Guest Lecture

India Pvt Limited has delivered guest lectures on ‘Opportunities for
Horticulture and Rural Development Professionals’ and
‘Expectations of Corporate sector in Horticulture and allied disci-
plines’ at CoH, Venkataramannagudem on 30.04.2018.
Exposure Visits
Dr. K. Swarajya Lakshmi, Assoc. Professor (Hort.) and Dr.K.Lalitha,
Asst. prof (Agron), Dr. V. Bhargav, TA, (Hort), CoH, Anantharaju-
peta along with 2nd year B.Sc (Hons.) Horticulture students visited
International Airport, Prakasam Park, Municipal Park, Padmavathi
Park, Babu Jagjeevanram Park, Shilparamam, Srinivasa nursery,
Preethi gardens and Nurseries at Tirupati on 20.04.2018 to get
exposure on landscape designs and ornamental plants.
NSS Activities
A rally was conducted under the chairmanship of the Dr. M. Rama
Krishna, Associate Dean, CoH, Anantharajupeta in Kodur town
condemning the sexual harassment against girl childs in our coun-
try on 21.04.2018.. NSS volunteers of 1st B.Sc (Hons) Horticulture,
NSS programme officers Dr. B. Tanjuja Priya, Dr. K. Arunodayam
and other teaching staff have also participated.
State Level Technical Programme Meeting
Eleventh State Level Technical Programme (SLTP)
meeting of Dr.YSRHU was held from 17th - 19th
April, 2018 at University Campus. Dr.Prakash Patil,
Project Coordinator, AICRP on Fruits, Dr.P.Venkata
Rao, Former Dean, Central Agricultural University,
Imphal, Dr.B.Srinivasulu, Registrar & Professor (Pl.
Path.), Dr. V.Krishna Rao, Former University Head
& Professor, Department of Plant Pathology,
ANGRAU, Dr.K.Gopal, Controller of Examinations &
Professor (Pl. Path.), Dr.P.D.Kamala Jayanthi, Principal Scientist (Ento.), IIHR, Bengaluru and
Dr.A.Sujatha, Dean of Student Affairs & Professor (Ento.) along with Dr. J. DilipBabu, Director of
Research and Dr.R.V.S.K.Reddy, Director of Extension attended this programme as experts to
review the technical programmes and provided technical guidance for formulating the new
research trials. All the scientists from research stations presented the work done during 2017-18
and the proposed technical programme of work for the year 2018-19.

New Cassava Accession PDP-6
“Cassava accession PDP-6” of HRS, Peddapuram was recommended
for state release during 18th Annual Group meeting of AICRP on Tuber
crops held at ICAR-CTCRI Thiruvananthapuram from 26.04.2018 to
28.04.2018 which was attended by Dr. B. V. K. Bhagavan, Principal
Scientist (Hort.) & Head, and Dr.K.Mamatha, Sr.Scientist (Hort,), HRS,
Kovvur.
Research
Extension Training Programmes
Dr. M. Tagore Naik, Scientist (Hort), HRS, Mahanandhi attended training programme as resourse
person on “Ulli udpadaka padarthala mida rhythu sadassu” organized by Dept. of Horticulture,
Kurnool on 20.04.2018.
Dr. K. Subramanyam, Principal Scientist (Pl. Path.) & Head, HRS, Mahanandhi attended a training
programme as resource person on “Integrated pest & disease management in Sweet orange”
organized by RHTI, Anantapuramu on 27.04.2018.
A fifteen days training programme on ‘Food Processing and
Preservation’ was organized by the Krishi Vigyan Kendra,
Venkataramannagudemfrom on 02nd April, 2018 to 16thApril,
2018. Dr. E. Karuna Sree, Course Director, Senior Scientist &
Head, KVK and scientists of KVK, V R Gudem delivered lectures
on various aspects as resource persons for the training
program. A total of 29 BSc students from Ch.S.D.St. Thesesa’s
College for Women, Eluru were trained on various aspects of food processing and preservation.
Dr. R. V. S. K. Reddy, Director of Extension attended the valedictory program as chief guest and
mentioned about the entrepreneurship development and reduction in wastage of produce by
employing proper preservation methods and distributed certificates to the participants.
KVK, Pandirimamidi organized three days state level training
program on “Advances in Cocoa Production Technology” from
24.04.2018 to 26.04.2018 sponsored by ICAR-DCCD, Kochi. Dr.
R.V.S.K.Reddy, Director of Extension attended as Chief Guest
and addressed the farmers to follow IPDM practices, grow
cocoa as an intercrop in coconut and oilpalm to get higher
returns. Technical sessions were conducted on cocoa cultiva-
tion and nursery management, pruning and production technology, emerging pests and IPDM in
cocoa, soil management, rodent management, cocoa marketing, post harvest technology in cocoa by
scientists of Dr.YSRHU. Fifty farmers from Srikakulam, Vijayanagaram, Visakhapatnam, East
Godavari and West Godavari districts have participated in the training programme.

