology training program in 1995.

This proved to be the beginning of a quite unexpected odyssey that resulted in my becoming the

Founding President of the Association for Comprehensive Energy Psychology in 1999. This non-

profit organization has since grown into the preeminent international leader in helping the Energy

Psychology field mature and expand its visibility. I retired as ACEP‟s Founding President in 2002

only to return to help create, consult and be a trainer for ACEP‟s certification programs.

Prior to co-founding ACEP, I had developed the first training program in Energy Psychology

methods that was granted Continuing Education credit in California‟s highly selective Mandatory

Continuing Education Program for Psychologists. One aspect of my leadership commitment as

ACEP‟s Founding President was to obtain in-depth training in as many Energy Psychology methods

as my time and energy allowed. The list of methods in which I have been trained is too long to

include here, but I mention this because part of my mission was to distill the common ingredients

among the various methods. My gift as an innovator is not developing completely new methods but

rather in integrating multiple theories or methods into a unified superstructure.

Energy Psychology Essentials™ is the result of my integration efforts in the field of Energy

Psychology, which remains to this day but one of my areas of professional and personal interest.

Mastering the Energy Psychology Essentials™ superstructure appears to enable practitioners to

become excellent Energy Psychology practitioners and troubleshooters. This superstructure also

seems to provide practitioners with a big-picture understanding that makes it much easier integrate

future training many choose to receive in specialized Energy Psychology methods. I hope that you

Energy Psychology Essentials™ training provides you with these benefits and much more!

What is Energy Psychology? Energy Psychology (EP) is the name of a recently-emerging family of mind-body integrative

interventions that appear to rapidly and durably intervene with a range of psychological and

spiritual issues, from phobias, trauma and limiting beliefs, to peak performance and creativity. EP

methods accomplish this through combining conventional psychotherapeutic principles with

explicitly and methodically rebalancing aspects of the human vibrational matrix. This matrix may

include over a half dozen inter-related systems, the most well-known of which are the layers of the

electromagnetic biofield (the energetic envelope surrounding and permeating the body), chakras

(centers of concentrated bioenergy) and meridians (pathways through which electromagnetic

information flows through the body, along with access points referred to in traditional Chinese

medicine as acupoints). A somewhat oversimplified way to think about EP procedures is to view

them as acupuncture for the emotions, but without the needles. These methods and innovations have

already been applauded by the likes of self-help gurus Wayne Dyer & Tony Robbins, self-esteem

expert Nathaniel Brandon, renowned physicists such as William Tiller and best-selling

microbiologist Candace Pert.

Three Core Varieties of Psychoenergetic Dimensions are Addressed by Energy Psychology One straightforward way to describe the key elements of the psychospiritual growth process is

through the famous phrase, “Ready, willing and able.” EP methods address all three of these

dimensions in elegant new ways that, so far, appear to be more effective, rapid and lasting than

most psychotherapeutic methods that have existed before now.

Readiness is established through removing any existing Systemic Energetic Interference preventing

successful intervention of specific psychological issues. Think of trying to tune in TV or radio to a

specific station, but the antenna can‟t pick up the signal and all you get it white noise. This

intervention dimension is about psychoenergetically preparing a person‟s system to efficiently

respond to intervention.

Willingness is established through removing any Psychoenergetic Objections to intervention

success with a specific issue. Think of an image of someone with their goal sitting right beside

them, but who is instead giving energy to their fears about succeeding. This intervention dimension

is about securing psychoenergetic permission to succeed with intervention.

Ability is facilitated through Resonance Recalibration, in which a person‟s energetic resonance with

blockages interfering with a goal they have (baggage, blocks, undigested life experiences, or

limiting beliefs, for instance) is neutralized, and their „magnetics‟ with their desired goal are

amplified. Think of an image of someone whose resonance or magnetics to any baggage that had

kept them from their goal has completely faded and in its place is a strong unimpeded resonance or

magnetic that enhances their ability to manifest their goal. In short, then, Energy Psychology

methods provide specific energy system rebalancing procedures that seem to be helping increasing

numbers of people to “ready, willing and able” to reach their desired goals.

