5-Day Expressive Painting with Cathy Carey

Do you love the color, feeling and fluid movement in Matisse and Van Gogh paintings? Explore the

creative potential of expressive painting. Learn techniques to loosen up your drawing and painting,

discover ways to use color and composition to communicate. Push the limits of your medium and get

the most out of texture using layering and brush strokes. Santa Fe is the perfect place for this week long

exploration of ways to enhance your connection to painting. Whether you are a beginner or advanced

you will find new ideas and techniques to expand your style and ability to express yourself through

paint.

Classes are small, minimum of 2 maximum of 6 so each student gets private time with instructor to work

on their own goals. Located 4 blocks from Plaza and less than a mile to Canyon Road you will be right in

the heat of Santa Fe and able to enjoy a short walk to great lunch time restaurants and galleries.

Discover Santa Fe from an expressive point of view, and get the most this beautiful city has to offer an

Abstract Painting with Andrea Cermanski

Since there are no pre-determined rules, abstract art offers limitless opportunities for expression. As

someone who started out painting portraits and flowers, fifteen years later I now exclusively paint

abstractly. Whether you are just learning how to paint or you are a realist who needs to round out your

skill set, I can teach you how to start thinking and painting abstractly. We will do a variety of activities

which will demonstrate various ways to approach abstraction in your artwork. Materials are included,

but you will be supplied with a short list of objects to bring for the workshop.

Amazing Art with Venetian Plaster with Sandra Duran Wilson

Venetian Plaster is my favorite medium to work in because it renders such rich and mysterious surfaces.

We will create multiple layers using plaster, acrylic paints, mediums and papers. The beauty of this

material is that it is so easy to use and you can embed material into the plaster and once dry you can

unearth parts of it. Many layers of color, plaster, transfers, textures and objects will magically “float” to

the surface as we rub back into the history to reveal bits and parts like an archeological dig. Transfers

take on a dreamy quality and the final burnish and finish is satiny and smooth. Come play and create and

allow yourself time to immerse yourself in your art.

All levels are welcome and individual attention is possible in this small group setting. All supplies are

included in the price so you just show up for your art. The class is held in my light filled studio in Santa

Fe and is limited to 8 participants. You will leave with at least 2 finished works of art. Sign up soon and

email me with any questions you may have.

Santa Fe Creativity Workshops with Shirley Crow

Create your own original small painting and interpret your visit to Santa Fe with award-winning artist Shirley Crow. Play with techniques she uses in her studio, in the historic village of Tesuque only a few minutes from Santa Fe, along scenic Bishop’s Lodge Road.

Explore your creativity in an ideal setting —a contemporary house and garden specializing in grasses, and a roomy, light-filled studio looking onto the pinon-juniper landscape.

Learn a special technique that Shirley Crow uses in her mysterious, abstract oil paintings and explore the magic of color relationships with various methods using brushes and paints. You’ll also work with influences and inspirations as you express the colors of New Mexico in your own work…NO ART EXPERIENCE NECESSARY AND ALL LEVELS WELCOME!

The goal of the workshop is to give you a unique, fun, even joyous, art experience that lifts your spirits, expands aesthetic awareness and enhances your Santa Fe visit. All art materials, including a small primed canvas, are provided.

Shirley Crow earned her Bachelor of Science (with honors) in Art Education from the University of Missouri. She studied with and assisted the director of the Lowell Collins School of Art in Houston. She also won the Individual Artist Fellowship Award from and hosted visiting artists for the Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation, part of the National Endowment for the Arts, when she worked in Delaware. Her work has been exhibited at the U.S. Embassy in Belgium and many galleries, including The Read Johnson Gallery in Santa Fe, NM, Zane Bennett Contemporary Art Gallery in Santa Fe, NM, The Buddy Holly Center in Lubbock, TX, and the Delaware State Arts Council Gallery in Wilmington, DE.

About Santa Fe Creative Tourism

Santa Fe Creative Tourism is a program of the city of Santa Fe that works with artists and arts businesses

to develop and promote workshops that allow visitors to experience Santa Fe’s unique culture in a

hands-on fashion. Partnerships and collaborations with the hospitality industry and other entities are

welcomed. The program was created as a result of the city of Santa Fe’s 2005 appointment to the

UNESCO Creative Cities Network and builds upon the successful 2008 International Conference on

Creative Tourism held in Santa Fe. www.santafecreativetourism.org