pated as resource person in a training programme on “Integrated pest & disease management in
banana” organized by RHTI, Anantapuramu on 24.04.2018.

Dr.N.B.V.Chalapathi Rao, Senior Scientist (Ento.), HRS, Ambajipeta
participated as resource person in an awareness cum training program
organized by Centre for IPM, State Center, Vijayawada working under
Central Ministry of Agriculture on Rugose spiralling White fly in
Kadiyam village of East Godavari on 27.04.2018.
Dr. K. Subramanyam, Principal Scientist (Pl. Path.) & Head, HRS, Mahanandhi attended a training
programme as resource person on “Cluster development training programme on pomegranate and
banana” organized by APEDA and Dept. of Horticulture, Anatapuramu on 26.04.2018.
Dr. C. Madhumathi. Professor (Hort.), CoH, Anantharajupeta
attended a training program to input dealers as resource person on
“Diploma in Agricultural Extension Services for Input Dealers
(DAESI)” and discussed the “Scope and Importance of Horticulture”
at farmers hostel, RARS, Tirupati on 28.04.2018.
Vocational Training Programmes
A Ten days vocational training programme on ‘Nursery, Gar-
dening, organic farming and sustainable agriculture’ was
organized by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Venkataramannagudem
from 16.04.2018 to 25.04.2018 to BSc (BZC) students from
Ch.S.D.St. Theresa’s College for Women, Eluru. The training
programme was coordinated by Dr.K.Venkata subbaiah
Scientist (Hort.) and Dr.V.Deepthi, Scientist (Agril Extn.) and
technical sessions on important aspects of nursery management & sustainable agriculture were
conducted by the scientists. Dr.R.V.S.K.Reddy, Director of Extension interacted with the trainees
during valedictory function on 25.042018 and distributed certificates.
Field Day
On 21.04.2018, KVK, Pandirimamidi conducted field day on sesame
variety YLM-66 at Thimmapuram village of Addateegala mandal. KVK
Scientists Sri.P Raja Sekhar, Scientist (SS&AC) and Ms. N. Sri Vidya Rani,
Scientist (Extn.) interacted with farmers and taken feedback regarding
performance of this variety over local cultivar followed by technical
sessions on cultivation of improved varieties of sesame.
KVK, Venkataramannagudem conducted field day on sesame in village
Takkellapadu, Dwaraka Tirumala mandal on 16.04.2018 under Cluster front
line demonstration on Oilseeds (CFLDs – Oil seeds) where in the test variety,
YLM-66 recorded an average yield of 10.75 q/ha against the farmer’s exist-
ing variety Gowri which recorded an average yield of 6.25 q/ha. Sri.G.Shali
Raju, Scientist (Ento.) coordinated the programme.
Tribal Sub Plan KVK, Venkataramannagudem distributed one month old Rajasri
variety birds to twenty tribal farmers of Jeelugumilli, Buttaigudem
and Polavaram mandals on 24.04.2018 under tribal sub plan as a
part of on farm trial. In this programme, Dr. R.V.S.K. Reddy, Director

