Charles & Ray Eames feature among the most important figures of twentieth century design. Their work is multi-faceted: they developed funiture, produced films and photo-graphs, organised exhibitions and designed and built their own house as a pioneering endeavour.

Vitra has produced and marketed the furniture designs of Charles & Ray Eames since 1957. First produc-ing under license, Vitra obtained exclus ive rights to all Eames prod-ucts for Europe and the Middle East in 1984. Consequently, we are the sole legitimate manufacturer of Eames designs in this part of the world. The brand gives you the security of owning an originalproduct by Charles & Ray Eames.

The shell of the Eames Plastic Chair is connected to the metal frame using shock mounts, resulting in a comfort-able seat even over long periods. The chair is a good choice for a wide variety of settings, both indoors and outdoors; for domestic use, restaurants, waiting areas, offices, conference rooms, or even large auditoriums.

The seat shell can be combined with various bases, for instance on a stackable base with row connectors for mass seating or mounted on a crossbar for public waiting areas. For outdoor use, the bases are powder- coated and galvanised.

DSW (Dining Side Shell Wood) is a version of the Eames Plastic Side Chair with the wooden base that Charles and Ray Eames first used in 1951 for the Wire Chair. The unusual combination of materials with the conical round steel bars results in a solid design and lends this chair an independent character.

The Eames Plastic Side Chair is Vitra’s re-edition of the now legendary Eames Fibreglass Chair. It is based on the original 1950 design – the first industrially manufactured plastic chair. In 1993, Vitra discontinued production for ecological reasons, as fibreglass cannot be recycled. Thanks to recent advances in technology and materials, we are now proud to offer the Eames Plastic Chair – in the exact same shape, but made of polypropylene.

Eames Plastic Side Chair Programme features

Eames Plastic Side Chair with solid-coloured seat shell made of polypropylene on various bases. Optionally with basic dark felt glides for hard flooring. Bases with chrome finish or powder coat-ed dark grey (NCS-S-6500-N).

DSS-N With stackable four-leg tubular steel base, 14-chairs stack to a height of 2 m. Optionally with seat and row number labelling.DSS variants with sequential coupling device.

DSR With non-stackable four-leg wire base with cross struts.

DSW Wooden base in maple, stained and varnished, with basic dark tubular steel cross-supports.

DSX Four-legged steel tube base (not stackable).

PSCC Height-adjustable swivel chair on five-star base, polished pressure-cast aluminium. Hard castors for carpeting; as an option soft castors for hard floors.

On crossbar 2-5 units can be linked or combined with tables made of HPL laminate (black, 56 x 43 cm). T-form supporting bar, epoxy coated basic dark, polished aluminium base.

Outdoor use The powder-coating makes the chair ideal for out-door use. The frame is galvanized. Special additives in the seat pan slow colour fading due to UV radiation. However, leaving the chair be exposed to the sun for an extended period of time can result in changes in the colour. We recommend that the chair not be left in the sun longer than necessary.

Flammability Meets with DIN EN 1021 sections 1 and 2 – inflam-mability of upholstered furniture (cigarette and butane flame resistance).