An Abridged List of Members of the Energy Psychology Family

Meridian-based Energy Psychology interventions are derived from disciplines that include

Goodheart‟s “Applied Kinesiology®

” and derivatives, Thie‟s “Touch for Health®” and Rochlitz‟s

“Physicist‟s Rapid Solution.” Energy Psychology interventions include such disciplines as

Diamond‟s “Behavioral Kinesiology,” Callahan‟s “Thought Field Therapy,” Durlacher‟s “Acu-

POWER,” Nicosia‟s “Thought Energy Synchronization Therapy®

and ThoughtWorks Creation®,”

Gallo‟s “Energy Diagnostic & Intervention Methods®” and “Negative Affect Elimination Method,”

Craig‟s “Emotional Freedom Technique,” Fleming‟s “Tapas Acupressure Technique®,” Nims‟ “Be

Set Free Fast™” Method, Clinton‟s “Seemorg Matrix Work (now called Advanced Integrative

Therapy)”, Swack‟s “Healing From the Body Level Up™”, Hahn‟s “Guided Self-Healing™,”

Whisenant‟s “Psychological Kinesiology,” Dennison‟s “Educational Kinesiology,” Teplitz‟s &

Dennison‟s “Brain Gym®

,” Eden‟s Energy Medicine, and a wide range of other associated methods.

Chakra- and Biofield-based Energy Psychology interventions include Healing Touch and

Psychoenergetic Balancing, and their antecedents, inc., Krieger & Kunz, Brennan and Bruyere.

The names of some of these disciplines are trademarked, while the names of others (such as TFT)

are not.

Energy Psychology Essentials™ seeks to honor those contributions by combining these pioneers‟

discoveries into a coherent and parsimonious structure that guides effective intervention. EPE

combines elements from a number of these emerging offshoots of Kinesiology, Meridian Therapy,

Biofield Therapy and Chakra Therapy disciplines into a cohesive, replicable protocol for

intervening with a wide range of mind-body-spirit issues.

I hold in my heart profound amounts of gratitude and credit for these grandparents and parents of

Energy Psychology field, and I hope you will too.

EPE™ Element 4 Profile: Permission to Succeed

SPECIFICATION DESCRIPTION

What is it? This step is about establishing that the person has provided

permission, psychospiritually, emotionally and physioenergetically, to

succeed in addressing the Priority Treatment Focus (PTF) in service

of achieving the intention identified as the Priority Goal (PG).

What is it for? Addressing objections to change. These methods can and probably

should be used prior to any intervention, whether EP-oriented or not.

Background Obtaining permission to intervene with is a time-honored tradition

across virtually all healing methods. Change almost inevitably

involves risk. A desired change that has not already occurred

absolutely invariably involves risk. If someone is not already

embodying a PG, they by definition carry objections to fully living

that intention. If someone has not already „cleared‟ a PTF that

interferes with embodying a PG, they by definition carry objections to

being free of that blockage. In EP interventions the issue of

permission takes on added significance in that if the person‟s energy

system is resists being recalibrated regarding the PG or PTF then it is

much more difficult for EP interventions to succeed. The original

framing in the EP field for these objections was called Psychological

Reversals (PRs). Later that term was amended by some and renamed

Psychoenergetic Reversals. Even so, this terminology remains

confusing in some circles and downright objectionable in others. As a

result, fewer and fewer practitioners use either term. As well, the

original procedures for diagnosing and intervening with

psychoenergetic „objections to success‟ have evolved in numerous EP

methods beyond the original PR interventions and into the notion of

“permission.” This concept is far more understandable and palatable

to more people than Psychological Reversals, and I also believe it

goes to the heart of what generates PRs anyway. Thus Permission to

Succeed is offered in Energy Psychology Essentials™ in place of

Psychological Reversals.

How is it done? Permission to Succeed is obtained in EP Essentials™ through

assessing what‟s at risk if one succeeds in making the desired change,

and what‟s at risk if one instead continues to maintain the status quo,

and then intervening with to either „clear‟ the objections or to

establish the ability to hold the two sets of risks side by side with

grace while choosing change anyway.

Step 4 Using Energy Checking: Establish Willingness (Permission) to Succeed With Intervention

Background: The History & Evolution of “Psychological Reversals”

The first generation of Psychological Reversals was initially discovered and explored by Roger

Callahan and John Diamond during their brief period of attempting to collaborate with one another.