of Extension distributed Rajasri variety birds to tribal women to assess the performance of this
breed against the country fouls in weight gain, egg laying and disease resistance.
Diagnostic Visits
On 26.04.2018, Dr. A. Srinivas, Senior Scientist & Head, Sri
K.C.Bhanumurthy, Scientist (Hort.) and Sri N. Srividya Rani, Scientist
(Extn.), KVK, Pandirimamidi visited mango orchard at Korukonda, East
Godavari District and observed black tip disorder in mango as brick kilns
are just beside the orchard and suggested to spray borax (1%) or caustic
soda positively at pea stage followed by two more sprays at 15 days interval to minimize the
disorder.
Dr. T. Vijaya Nirmala, Scientist (Veterinary Science), KVK, Venkataramannagudem
observed right leg lameness due to open wound at femoral region in Cock reared by
Venkataramannagudem farmer On 23.04.2018 and suggested dressing of wound with
povidone iodine lotion and treatment with antibiotic powder and Ambiplex liquid orally
for 5-7 days.
On 27.04.2018, Sri. G. Sandeep Naik, Scientist (Pl. Path.) along with techi-
nal team of KVK, Vonipenta visited chilli field at Adireddipalle village,
Mydukur mandal. The scientists identified Fe and Zn micronutrient defi-
ciency in chilli and recommended spraying of ferrous sulphate @ 2.5 gm/
l and zinc sulphate @ 2gm/l.
On 20.04.2018, Dr. A. Srinivas, Senior Scientist & Head,
Sri.K.C.Bhanumurthy, Scientist (Hort.) and Sri.P Raja Sekhar, Scientist
(SS&AC), KVK, Pandirimamidi visited oil palm and banana orchards at
Yerrampalem village of Gangavaram mandal. Observed boron and
potassium deficiencies, and also sigatoka disease in banana. Recom-
mended the farmer to enrich the soil by adding organic manure
followed by soil application of boron@250 g/ oilpalm tree and potassium @ 250 g/banana tree in
four splits. Also recommended to spray [email protected]% for the control of sigatoka disease.
Technical team of KVK, Periyavaram has conducted field diagnostic visit to chilli crop at Boppapu-
ram village, Venkatagiri mandal on 28.04.2018 and found the crop
infested with die back and fruit rot disease and suggested to spray
propicanozole @ 1 ml/l. Also suggested to use disease free seed
material as a preventive measure along with seed treatment with
thiram or captan@ 3 g/kg.
Dr.P.Manjari, Scientist, Veterinary Science, KVK, Periyavaram visited
Boppapuram village of Venkatagiri mandal on 19.04.2018 and observed
severe heat stress in lactating Murrah buffaloes due to which there was
a steep reduction in milk production. Suggested to increase ventilation
in shed, regular wetting of the buffaloes, feeding of green fodder and
were given Area Specific Mineral Mixture to improve health condition
and revive productivity.

