GOVERNOR RALPH ZARADA SPEAKS:
The Mid Year Forum is in
the books, which means
that we are moving into
the month of February.
The weather lets us know
that it is still winter, but I
can feel the warmth of
spring approaching.
This month, I want to take a moment to talk about
LCIF, the 501(c)3 charitable arm of our association.
As a District we have contributed over $7,000 to
LCIF, which is about halfway to our goal of $15,000.
As LCIF continues to grow, it services the needs of
many by offering programs that restore sight and
prevent blindness, support our youth through
Quest, provide relief when disasters occur, and
meet humanitarian needs around the world. Some
of the funds that support these efforts come from
foundations, corporations, governments, and non-
Lions. But a majority of the funds come from the
generous donations of Lions Clubs and individual
members. If your club, or perhaps you as a Lion,
have not made a donation, please consider making
one. The dollar amount does not have to be large.
If you are working towards a Melvin Jones Fellow
(MJF), you can donate in affordable increments
until you have reached the amount needed to
reach the mark required for an MJF.
As we move towards our Centennial 2017
celebration, every club is encouraged to connect
with the community by completing a Legacy
Project. Legacy Projects are visible gifts that
commemorate our Centennial and address specific
needs in your community. Take this opportunity to
create a lasting legacy of your service contributions
and earn special Centennial recognition by
completing a Legacy Project. Make sure to report it
on the MyLCI Service Activity Report. For more
details regarding the Legacy project go to the LCI
website

In Service, -Lion DG Ralph Editorial:
SUPER BOWL SUNDAY!
Coming Sunday is February 7 – Super Bowl Sunday in the
US. All sports fans will glue their eyes to wide screen TV’s to watch super game between Carolina Panthers and Denver Broncos. It is 50th Super Bowl Sunday – a special day to remember in many of our lives.
Super Bowl Sunday, is that glorious day of the year in which excessive overeating and screaming at your TV are totally socially acceptable. This game marks a historic one for the NFL, as it will be the 50th time two teams have met to battle it out for the ultimate football championship.
Let us enjoy on coming Sunday and get the best of football and glorified super advertisements during the game; also not to forget half time gala.
Lions in District 1A will be waiting to celebrate their super days of current lionistic year at the beginning of April, 2016. April 1st to 3rd will be Convention Time in District 1A to celebrate Governor Ralph Zarada’s successes this year with 2 brand new clubs with 75 new members with the help of New Club Development Team under the leadership of PID Dan O’Reilly.
Governor Ralph’s theme for the convention is, “Cowboy Up Lions!” A theme and celebration to be remembered in the history of conventions in District 1A. All Lions in our District will
become cowboys and cowgirls to celebrate this extravaganza. Rumors are our Governor might come to the opening session or to the banquet on a horse! My camera is waiting with full enthusiasm to click pictures of this glorious moment to be remembered.
Convention Chair CC Steve Anton is trying his best to make this convention with his team to make one of the best conventions to Lions, Lionesses, Leos and guests of District 1A. After reading this, there is no time left to waste. Just fill out convention reservation forms and send them to PDG Harold Burkett with a check payable to “District 1A Lions.”

The V.O.I.C.E.S. Committee has now received the 4 cameras that we have purchased, finished our training and are already out and about the district talking about the need
for
testing pre-school children’s eyes. A couple of clubs have inquired about dates to hold the testing in their communities
and soon we will be able to tell you of the positive
changes that the Lions have made in those young lives.
It is easy to get started if you would like to host a screening. Just contact a member of the V.O.I.C.E.S. Committee and we will help you put the wheels in motion. There is no cost from V.O.I.C.E.S. to hold a screening. It is part of your commitment to service through the Charitable Arm of the district.
At the convention this April, V.O.I.C.E.S. will have 3 new director positions that need to be filled. It is a three (3) year term and requires that you hold no other district elected office. If you have served as a President of your club and would like to serve on this committee on its Board of Directors, please file a resolution with Cabinet Secretary Lion Brenda Block by March 1, 2016 to have your name placed on the ballot for election. If you need further information, feel free to contact me.

FROM
THE
SADDLE
There is big news about the District 1-
A Convention this month and the
committee can’t wait to tell you about
it. The Lions of the Willow Springs
Lions Club, will be hosting on Friday
Night April 1st, in Governor Ralphs’
“Long Branch Saloon”, a few games of
Lion Blackjack. You can try your luck
and perhaps win a prize. Even if you
don’t, right there in the same saloon,
you can take a ride on “Bob” the
bucking bull. Be sure to bring your
camera, as we are sure that the
pictures you take will be priceless.
Also returning this year, although in a
smaller size, will be a silent auction.
We are trying to upgrade the items for
auction and trying to make it as
interesting as possible. Stop by and
give it a look and make a bid. On
Saturday morning the Thornton Lions
will once again be hosting the “Bloody
Mary Toast” to those clubs celebrating
a major service anniversary. All
registered convention guests are
invited to partake in the toast as we
honor those clubs for their service to
their communities.
Registration is now open for the
convention and the registration form
can be found on the district website at
lions1a-us.org. There is no increase in
