Dust Collector Principles of Operation The Spin Filter contains a series of tubes with stationary air spinners. Through centrifugal force contaminants are removed from the air stream as it is drawn through the tubes. The steps of purification are outlined below.

1. Air is drawn or forced through the intake transition area and is mixed with water droplets from strategically placed sprays; the water droplets being sized from 3 to 20 microns.

2. The water and dust particles attach to each other, and by centrifugal forces imparted by the Spin Filter, are separated from the main airstream and discharged through a water trap to disposal point as slurry.

3. Clean air containing unused water droplets continues through the unit and is separated at the demister panel, the excess water being piped away with the underflow slurry.

The cleaned air passes through to the main fan and rejoins the exhaust air circuit, or is discharged to the ambient atmosphere. By adjusting the flow rates and pressure of the intake water line, large variations of dust capacity and air flow rates can be accommodated. Advantages of the Wet Scrubber

Collection of dust in a wetted form eliminates a secondary dust problem in disposal of collected material. Some dust presents a risk of explosion or fire hazard, the wet procedure significantly reduces or eliminates the hazard.

Have the ability to handle high temperatures and moisture laden gases. With the fan on the clean air side of the collector, less power is required. With periodical flushing caking is not a problem. The principle mechanism is impacting of dust particles on the liquid droplets, created by

nozzles. Has the inherent ability to humidify through the process of adding water vapour to the air

stream through evaporation.

Dust Collector – Installation & Maintenance For Re-Circulating & Non Re-Circulating Units

Installation The unit requires minimal footing, but the footing should be sufficient to withstand total unit weight and contained water, and should be level to ensure water drainage is adequate and sludge does not build up within the unit on the subfloor. As well, the discharge line should be installed higher than the eventual discharge point. The installation location should be clear of all obstruction to the access doors so that maintenance can be carried out routinely by operating personnel. The unit should be installed, after inspection upon arrival, in the desired location and levelled with a field level. The unit is designed to operate in underground excavations which slope from +10% to -10%. Daily Operation and Maintenance The unit in operation does not require an attendant, but each eight hour operation shift the following must be checked:

Water nozzles inspected to ensure all passage ways are clear. Water filter checked to ensure line water is clean. Internal Spin-Filter units inspected to ensure free water passages. Visually inspect the surface of the demister panels for dirt build-up. Air leaks and wear points. Fan operation. Water leaks around inspection doors.

Once a week or every 160 operating hours the Spin-Filter units and demister panels should be washed down with the wash blow pipe. The above will depend largely on the location and dust load per day that the dust collector is subjected to. Each operation will vary according to type of dust and the amount per day of the load. Spray nozzles should be cleaned or replaced as soon as plugging is evident.

Spin Filter Performance Data Efficiency vs. Particle Size The Spin Filter has a dirt removal efficiency or 98% for particles 15 microns and larger. The graph provides complete data on particle size removal efficiency, showing that it will remove over 93% of all solid particles 8 microns and larger. In addition, the Spin Filter has a water removal efficiency of over 90%. Efficiency vs. Inlet Air Flow These graphs show the effect of inlet air flow variance on efficiency. Based on AC Coarse Test Dust with particle sizes ranging from sub-micronic to 200 microns, they illustrate the efficiency of the Spin Filter through a wide range of inlet air flows.

Pressure Drop vs. Inlet Air Flow Pressure drop through the Spin Filter is low (after leaving the stationary spinners) due to the straight air path through the tubes. These graphs show a pressure drop of 1.1 inches of water at an air flow of 725 CFM through the single module and 1450 CFM through the standard twin module.
