Dry feeding systems in different vari-ations are inherent part of modern farming, are mainly used and are well-known in pig management all over the world. At TEWE Elektronic the dry feeding system is top-ran-king, too, and will be advanced and optimized by our specialists. Impor-tant basic elements of our dry fee-ding systems, such as feed machine, feed intake, batch mixer, automatic dry feed valves, control and weighing systems for high-precision mixing and discharging, feed apportionment technique for automatic discharging of precisely calculated batches also to long troughs, are developed by TEWE - arose from the need to meet present-day above average require-ments for metering feed and hygiene. In this context, we may point to the DLG award given for our hygiene equipment at dry feeding systems, in which especially our innovative food intake and deflection corner technique in circulation system were priced with a silver medal. We will
draw up a needs-suited plan for the supply of baby piglets, preparatory feeding and fattening, sows in the service center, gestation or farrowing area. Our food transport systems can equally be used economically in small and large units because of the modular design of our systems. Different kinds of food - depending on the technology also food with high CCM content - can be transported and discharged by adapting our food transportation and food intake tech-nique to the medium to be conveyed. For this we use conveyor chains or ropes, depending on kind of feed and
availability also in stainless steel qua-lity. In addition to simple ad-libitum feeding systems are used more and more computerized batch feeding systems - especially for the supply of baby piglets and for preparatory feeding. These systems will prepare the feed mixture by automatically admixing single feed components. The systems will also automatically recalculate the feed mixture every day - according to the increasing live weight of animals - by means of control computer. Therefore TEWE’s in-house software department has created specific programs that

DRY FEED SYSTEMSexploit these opportunities in many variations - from the time-control-led dosing of different convenience blends to different feeding places up to highly accurate and needs-suited feed batch mixed of individual components, which will be dischar-ged exactly to a particular automa-tic feeder. Depending on the used system the animals can be optimally
brought up to the „biologically feasi-ble optimum“ using sensors installed in the automatic feeders. This system works without running the risk of providing the animals with too much food, feed losses or risking even sim-ple „overflow“ of automatic feeders. Increasingly important aspect: Using this technique makes feeding not only extremely economical but also
environmentally friendly, as for exa-mple, the phosphorus and nitrogen excretion of animals can be reduced significantly. We can hardly list all possibilities of our control systems which are applicable in various ways. Applicable for varying types of feed in the sub-chains, for supply of fattening, piglet and sow areas (phase feeding).
Any number of feed chains and sub-chains can be operated simultaneously. In case of overlong feed pipes the food can also be passed over from one
conveyor chain to another conveyor chain. Consequently there are best conditions for using this system for feeding
automation on large farms. Capacity of each conveyor chain is up to 1000 kg/h (depends on kind of food!). Admixture of additives will be done right to the corresponding sub-chain – for
this reason there is no contamination of the conveyor chain or other sub-chains. Simple feed selection, no electronics in the compartments, employee-compliant
operating.

PHASE FEEDING WITH SUB-CHAINS
In batch feeding single components will be mixed to portions and these portions are then conveyed exactly to one certain feeder. Metering of single components to the mixer is made by electronic scales with high-precision 10-gram resolution. Dry feed valves VT 60 are equipped with an especially long outlet opening (13.5 cm!), so a portion is discharged without significant loss by entrainment. The high-precision metering of single components into the batch mixer is useless if the finished feed portion cannot be discharged completely at the valve for which the batch was mixed for. For that reason we use bar chains or conveyor ropes for batch convey-ing. Due to their construction these chains and ropes cause no signifi-cant loss by entrainment. The buffer containers, MONO or DUO design, are equipped with discharge screws, which feed the conveyor device continuously with a certain food amount. Different discharge screws or gear motors vary the discharge amount. To ensure a complete emptying of the buffer tank after each batch, the discharge screw is embedded in a circular fiber-glass hull which surrounds it almost sealed. The last stage above the screw is provided with an expan-sion chamber to avoid bridge formation in multistage hop-per of the buffer. The TEWE VT60 feed valves can now be ordered with a double-acting industrial pneumatic cylinder and external control valve blocks. The valve blocks, pre-as-sembled in groups, are mounted in the main passage way. Only an air hose will lead to the feed valves in the compart-ment. For simple function control, the control valves are equipped with function diodes. Thus there is no more sensitive equipment of the feeding system directly in the compartments with the animals!
