Prelaq Nova coating composition
The Cyclone roof drainage system is produced in one of Europe’s most up to date manufacturing facilities, enabling a consistently high quality to be maintained. The base material is steel sheet coated with Prelaq Nova which is extremely hard wearing.
Coated steel sheet is the ideal material for withstanding the wear and tear to which a rainwater system is subjected in the form of water, air, sunlight, leaves and dirt. The coating also maintains its sheen and colour, and protects against rust.
With these characteristics, the Cyclone system keeps its smart, fresh appearance for many years, requiring minimal maintenance. All you have to do is wash down with warm water and a light soapy detergent at least twice a year.
Safe and easy installationThe advantage of a complete system is that all the components are designed to fit together, making installation a quick and easy process, and ensuring that joints and connections are as watertight as possible. Our gutter brackets are designed to work safely while simplifying the job of installation. Once the brackets have been securely fixed, the gutter is placed in position and is secured in the bracket.
Durable, long lasting material
All components are made from galvanised high strength steel sheet and coated with Prelaq Nova from Swedish steel manufacturer SSAB – which is a coating of High Build Polyester (HBP). This means that they withstand wind, sunshine and corrosion, so we can offer a warranty covering discolouration and paint flaking for up to 15 years.
The Cyclone system needs no special maintenance except for cleaning of leaves and debris and washing down with warm soapy water at least twice a year.
Every item in the system is made from the same sheet material so that it will age at a similar rate ensuring the system looks as good as the day it was installed without any colour change.
Prelaq Nova coating
• Prelaq RWS has a coating with a total thickness of 35 microns on each side
• The top coat contains polymer grains that make the surface durable
• The thickness has been optimised for wear and weather resistance
• The coating has excellent gloss retention and colour fastness enabling good protection against corrosion
• The coating has excellent flexibility and the steel sheet can be formed into various products without damage to the coating.
After-treatment
If the coating has been damaged, paint it with Cyclone’s repair paint to prolong the lifespan of the rainwater system. Use a small brush to apply paint, see accessories on page 14.

Cost-effective solutionCyclone is competitively priced with quality leading plastic systems and more cost-effective when compared with aluminium rainwater systems.
Coating and colour choiceCyclone is available in a choice of four standard colours from stock; black, dark grey, silver metallic, and white. A further six colours are available and will be considered on a special order basis. The Cyclone coating finish is UV resistant and will not fade or crack over its guaranteed life.
High performing materialSteel is an extremely versatile material and an ideal choice for rainwater downpipe and gutter systems. It is lightweight making the product easier to handle and install, and being metal has minimal thermal movement compared with plastic systems which can twist and crack due to temperature changes.
Steel rainwater systems are the material of choice in Scandinavian markets which perform under extreme temperature conditions.
Simple installationCyclone gutter and fittings are connected using simple jointing clips that click into place. Cyclone also uniquely offers small aluminium rods (150mm long) that provide additional strength and support, particularly for gutter angles (see page 17).
Downpipes and fittings simply connect through spigot ends, which are supported by brackets that wrap round the pipe and wall mount.
Cyclone can be installed using basic assembly tools (i.e. hacksaw, screwdriver, rubber hammer and file). Basic power tools like a drill, can further speed up the installation.
Low maintenanceCyclone is considered to be a low maintenance product. General good practice for all guttering is to inspect the system on a regular basis to ensure the gutter system is kept free from debris that could cause a blockage, or reduce the effectiveness of the water flow. Saint-Gobain PAM recommends the system is
washed down with warm soapy water at least twice a year.
In areas with large trees the cleaning frequency may need to be increased.
The right aestheticsA Cyclone system complements any domestic or commercial building, large or small, traditional or modern. Cyclone is the ideal rainwater solution for the discerning self builder, from timber framed houses to commercial buildings like supermarkets, industrial units and warehouses. The Social Housing sector in particular could benefit significantly from using steel over plastic systems – with its superior longevity at a competitive rate.

