Distance Learning Instructions Period 8 – A Cappella Choir
Week 1 – April 6-10th Google Drive Updates: I have created a folder for each student in my google drive and titled them “P8 – Your Name”. Your folder is only viewable and editable by you and Mrs. Shanker. You will be able to upload files to this folder or create new word or spreadsheet documents to turn in assignments.
- To find the folder, you must log in to the google drive with the same address you use to access the learning tracks. If you are not sure which address you need to use or you are having trouble, please contact Mrs. Shanker via Remind text or email.
- Once you are logged in, click “Shared with Me” to see files that other people have created and shared with you. You should see your class folder “A Cappella Choir 2019-20” and your new personal folder.
- Your new folder will have weekly folders to keep track of each week’s assignments. - If you are able, turn in all your assignments into this folder.
Composer Worksheet: This week you will learn about George Frederick Handel. He is the composer of the Hallelujah Chorus which we sing in every Winter Concert with the Mass Chorale.
- Fun and Random Coincidence: Fred and George Weasley from Harry Potter have the same first two names as Handel.
- Turn In: Answer the six questions of the crossword activity page and send the answers to Mrs. Shanker through one of these methods:
o Google Drive: o If the Google Drive folder isn’t working for you, type your six answers into an
email and send it to [email protected]. Make the subject of the email “P8 – Your Name – Week 1”
o If you do not have the ability to go online, turn in the worksheet page to the HHS Admin building when you pick up your week 2 packet. Write “P8 – Your Name – Week 1” at the top of the page.
Record and Send:
- Record yourself singing your part of the "Hallelujah Chorus" from the beginning to measure 41 on page 197. You stop singing after the word "Christ" at rehearsal letter D.
- There are learning tracks and a pdf of the sheet music in the google drive folder. - Wear headphones and listen to the ALL track while you sing. Use your full voice. If you
are embarrassed to sing out at home, I recommend going into a car by yourself in a garage. Double soundproof!
- Use a second device to record yourself. A voice memo app works best. You can record a video, but the file size is much bigger.
- Title the track (re-name it) with your first name and the first letter of your last name and the name of the song and which part you are singing. (KimS-Hallelujah-Alto)
- Let Mrs. Shanker know if this assignment is not possible for whatever reason. - Send the recording to [email protected]. Title the email: “P8 – Your Name –
Week 1”. (this can be a combined email of all your assignments.) - Or you can upload it to your new personal google drive folder as mentioned above.
Practice Log:
- The Practice Log should be filled out daily as you practice your choir music with the learning tracks in the google drive.
o You can print it and write by hand OR o You can fill in the spreadsheet form in your personal google folder online.
§ Instructions are written at the top of the log page. § Your total practice time per week is 30 minutes minimum. § Fill in the questions at the bottom of the page to reflect on the use of your time and
your progress. § Have your parent or guardian sign off on each week's rehearsal times at the end of
Friday. § If printed, take a picture or scan and send the week's log to [email protected].
Choose your group for a group project coming next week:
- You will have 5 people in your group. (There will be one group of 4.) - You may choose your own group. - You must have at least two people from the left column (3-4 year singers) in your group. - You must have 2-3 people from the right column (1-2 year singers) in your group.
