5/6 CANBERRA EXCURSION
Thank you to all the parents and community friends who have
supported our excursion to Canberra with Yeoval Central School
and St Columbas. We have appreciated the efforts to organise this
event by Mrs Blatch and look forward to sharing our many exciting
experiences with you all. In my absence, the school will be in the
capable hands of Mr West and our understanding and supportive
teaching and administrative staff. If you have any issues or
concerns, please address these to Mr West or make an
appointment to see me on the Friday when we return. Yesterday
we took to the ski slopes at Smiggins Holes and on Monday we
visited the Australian War Memorial. We have an action-packed
schedule so please be prepared for some great anecdotes and
lots of chatter when we arrive home!
MARCO GLIORI POETRY WORKSHOP
Marco Gliori is one of Australia's most highly regarded Poets and
Story Tellers. A unique spoken word artist and multi-award winning
Poet, Mr Gliori writes and performs his original verse, anecdotes,
and stand-up comedy routines, engaging and inspiring audiences
across Australia. His authentic working class background, his sense
of community and empathy for the characters that inspire him,
complimented by a wicked and sometimes warped sense of
humour, allow him to create an atmosphere of mateship accompanied by a big slice of respect
for those who have gone before us. The students in 4/5/6 were excited that Mr Gliori visited our
classroom to work on their writing and poetry skills. We hope to present some poems at our
Assembly later in the term.

NAPLAN ONLINE
Federal, state and territory education ministers have agreed that NAPLAN will move online over a
two-three year period. This means moving NAPLAN from the current paper-based tests to
computer-based assessments. NAPLAN Online will provide better assessment, more precise results
and faster turnaround of information. The assessments can run through a real-time internet
connection or onscreen without an internet connection. This term, we will be completing the
online assessment on Tuesday 28th August under the leadership of Mr Anikin. If you have any
concerns or issues in relation to these tests, please make an appointment to see Mrs Schulz.
BOOKS 4 OUTBACK
Neil and Ross from Books 4 Outback in Newcastle presented our students with books which have
been donated and distributed to schools across the state. Mrs McFarland kindly organised this
donation on behalf of our students. Books will be distributed in the next few weeks.
