From The President’s Desk: Make sure you
check out the club calendar and read the rest of the newslet-ter. We have some fun events planned. If you didn’t attend
our 1st annual Super Bowl shoot you missed a good time. Harvey Shell, along with Ken and Irene Cechura, did a great job hosting the shoot. They’re already planning a bigger and better shoot for next year. The winter jackrabbit league is almost over with the season finale at May-wood on the 10th. Although Downers didn’t do very well in the team standings I think everyone still had a good time. Thank you to Karen VanderVeen, Ken and Irene Cechura, and all the others who helped out when we had the league shoots at DGSC. Hopefully by the time you read this we will have the sporting clays carts available for rent. On April 5th we will resume shooting on Friday nights. Hours are 6:00pm – 10:00pm with games starting at 7:00pm. For those of you who have never shot games, we shoot 27-yd killers with 35-yd shoot offs. It’s a lot of fun and everyone is welcome.
ByLaw Change
The proposed ByLaw change presented by Dennis Dobrydnia was dis-cussed at February 10th Members Meeting. The change was put to a vote and failed to pass by the required two-thirds majority.
Concealed Carry Class As a reminder, Safe Gun Permits LLC will be doing a Concealed Carry Class at the Club on Sunday, April 7th beginning at 1pm. The class typically takes about three hours of in-class instruction and requires no "live fire" exercise to qualify. There is no test. The class fee includes: passport photos, fingerprinting, priority mailing of everything required to Utah's Bureau of Criminal Identification for processing and will pro-vide you with the tracking number. The course fee is $100 and the Utah permit processing fee is $51. All fee are due on the day of class.

Hunting: Hi everyone hope you’re all feeling well. February was
a quiet month for the hunt program with only a couple of pheas-ant releases.
Following the members meeting on the 17th, I like to meet with the hunter's or whoever is interested and go over the past season. If you are unable to make the meeting drop me a line and let me know your like's and dislike's of the past season. At that point I’ll have a starting point to see what we can do to improve the program. GOD BLESS YOU Denny Marano

ISRA: Illinois Gun Owners Lobby Day, Wed, March 6th
All Illinois gun owners are invited to join the Illinois Gun Owners Lobby Day (IGOLD) in Springfield in 2013. This is an annual event where everyone goes to lobby their representatives in the Illinois House and Senate. The ISRA is partnering with IllinoisCarry.com to increase attendance and make a bigger and better impression in Springfield. Other participating organizations are, Guns Save Life, Sangamon County Rifle Association and the McHenry County Right To Carry Association.
Bus, travel, and parking information is available on the ISRA website, http://igold.isra.org ISRA will meet at the Prairie Capital Convention Center - Doors open at 10:45am with the program set to begin at 11:30am. We will have a legislative briefing followed by a march to the Capitol Building to locate and talk with our repre-sentatives. Please join us for Illinois Gun Owners Lobby Day, you won't regret going.
Buildings: You may notice the next time you are at the Club that
a cleaning project has begun. It would be appreciated if you could help maintain the integrity of the building by picking up after yourself. If you have anything that you wish to donate to the Club please check with me first to see if it is something we need, or if you see anything that is in need of repair please drop me a note or give me a call.
If anyone is interested in lending a hand, our next work party is Friday, March 8th (9:00 am-Noon) where we will be washing walls in the trapper’s room and the trap counter area.
Karen VanderVeen

ATA: As I write this, there are only 22 days of
winter left until Spring! With spring comes our Registered Target (ATA) season. As always, we can use any and all help available to host these events. These events not only benefit our own competing members, but allow us to “showcase” one of the finest shooting facilities in the Mid-west. Each year we receive numerous compli-ments regarding our targets, grounds, facilities, and organization from Illinois shooters. In re-cent years we have started to attract some “out of state” participants. These events also gener-ate considerable income for the club. Please mark your calendar and try to volunteer for at least one or more events, we really can use your help. To Volunteer Contact: Ken Cechura or Larry Chambers
Basic Shotgun Training Class: We will be conducting a two day "Introduction to Shotgunning" on Friday, March 22 [6-9 pm] and Saturday, March 23 [9:30am to Noon]. Certified NRA Instructors will teach basic fire-arm safety, range etiquette and basic funda-mentals of shotgun shooting for new or inex-perienced shooters. Class size is limited par-ticipants must preregister. Friday evening safety presentation is mandatory. For additional information contact Ken Cechura or Karen VanderVeen at the club (815-941-1366).
St Patrick’s Day Activity: Following
the member’s meeting on March 17th we will be doing a 50-Bird Pick-Your-Partner Wobble Flurry Shoot. The cost of the shoot is $13 per team. You may enter the event as often as you like, however, you need to change partners for each reentry. At the conclusion of the shoot the Club chefs will be serving a Corned Beef and Cab-bage dinner at a cost of $10.00 per person. Tickets are available at the trap counter. If you have any questions please see Karen VanderVeen or Ken Cechura.

Spring Non-Registered Lewis Shoot — April 14th
The Shoot The shoot will consist of three 50 target events shot at 16/21, 16/24 and 16/27 yards. The goal in each
event is to qualify for the Lewis Class Shoot-off that follows each event to win cash prizes.
At the conclusion of each event, the scores will be divided into 3 Lewis Classes, and the top 5 shooters in
each class (ties decided by longest back run) will advance to the Shoot-off.
Shoot-offs- Third Lewis will start at the event yardage, Second Lewis will start at the next longest yardage
and First Lewis will always shoot from the 27, 5 targets – 1 per post. Survivors will then shoot 5 targets at the next longer yardage until a winner and a runner-up in each class is decided.
At the conclusion of the Shoot-off the next event will start. At the conclusion of the three events,
the scores for all three events will be totaled and divided into 3 Lewis Classes and the top 5 scores in
each class (ties decided by longest back run in 1st event) will qualify for the High Over All Shoot-off. The
HOA Shoot-off will follow the same 5 target format at the 21, 24 & 27 yards as needed. The prize money for each Lewis Class will be divided 60% winner and 40% Runner-up.
Example: Assume 60 shooters. The 3 Lewis Classes in each event and HOA would have $200 per class in all 4 Shoot-offs. There would be a total of 12 winners and 12 Runner-ups for the day. The winners would receive $120 each and the Runner-ups $80. That would be 24 purse winners out of 60 shooters with a total of $2,400 in cash prizes!
The Cost Each 50 target event entry is $25, with $10 going to the Lewis Purse. The HOA entry is $15, with $10 go-
ing to the HOA Lewis Purse. You can enter as many events as you like, but you must enter all three and
play the HOA Lewis to qualify for the HOA Lewis Purse.
A free lunch will be provided for all Participants. (Who said there’s no free lunch!) Questions or to register call Harv Shell @ 815/405-3320