Callahan coined the term Psychological Reversal and Diamond coined the term “Reversal of the

Body Morality.” These are not identical, but they are similar. (For more information on this read the

latest edition of Fred Gallo‟s text, Energy Psychology.)

Students of Diamond‟s and/or Callahan‟s, most notably James Durlacher, D.C., Fred Gallo, Ph.D.

and Gregory Nicosia, Ph.D., expanded on the initial understandings about reversals, cataloguing

varieties of reversals not initially identified by Callahan and Diamond. Fred Gallo talks about

“Criterion-Related” PRs in his text, Energy Psychology. These are also defined and discussed in

David Feinstein‟s Energy Psychology Interactive CD.

Subsequent to Durlacher‟s, Gallo‟s and Nicosia‟s further elucidations of Psychological Reversals, I

coined (in 1998) the term Psychoenergetic Reversal, having found that these reversals did not

always appear to be psychological in nature, but rather sometimes seemed to simply be held in the

person‟s energy system.

THE CLASSICAL WAY OF DIAGNOSING & INTERVENING WITH PSYCHOENERGETIC

REVERSALS: A CONCEPTUAL INTRODUCTION

The existence of a PR can be easily assessed by doing Energy Checking with the contrasting PR

statements. When the client tests reversed from what they would want to test, you‟ve found a PR.

When this is the case, the classic way to proceed is to have the person stimulate a specific energy

intervention point while repeating a self-acceptance affirmation three times (for instance, “Even

though I have this problem I deeply and completely love and accept myself.”) There is nothing

magic about the number “three.” It‟s simply that the amount of time it ordinarily takes to intervene

with a PR roughly corresponds to the amount of time it takes a person to repeat the affirmation three

times.

In my view, there are three major categories of PRs: “Global,” “Issue-Specific” and “Completely.”

These are defined below. Detailed instructions for diagnosing and intervening with the most

frequently mentioned PRs are in the final section of this module.

1. Global PRs (gPRs): These PRs are generalized rather than issue-specific. Two examples are, “I

want to be happy/miserable” and “I want to live/die.” In other words, gPRs are systemic rather

than being exclusively related to any one specific intervention focus. Because of this, you might

recall that gPRs are addressed as part of the Systemic Energetic Interference module.

2. Issue-Specific PRs (sPRs): These are PRs that may arise in a person in relation to the specific

issue being intervene withed. Two examples are: “I deserve/don‟t deserve to be over this issue”

and “It‟s safe/not safe for me to be over this issue.” “Undeservingness” and “unsafety” are two

out of the four major Disorientation Fears addressed in this module.

Page 8: Energy Psychology Essentials™ Volume 1 … · Energy Psychology Essentials ... and which may need to work through in psychotherapy with the practitioner of your choice. ... chakras

page 7

3. PRs at the “Completely” Level (cPRs): These types of PRs can surface during the course of

intervening with the issue itself as a result of making forward progress. Their content is the

same as sPRs (see immediately above). The only difference is that cPRs arise during the

intervention itself, in contrast to addressing PRs while establishing Willingness to Succeed prior

to beginning to intervene with the selected issue. When an objection arises while intervention is

progressing, it is at that point about being completely over the issue or completely manifesting

the desired goal. In other words, cPRs say it‟s okay to make some progress, but it‟s not okay to

be completely successful. The cPR forms of the sPRs examples I used above are: “I

deserve/don‟t deserve to be completely over this issue” and “It‟s safe/not safe for me to be over

completely this issue.”

This module goes well beyond these classical ways of diagnosing and intervening with PRs,

containing the latest developments in what has until now been referred to in the EP field as

“reversals:” establishing Willingness to Succeed through identifying and intervening with the

Disorientation Fear resulting in a person objecting, psychologically or energetically, to succeeding

with intervention.

A NOTE ABOUT PARTS & INTROJECTS

It is not necessarily our entire self who objects to „clearing‟ an issue, or to fully embodying an

upgrade.

Most often it‟s only specific parts of us that hold an objection. When this is confirmed (via

Energy Checking), the reversal intervention wording can be modified: “Even if a part of me

[doesn‟t feel it‟s safe for me] to get over this issue, I deeply and completely love and accept

myself, including this part of me.”

