End world hunger.
SEPTEMBER 2017 – FEBRUARY 2018
OVERVIEW
At the recent Rise Against Hunger Africa
Board and Staff retreat, we made a
commitment to increase the number of
Early Childhood Developments Centres
we support. With the East London branch
now in full operation we are also able to
start making a significant impact in the
Eastern Cape.

PARTNERS & UNIVERSITIES:
We have recently partnered with the Topsy Foundation who support 34 crèches in the
Mpumalanga Province. This partnership will support 2390 children with nutritious meals
on a daily basis. We also partnered with Topsy Foundation to access disabled children,
who are often neglected.
In the Eastern Cape we are working together
with the Rotary Club, who currently provide
teacher training at ECD level. By receiving
proper foundation phase education and
nutritious meals we are already giving 873
children in the Nelson Mandela Bay area a
huge boost in becoming successful scholars
in the future.
The University feeding programme is growing
at a steady rate. The University of the Free
State are receiving meals on a regular basis
and from March 2018 we are running a pilot
project with UNISA. They have up to 96 000
students who face hunger on a daily basis.
ECD CONNECT PROGRAMME
Our monthly direct distribution and outcomes based programme for ECD’s has increased
by 20crèches, with the number of children supported increasing by 20%. We are
committed to growing this number in 2018.
We are also looking into supporting many of the children at these facilities over the
weekend as we are very aware that some of our beneficiaries have very little or no food
to eat when not attending school. This will increase support to families being fed twice a
week and thus our beneficiaries as well.
