From the Pastor's Desk“Do you want to stand out? Then step down. Be a servant. If you put yourself up, you’ll get the wind knocked out of you. But if you’re content to simply be yourself, your life will count for plenty.” Matthew 23:11-12

This chapter of Matthew’s gospel is often referred to as the “Chapter of Determinations.” The words here are some of the strongest spoken by our Lord. Does it change His position of being and teaching, caring and compassion? Not at all. What it does is show His interest and concern toward what destroys the care and compassion in the lives of human beings. Jesus, in the same attitude and for the same purpose, had cleansed the Temple because of its misuse. He had shown righteous anger against those who caused others to stumble in their faith, and He is seen as understandably being grieved and angry because people who profess to walk in God’s law (the Pharisees and many people today) and take upon themselves a harsh and condemning outlook toward others which is an easy temptation of religious leaders. Jesus actually equates those who seek attention and authority as hypocrites. He has just admonished the people to follow the teachings of God when it courses through the Scribes and Pharisees; but don’t do what these same people are doing – they don’t practice what they teach. Jesus draws a picture of this kind of demeanor – it’s like tying upon others heavy burdens, hard to bear, placing them upon their shoulders and failing to lift a finger to move them.

We all want the best for others and to see the great potential spring out of their lives. But we can’t force it upon them. We can’t set ourselves up as the perfect example and tell others to copy us lest we fall flat on our faces before them.

We can plant seeds. We can indeed try to live lives that example what we know is God’s way for us. But the moment we say, “Look at me,” God may allow us an expensive lesson; it’s not “look at me,” but rather look at Jesus, whose greatness was established in His being “The Suffering

Servant” for man. Bro. Bobby

KIDS HOPE USA offers churches and schools a proven, award-winning model to meet the emotional, social and academic needs of children. KHUSA programs create one-on-one mentoring relationships between adult church members, willing to give a little time and a lot of love, and at-risk elementary schoolchildren in their community who desperately need loving, caring adults in their lives. Utilizing the existing structures of churches and elementary schools as the framework for these programs, KIDS HOPE USA creates successful, sustainable and life-changing church-school partnerships. In this One Child, One Hour, One Church, One School model, each participating church partners with a single school, and each KHUSA church-sponsored mentor spends one hour each week with their “one-and-only child” at the school.

Want to make a difference in the life of a child . . . a school . . . our community ? The Mayfield Road Baptist Church has been asked to begin this mentoring program at Atherton Elementary on Overbrook Drive. Mentors, Prayer Partners, Prayer Coordinator, Communications Coordinator, Celebration Coordinator, and Support Coordinator are a few of the volunteers needed. Training for mentors and other volunteers will be provided. If you would be willing to volunteer in this ministry, please contact Gaylia Castrillo, our Kids Hope USA Director, at 682.465.1231 or the Church Office at 817.465.6101.

Hello, MRBC Family! The summer is almost gone, and I am still wondering what happened to the spring! Things are going well as we prepare for our big move and let me just say that I really appreciate all the encouragement we have heard from many of you . Every Sunday someone stops me in the hall and asks how things are going and offers words of encouragement. I cannot tell you how much that means to me. You continue to be a wonderful example for us, and we are excited to share our new facility with you soon. I have provided some pictures to show you our progress. In the mean time please be praying for these specific areas:

• Godly wisdom for all the decisions still coming• Continued financial support• Grace with the city as we prepare for our certificate of occupancy inspection toward the end of July/early August• For the community in West Arlington, that God would use us to share Good News with them, news that we know will change their lives forever! Love you deeply!Ryan Christopher