Parts we carry that are not us but are something we carry from someone else (that is, introjects),

can also hold an objection. When this is confirmed (via Energy Checking), the reversal

intervention wording can be modified: “Even if an introject [from my mother] [doesn‟t feel it‟s

safe for me] to get over this issue, I deeply and completely love and accept myself, and I release

myself from loyalty to this introject’s objection.”

The Two Main Blocks to the Willingness to Succeed

Today the leading edge in what has grown out of our initial understandings of Psychoenergetic

Reversals is that PRs are objections to intervention success. These objections appear to fall into two

categories:

1. Disorientation Fear: This is the fear that if intervention succeeds, my understandings of

myself, others or how the universe works might be altered in ways that feel too scary to handle.

Disorientation Fear is what keeps the status quo locked in place even when maintaining the

status quo doesn‟t serve our highest good. Disorientation Fear is covered in more detail in this

module.

2. Not „understanding‟ the intervention issue, consciously or unconsciously, at a level that

makes it possible for that issue to be successfully treated. (How to assess and intervene with this

issue is covered in the Priority Treatment Method section of the Energy Psychology Essentials

Volume 2 training manual.)

Page 9: Energy Psychology Essentials™ Volume 1 … · Energy Psychology Essentials ... and which may need to work through in psychotherapy with the practitioner of your choice. ... chakras

page 8

Disorientation Fear: The Relationship Between Willingness to Succeed and Psychological/Psychoenergetic Reversals

1. The more consistent & predictable things are, the safer people feel.

2. Change scares us because it disorients our sense of identity & view of how the world works

(our paradigm).

3. Disorientation Fear is an apt term for what is at the core of the fear of change: “It may be hell

but it‟s home.”

4. Speed Potentiates Disorientation Fear (DF): The faster a change or healing method works,

the greater Disorientation Fear is likely to become.

5. Energy Psychology Methods Work Fast: The speed of change/healing with EP is so fast that

it is perhaps more crucial to identify & intervene with Disorientation Fear before proceeding

with these methods than with any other methods currently available.

6. Psychological Reversal (PR) was a concept developed by early two innovators in the EP field

(John Diamond, MD & Roger Callahan, Ph.D.) as ways to identify & intervene with what they

did not explicitly identify as Disorientation Fear.

7. Getting to the Core of Psychological/Psychoenergetic Reversals: The Energy Psychology

field‟s exploration of PRs has expanded our understanding of DF. As a result it is possible to

move beyond the term and concepts about PRs into a fuller understanding of the nature of

willingness to change and objections to change (i.e., Disorientation Fear).

MORE ABOUT THE CONNECTION BETWEEN DISORIENTATION FEAR, OBJECTIONS &

PSYCHOENERGETIC REVERSALS (PRS)

Objections, then, are reservations about being successful in intervening with a particular issue. An

objection is a block that will sabotage successful intervention of a specific issue unless it is

intervene withed prior to intervening with the issue itself. (Note: Sometimes objections surface – or

resurface – while intervening with the issue itself. When this occurs, they need to be treated or re-

treated at that time.)

Objections to success are caused by “Disorientation Fear.” In other words, we object to getting over

a problem, or to fully manifesting a desired state, because succeeding will be too disorienting to be

handled…either by ourselves (I won‟t know who I am) and/or others (they won‟t know how to react

to me or my changes will scare them because of calling them into dealing with something inside

themselves, thus disorienting them).

A Psychoenergetic Reversal (PR) (originally called a Psychological Reversal) is the original Energy

Psychology term for how an objection becomes apparent through Energy Checking. In other

words, PRs are how the existence of Disorientation Fear is assessed through Energy Checking.

Non-polarization (Systemic Energetic Interference) exists when a person‟s Energy Checking

doesn‟t differentiate between responses. In contrast, when a person is “reversed,” s/he does have

contrasting Energy Checking responses to contrasting statements or questions. However, these

responses will be the opposite from what the client would like to be true for him/her. For instance, a

person might have come to you wanting to be over some problem, but when you muscle test

him/her, s/he tests weak on “I want to be over this problem” and strong on “I want to keep this

problem.” This is the essence of what we in the Energy Psychology field have classically called a

Psychoenergetic Reversal.

Page 10: Energy Psychology Essentials™ Volume 1 … · Energy Psychology Essentials ... and which may need to work through in psychotherapy with the practitioner of your choice. ... chakras

page 9

The Essence of “Unwillingness to Succeed:” What’s at Risk If Intervention Succeeds & If Intervention Fails?

