2 IntroductiontoStats&ProbabilityTheory-Stat207:Thiscourseprovidesanelementaryintroductiontoprobabilityandstatisticswithapplications.Topicsinclude:graphicalandnumericalrepresentationofdata;Randomvariables;Introductiontoprobability;Conditionalprobabilityandstatisticalindependence;Bayestheorem;Mathematicalexpectation;Variance;Covarianceandthecorrelationcoefficientfortworandomvariables;Regressionanalysis;Someimportantdiscreteandcontinuousstatisticaldistributions;hypothesistesting;confidenceintervals.Statisticalsoftware(MinitabandSPSS)willbeusedtofacilitatetheanalysisofdatasetsandunderstandstatisticalconcepts.Emphasiswillbeplacedonhowtocollect,analyze,andinterpretdatacorrectly.Studentswillalsobetrainedonhowtoclearlyandaccuratelypresentdatatoothers.

3Logic and Proof Techniques-Math 401: The course includes two formal systems: propositional logic(statements,connectives,conditionals,andnegation)andpredicatelogic(quantifiers,occurrence,and freevariables).Thecoursestartsbypresentinga reviewof thebasicconceptsof set theory,functions,andrelations.Theemphasisisontypesofproofs(direct,contra-positive,contradiction,counterexample, and existence). In addition, the course covers other proof techniques useful incomputersciencesuchasmathematicalinduction.