Dr.P.Manjari, Scientist, Veterinary Science and Dr.L.Ranjith Kumar,
Scientist (Ento.), KVK, Periyavaram conducted training programme
on ‘Importance of deworming and vaccination’ and organized
deworming camp at Palakondasatram village of Venkatagiri mandal
to celebrate World Veterinary Day on 28.04.2018. The programme
was conducted in collaboration with Srinivasan Trust (NGO) and
Animal husbandry department. About 218 sheep and goats were administered with deworming
solution.
Technical team of KVK, Periyavaram visited colacasia fields as a part
of OFT at Boppapuram village of Venkatagiri mandal on 28.04.2018
and found the crop heavily infested with leaf eating caterpillar
(spodoptera) and suggested to spray prophenophos @ 2ml/l as the
crop was in the initial stages.
On 20.04.2018, Sri. G. Sandeep Naik, Scientist, (Pl. Path.) along with tech-
nical team of KVK, Vonipenta visited betelvine field for diagnosis at
Vonipenta village of Mydukur mandal and identified mite damage and
recommended spraying of Sulphur (WP) @ 3 g/l or dicofol @ 5 ml/l.
General
Meetings
,On 25.04.2018, Sri K.C.Bhanumurthy, Scientist (Hort.), KVK, Pandirimamidi attended ATMA, East
Godavari Governing body meeting at Kakinada Collectorate which was chaired by District Collector,
East Godavari and presented the report of 2017-18 and action plan of 2018-19 for Rampachodava-
ram block.
V Deepthi, Scientist (Agril Extn.) and Sri G Shali Raju, Scientist (Ento.), KVK, Venkataramannagudem
attended ZREAC meeting at Regional Agricultural Research Station, Maruteru conducted by ANGRAU
on 24.04.2018 and discussed about the seasonal and crop conditions prevailing in KVK operational
areas in the district.
Dr Zehra Salma, Asst Prof (Hort.) attended a national level brain
storming session on “Acceleration of commercial horticulture de-
velopment under NHB in collaboration” at NHB, Gurgaon, Haryana
on 23rd April, 2018.
Visits
Farmers from Bheemili and Sabbavaram mandals of Visakhapatanam district
visited HRS, Venkataramannagudem and Centre of Excellence for Pro-
tected Cultivation (CEPC) on 26.04.2018 to 27.04.2018 as part of an
exposure visit. Dr M. Ravindra Babu, Scientist (Hort) explained about
vegetable cultivation, Hitech nursery and protected cultivation of high
value crops.
PG and Ph.D students of Coimbatore and Periyakulam colleges (35 students) along with 4 staff
members visited Citrus Research Station, Tirupati on 27.04.2018 to update knowledge on citrus
research achievements and technologies.

One hundred and twenty horticultural farmers of Vishakapatnam
district visited KVK, Venkataramannagudem in three batches
from 26.04.2018 to 28.04.2018 to learn about the latest technolo-
gies in the horticultural sector. Sri G. Shali raju, Scientist (Ento.)
and Dr.K.Venkata Subbaiah Scientist (Hort.), KVK, Venkataraman-
nagudem, explained about the IPM practices in vegetables,
pruning operations in guava and also taken on a visit to demonstration units viz., apiary, vegetable
seed production, improved backyard poultry, milch animals, sheep rearing, vermicomposting and
azolla production at KVK, Venkataramannagudem.
Thirty farmers from Prakasam district visited KVK, Venkataraman-
nagudem on 20.04.2017 on an exposure visit to Dr.YSRHU campus.
Dr.K.Venkata Subbaiah, Scientist (Hort.) explained about the latest
technologies in vegetable and horticultural crops. Sri. G.Shaliraju,
Scientist (Ento.) briefed about the IPM practices in vegetable crops
and Honey bee rearing. Dr.T.Vijaya Nirmala, Scientist (Vet. Science)
explained about the livestock activities of KVK.
Dr. M. Raja Naik, Asst. Professor (Hort.), CoH, Anantharajupeta
visited International airport, Tirupati on 25.04.2018 along with
Scientists of RARS, Tirupati, Secretary, TUDA, Tirupati and visited
soils of airport and noticed severe salt injury, nutrient deficiency
and root rot, wilt disease in ornamental plants at airport. Discussed
with airport authority and gave suggestions for the management of
all noticed problems.
Dr. T. Vijaya Nirmala, Scientist (Vet. Science), KVK Venkataraman-
nagudem explained about reproduction and fodder management
in cattle to the farmers from East Godavari district on 22.04.2018.
Farmers were taken on a visit to livestock demo units, Murrah
buffalo sheds and fodder plots of Buffalo Research Station,
Venkataramannagudem.
The committee of Andhra Pradesh Urban Greening and Beautification Corporation (AP-UGBC)
visited College of Horticulture, Anantharajupeta on 23.04.2018 and inspected farm ponds, greenery,
beautification of college and solar system on the campus.
Radio Programmes
Dr. P. Rama Devi, Senior Scientist (Pl. Path) & Head, HRS, V.R.Gudem attended the programme on
‘Tamalapaku thotala yajamanya paddatulu’ which was broadcasted in All India Radio, Vijayawada
on 19.04.2018.