The very existence of a goal means that it has not yet fully manifested. The very existence of an

intervention issue means that there is something blocking the manifestation of that goal. The very

existence of a block to manifesting a goal means that there are risks in manifesting it. Therefore,

whenever someone has not already manifested an intention, it is by definition because there are

risks involved in succeeding. If there weren‟t, the intention would already have manifested!

Because of this, addressing objections to success is a key component in helping ensure the success

of all intervention methods, including and especially Energy Psychology methods. Establishing

willingness to succeed is the essence of what historically has been called in Energy Psychology

circles “Psychological Reversals” (PRs). Understanding the nature of objections to success has

enabled the Energy Psychology field to evolve beyond our initial understanding of PRs into what

may be more straightforward and elegant ways to establish willingness to succeed.

There appear to be four major categories of objections/excuses people tend to have when they don't

find within themselves sufficient willingness to succeed at removing a block and/or embodying a

desired intention:

1. Unsafety: The client fears that something unsafe might happen to him/her if a piece of baggage

is cleared and/or if s/he succeeds at embodying a desired intention, goal or state. Therefore, the

client‟s energy system won‟t allow him/her to succeed with the intervention.

2. Undeservingness: Part of the client believes s/he doesn‟t deserve to be over a problem or

trauma or wound and/or to fully embody a desired intention, goal or state. Therefore, the client‟s

energy system won‟t allow him/herself to succeed with the intervention.

3. Codependence: Part of the client fears it might be unsafe for someone else if s/he gets over

problem or trauma or wound and/or fully embodies a desired intention, goal or state, AND that

it is the client‟s responsibility to keep that person safe, even if this means not succeeding with

the intervention. This objection is often connected with dysfunctional loyalty scripts people tend

to carry, usually from their original family.

4. Vengeance: Part of the client believes that if s/he gets over problem or trauma or wound and/or

fully embodies a desired intention, goal or state, then this will mean that someone else got away

with having hurt him/her, and that this cannot be allowed. Therefore, proving that someone else

did something awful to them (or even other loved ones) is important enough to not succeed with

intervention (no matter how much the client tries or says s/he wants to succeed).

The protocols on the following pages provide you with step-by-step instructions for addressing

these four key “objections” categories.

Page 11: Energy Psychology Essentials™ Volume 1 … · Energy Psychology Essentials ... and which may need to work through in psychotherapy with the practitioner of your choice. ... chakras

page 10

“Willingness to Succeed” Protocol, Option 1 (Quicker but Less ‘Rich’): Modified Psychoenergetic Reversal Intervention Procedure for Intervening with Disorientation Fear

1. Master Energy Check Question: “All of me is 100% willing to (completely) succeed with

intervening with this issue at this time.” versus “Some part of me has an objection to

(completely) succeeding with intervening with this issue at this time.” (Please note that the word

“completely” is in parentheses in these testing statements as well as the ones below, as a

reminder to include that word when you are intervening with objections that surface or resurface

while intervening with the issue itself during the “Able” step in the EPE™ protocol.)

2. Specific Objection Assessment Questions & Interventions: Check the following four

categories of objections (Disorientation Fears), one at a time. When you find the first objection,

intervene with it immediately without checking to see if there are more objections. Then go to

step three, again before checking to find out if there are any other objections. The reason for this

is efficiency: even if there is initially more than one objection, frequently clearing one objection

will also clear one or more other objections. So, when you find your first objection, go

immediately to step three.

a. UNSAFETY:

Energy Checking Assessment: “It‟s unsafe for some part of me to be (completely) over

this problem/embody this goal.” versus “It‟s safe for all of me to be (completely) over this

problem/embody this goal.” (Optional: When this objection exists, ask the client what might

happen if intervening with this issue is successful. This specificity can sometimes help the

objection clear more easily. Examples of unsafety include fearing even admitting to having

this problem, fearing that certain life changes will become necessary if intervention succeed,

fearing one will lose one‟s sense of identity if intervention succeeds, or fearing that one‟s

beliefs about how the world works, how healing works, or their relationship with spirituality

will be challenged if intervention succeeds, or fearing with it might mean if healing in

general or healing this issue in specific were possible. These are all examples of

Disorientation Fear.)