House length up to 10m = 1 downpipe
Choosing the right dimensions
The Cyclone roof drainage system offers three different sizes of gutter: 100, 125 and 150mm. Downpipes are available in the following sizes: 75, 87 and 100mm diameter.
It is important that the sizes of any roof rainwater system reflect the size of the roof and number of downpipes, since these factors determine the amount of water that will have to be conducted away. The tables below show which sizes are best for various roof areas.
In order to determine the dimensions of your roof rainwater system, you must first find out the area of your roof. Measure the length and width of the roof and multiply these figures to get the area. If you have a hipped roof or a cross gable roof, add up all the roof areas to obtain the figure for the total roof area which the gutters and downpipes will be serving. Once you have your roof area, use the table below to identify the gutter and downpipe sizes you need.
a double slope is formed, i.e. you make a high point between two downpipes (total length 20m) and make the gutter gradient from the high point down towards each of the downpipes.

Storage & unpacking
Make sure that the Cyclone components are handled with care during storage and unpacking. If not, the coating may be damaged or the pipes and gutters dented. Store pipes and gutters on a plain and stable surface.
Guide to installation
Adjustable bracket fits a fascia board with an angle of 0–38°.
Use rafter brackets when fixing to roof. (Bend to suit roof pitch.)
Use compact fascia bracket or adjustable bracket on a vertical fascia board.

Fastening
The fasteners you will require are used for securing the gutters and downpipe brackets. We recommend the use of our colour matched screws fixings as they provide good corrosive resistance (see page 14).
Cutting
Cut the gutters and pipes with tin snips or a hacksaw on a firm platform. Never use an angle grinder, it heats the steel up and destroys the galvanisation. The coating may also be scorched by hot chips or filings.
Tools
Cyclone’s rainwater system can be installed with ordinary hand tools like pliers, hammer, hacksaw, screwdriver, tape measure and string. For bending brackets, you need a bracket bender.
• Spirit level
• Tape measure
• Pencil
• Screwdriver
• Tin snips
• Hacksaw
• Bracket bender
• Rubber hammer

Gutter and angle installations
Place the gutters into the brackets and secure.
When joining sections of gutter, first hook the back edge of the joint piece round the gutters.
Insert 150mm long support rod into the rolled edge of the gutter or angle.
We recommend the use of 150mm rods in addition to gutter jointers for extra support.
Join the gutters once installed into the brackets.
Then place the front clip over the edge of the gutters. After this, press the clip down.
Push both components together.
If using rafter or adjustable brackets you will need to bend over the securing plate on the front of the bracket.
Lock it in place with the small clip.
Add jointing clip.

Mark the gutter at the point where the downpipe is to be located.
Place the gutter outlet over the hole ensuring that the lipped edge clips into the rolled edge of the gutter.
Make two diagonal cuts with a hacksaw to create an aperture of approx. 100mm.
Press the gutter outlet against the gutter and fix it in place, bending over the securing lugs.
If you are experienced in sheet-metal work, you can use tin snips instead.
Fitting gutter outlet to gutter – hole cutting method 1
With a hole cutter, drill an aperture of at least 100mm diameter.
Remove sharp edges with a file. Bend edges of hole down to form a rain lip.

Fitting gutter outlets and gutter ends
Fit the gutter end by twisting it into the rolled edge of the gutter, and apply a bead of metal sealant.
Press the gutter end down into the gutter and tap it into place.
Universal gutter end. The metal edge that is not required may be snapped off at the existing notch. Smooth out the sealant.

Start by measuring the overhang length (OH). The tables show the lengths of intermediate pipe necessary, 70° bends and various overhang sizes. You may be able to cut off a section of downpipe to use as an intermediate pipe.
Fix a pipe bracket to the wall immediately below the bend. Fix the next pipe bracket directly below the first, and so on. Max. 1.5m between each pipe bracket.
OH = Overhang length
H = Distance from bottom edge of gutter to end of bend
IP = Length of intermediate pipe
Fit the entire downpipe assembly. Press the pipe bracket together and tap the wedges into place using a block of wood or rubber hammer.
Assemble the components.
Pipe brackets for wood can also be used for stone, but need to be secured using plugs and screws.