Intervention: While client is tapping side of hand to side of hand, have him/her repeat the

following affirmation three times – “Even though it‟s unsafe for parts of me to be

(completely) over this problem/embody this goal, I deeply and profoundly love and accept

myself.”

Check Results: Repeat the “unsafety” Energy Checking assessment procedure above to

make sure this objection is now cleared. When it is, immediately go to step three. (If it isn‟t,

repeat intervention with client rubbing the NLR spot on the heart side of the chest – see

diagram. If this doesn‟t work, do a complete “9 gamut sandwich” while repeating the

affirmation in the intervention step above or energy check to assess a custom meridian or

chakra intervention point – see last page of module for chakra interventions – and re-do the

intervention above using that point. If these don‟t work either, use the more detailed

intervention protocol on the previous page in place of this intervention protocol.)

Page 12: Energy Psychology Essentials™ Volume 1 … · Energy Psychology Essentials ... and which may need to work through in psychotherapy with the practitioner of your choice. ... chakras

page 11

b. UNDESERVINGNESS: Energy Checking Assessment: “Some part of me feels it doesn‟t or I don‟t deserve to be

(completely) over this problem/embody this goal.” versus “All of me feels I deserve to be

(completely) over this problem/embody this goal.” (Optional: When this objection exists,

ask the client why s/he might not deserve to succeed with this intervention. This specificity

can sometimes help the objection clear more easily.)

Intervention: While client is tapping under his/her lower lip (ul) alternating left and right

fingers to do the tapping, have him/her repeat the following affirmation three times – “Even

though parts of me feel they don‟t deserve to be (completely) over this problem/embody this

goal, I deeply and profoundly love and accept myself.”

Check Results: Repeat the “undeservingness” Energy Checking assessment procedure

above to make sure this objection is now cleared. When it is, immediately go to step three.

(If it isn‟t, repeat intervention with client tapping side of hand to side of hand or rubbing the

NLR spot on the heart side of the chest – see diagram. If neither of these work, either do a

complete “9 gamut sandwich” while repeating the affirmation in the intervention step above

or energy check to assess a custom meridian or chakra intervention point – see last page of

module for chakra interventions – and re-do the intervention above using that point. If these

don‟t work either, use the more detailed intervention protocol on the previous page in place

of this intervention protocol.)

c. CODEPENDENCE: Assessment: “It‟s unsafe for someone for me to be (completely) over this problem/embody

this goal.” versus “I‟m willing to be (completely) over this problem/embody this goal even if

it‟s unsafe for anyone else for me to succeed.” (When this objection exists, ask the client

who the person is/people are, and confirm this with Energy Checking. Optional: also ask

what would be unsafe for that person if your client succeeded with intervening with this

issue.)

Intervention: While client is tapping side of hand to side of hand, have him/her repeat the

following affirmation three times – “Even if it‟s unsafe for ______ for me to be (completely)

over this problem/embody this goal, I now free him/her to deal with my healing in whatever

way s/he needs to.”

Check Results: Repeat the “codependence” Energy Checking assessment procedure above

to make sure no codependence remains with any person regarding this issue. When it is,

immediately go to step three. (If it isn‟t, repeat intervention with client rubbing the NLR

spot on the heart side of the chest – see diagram. If this doesn‟t work, either do a complete

“9 gamut sandwich” while repeating the affirmation in the intervention step above or energy

check to assess a custom meridian or chakra intervention point – see last page of module for

chakra interventions – and re-do the intervention above using that point. If these don‟t work

either, use the more detailed intervention protocol on the previous page in place of this

intervention protocol.)

page 12

d. VENGEANCE: Assessment: “I‟m unwilling to be over this problem/embody this goal because someone

doesn‟t deserve for me to be over it.” versus “I‟m willing to be (completely) over this

problem/embody this goal even if anyone else doesn‟t deserve for me to succeed.” (When

this objection exists, ask the client who the person is/people are, and confirm this with

Energy Checking. Optional: Also ask what your client is waiting for that person to do in

order for that person to deserve for your client to succeed with intervening with this issue.)

Intervention: While client is alternately tapping on each outer eye (oe) spot, have him/her

repeat the following affirmation three times – “Even if ________ doesn‟t deserve for me to

be (completely) over this problem/embody this goal, I now choose to succeed anyway.”

Check Results: Repeat the “undeservingness” Energy Checking assessment procedure

above to make sure this objection is now cleared. When it is, immediately go to step three.

(If it isn‟t, repeat intervention with client tapping under lower lip, side of hand to side of

hand, or rubbing the NLR spot on the heart side of the chest – see diagram. If none of these

work, either do a complete “9 gamut sandwich” while repeating the affirmation in the

intervention step above or energy check to assess a custom meridian or chakra intervention

point – see last page of module for chakra interventions – and re-do the intervention above

using that point. If these don‟t work either, use the more detailed intervention protocol on

the previous page in place of this intervention protocol.)

e. Objections Intervention: Sometimes clients need to intensify their commitment prior to

intervening with the issue itself, following having started to hold the risks with grace. When

this is the case, have your client do another round of tapping on the specified acupoints (see

next page) while repeating something like: “Since I am taking risks either way, I choose

success with this issue.” Then ask the client to report what came from this intervention in

terms of willingness to succeed and verify this self-report with Energy Checking. You‟re

looking for your client to verify that now s/he feels sufficient inner willingness to make the

inner stretch necessary to allow the intervention to succeed EVEN THOUGH there are risks.

3. Determine What to Do Next: After you successfully intervene with an objection above, repeat

step one to discover if that objection was the only (or final) one needing intervention. If Energy

Checking confirms that another objection exists, go to step two again and follow the

instructions. Then go back again to step one to find out if 100% willingness to succeed has been

established. When 100% willingness to succeed has been established, go on to Step Five of the

EPE protocol.

Page 14: Energy Psychology Essentials™ Volume 1 … · Energy Psychology Essentials ... and which may need to work through in psychotherapy with the practitioner of your choice. ... chakras

page 13

“Willingness to Succeed” Protocol, Option 2 (Richer Option, Takes Time): Holding the Risks With Grace

1. Specify what‟s at risk if you do – & if you don‟t – succeed at clearing away the problem or

trauma or wound and/or to embodying a desired intention, goal or state: Help your client

identify what‟s at risk if s/he succeeds by reviewing each of the four categories described above

for clues. Then ask the client what‟s at risk if s/he keeps the status quo on this issue.

2. Hold the Risks with Grace: Have your client tap on the head and torso acupoints (see page

Error! Bookmark not defined.) while attuned to his/her list of both sets of risks (changing and

maintaining the status quo). Then ask your client to report how s/he feels about these risks.

Verify this self-report with Energy Checking. You’re looking for your client to verify that now

s/he can hold these risks with enough grace to feel sufficient inner willingness to make the

inner stretch necessary to allow the intervention can succeed EVEN THOUGH there are risks. Check these results through self-report and Energy Checking. Repeat this procedure a second

time if your client is not yet able to hold both sets of risk with grace after the first time.

3. Optional (if client feels this extra step might be helpful) – Commit to the Stretch: Sometimes clients need to intensify their commitment prior to intervening with the issue itself,

following having started to hold the risks with grace. When this is the case, have your client do

another round of tapping on the specified acupoints (see chart on a subsequent page) while

repeating something like: “Since I am taking risks either way, I choose success with this issue.”

Then ask the client to report what came from this intervention in terms of willingness to succeed

and verify this self-report with Energy Checking. You‟re looking for your client to verify that

now s/he feels sufficient inner willingness to make the inner stretch necessary to allow the

intervention to succeed EVEN THOUGH there are risks.

4. Troubleshooting: If willingness (permission) cannot be established at this point, intervening

with the source of the objections to success becomes the temporary Priority Treatment Focus

(PTF) for this layer of intervention. Continue with Step 5 of the EPE protocol, intervening with

this instead of the original PTF until this issue has been resolved. If needed before proceeding,

re-select the Progress Evaluation Method so that it matches this PTF.

“Willingness to Succeed” Intervention Option 3: Original Psychological Reversal Interventions & Chakra Interventions for PRs

See the corresponding section of the Troubleshooting manual for instructions. Even if you don‟t use

this option, reviewing it illuminates the range of specialized objections that can arise and which

innovator is credited with originally discovering which PR. Also, make a point of looking at the

final page of that section, because it provides information on chakra PR interventions. This

troubleshooting strategy can be particularly useful even though it is rarely provided in most Energy

Psychology training manuals.

Foundation & Harvesting

Focuses on upgrading WisePassions #1-4 (Teachability, Self-Care, Discernment and

Harvesting), with a particular emphasis on WisePassion #4 (Harvesting). Includes in-

depth discovery of one‟s Survival and Redemption Plans and then practicing methods for

outgrowing bondage to those plans through more fully harvesting gifts from

insufficiently digested life experiences.

Intentional Effectiveness

Focuses on WisePassion #5 (Power), with an emphasis identifying and embracing one‟s

life purpose and on mastering a four-step process for boosting one‟s personal power to

bring about one‟s intentions.

Synergy Training

Focuses on WisePassion #6 (Synergy), with an emphasis on mastering the art of going

beneath surface positions to discover core intentions, co-creating joint solutions that

honor the core intentions of all involved, and commitment competence.

Stewardship Training

Focuses on clarifying one‟s Service Mission, identifying the leadership forms and

contexts that one most resonates with, expanding one‟s vision of Everyday Stewardship,

mastering the leadership skill of holding others accountable for their commitments, and

looking at how each of our three core drives express themselves in various leadership

roles aspects of life such as parenting, education, business, community activism, politics,

etc. Specialized versions are also available for business leaders and political leaders.

Conquering Anger Mountain

This one-of-a-kind workshop goes far beyond “anger management,” covering the four

distinctly different flavors anger comes in and providing potent tools for recognizing and

addressing each one. Attendees learn strategies for preventing anger, for doing “u-turns”

when anger is escalating, for dealing with anger that escalates to the “flooding” stage,

and for completing old, recycling, stuck, and victim anger. Develop anger intelligence

with yourself while also learning how to deal with other people‟s anger far less fearfully

and far more effectively. Versions of this specialty workshop for WisePassions 4, 5 and

6 are available for the public, helping professionals and businesses.

NICE™ Boundaries Training

A true boundary isn‟t a line drawn in the sand or an ultimatum. It is “any limit I need to

honor in order to love or work with you without resentment and with integrity.” This

workshop teaches the practical four step NICE™ Boundaries process that makes it

possible to rapidly master boundaries intelligence, which is a crucial key to personal

power as well as creating collaborative relationships. Versions of this WisePassion 5 and

6 specialty workshop are available for the public, helping professionals, and businesses.

Dealing With This workshop provides a novel archetypes-based angle on this topic, illuminating five

Difficult People

extremely different types of difficult people and revealing how to effectively respond to

each type. Versions of this WisePassion 6 specialty workshop are available for

businesses and for personal life. This workshop is unlike any other you might have taken

on dealing with difficult people.

Mastering Your Core Archetypes

All of us have three sets of counterbalancing life energies or archetypes: Beingness and

Doingness, Stability and Change, and Free Will (Choicemaking) and Shadow (the holder

of the parts of us we deny, disown or unconsciously indulge). This powerful training

program puts you in charge of all of these life energies within you so that you can step

into healthy personal power, participate more collaboratively in your personal and work

relationships, and lead more effectively. Versions of this specialty workshop for

WisePassions 5, 6 and 7 are available for the public, helping professionals, men and

leaders.

Energy Psychology Essentials™

Energy Psychology is a newly emerging family of integrative mind-body methods that

utilize certain standard-of-care techniques from chiropractic medicine, nursing, and

traditional Chinese medicine to rapidly relieve a wide range of psychological suffering

(trauma, fears, old baggage, etc.) and equally rapidly help embed and amplify desired

states such as peak performance, Intentional Effectiveness and business decisions “at the

speed of blur.” These all-purpose development methods are useful adjuncts with all

seven WisePassions. Because they come in self-help strength for the public and clinician

strength for helping professionals, Dr. Gruder offers one training program for helping

professionals and another for everyone else.

Residential Retreats

This format best lends itself to being offered in retreat centers and residential treatment programs. Attendees immerse themselves in all Seven WisePassions over the course of seven long days following this format. Each WisePassion is addressed in less depth than in the individual workshops above so that attendees are less prone to becoming overwhelmed by the amount of territory that is covered in seven successive days. When feasible, it can be valuable to consider spreading these intensives out over 10-14 days rather than 7.
